School board turns away prayer issue

Police: Couple’s home had ‘inhumane’ conditions
PICKENS — A Pickens couple faces multiple charges after police and DSS workers allegedly found two small children and a bedridden adult living in “inhumane” conditions.
According to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Creed Hashe, Jeremy Ray Holder and Erin Nicole Holder, both 23, of Massingill Memorial Drive, were each charged with two counts

Pickens Elementary School students recently raised $146.80 to give to the Pickens County Humane Society. Humane society director Samantha Gamble visited the school and brought a 4-month-old puppy named Molly to play with the children as thanks. Gamble talked to the Pickens Elementary Cabin Character students about the services the humane society provides for animals and how the humane society finds the animals permanent homes.

Easter events planned around Pickens County

COUNTY — With Easter just around the corner, Pickens County churches and organizations have planned activities to commemorate the season.

COLUMBIA — Berkshire-Pickens Wrestling Club opened its 2015 USAW competitive season traveling to Lower Richland High School, where nine members placed in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions.

EASLEY — A surgical team from Baptist Easley Hospital joined the annual mission trip to the Clinica Christiana in San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg through Solid Rock International last month.

EASLEY — The Easley High School varsity softball team added five wins to its record last week. The Lady Green Wave had a six-game win streak snapped during the Byrnes Lady Rebel Invitational by eventual tournament champion Union County.
Easley defeated rival Wren 3-1 in a non-region game and then added Region I-AAAA victories over T.L. Hanna (11-1) and Westside (15-5). After taking Thursday off, Easley defeated Landrum 7-1 in the opening round of the Byrnes tournament Friday, and followed that with an 8-3 victory over Riverside. On Saturday, Easley lost to Union County 10-1 to finish second in its six-team bracket. Playing for the Gold Division title, Easley lost to Dorman 11-3 and then dropped a 3-2

Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, beginning in April 11 will begin to host Missions Market (yard sale) in our parking lot. Missions Market will be open the second Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. The church will have table rentals for $8 each. Refreshments will be available. Cancelled if raining. Six Mile Farmer’s Market set to open season April 9
SIX MILE — The third annual Six Mile Farmer’s Market will be opening April 9 at the Six Mile Farmer’s Depot on Main Street and will be open every Thursday from 4-7 p.m. until further notice.
Farmers and gardeners from Six Mile and neighboring towns will be offering a variety of home-grown and home-made products. The opening day market and the first Thursday of each month will host a special event to include entertainment and a special meal.
County to kick off abuse prevention month
COUNTY — Pickens County will kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Year of the Child with an event Monday, March 30, at the Marathon Church youth building in Pickens.
Wanda Meade will be the guest speaker at the kickoff of Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Year of the Child, planned for Monday, March 30, at the Marathon Church youth building in Pickens.
Community members are invited to enjoy lunch and learn how to become a partner to prevent child abuse in Pickens County. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Senator Larry Martin will present a Senate Resolution that commends the community agencies that deal with child abuse.
Wanda Meade, founder and creator of Finding Voice, will be the guest speaker and will be exhibiting her photography art recounting the experiences of abuse survivors.
