Clemson receives grant to research crops for energy use

CLEMSON — A new public-private partnership led by Clemson University and a worldwide biomass and bioenergy producer will research the use of crops that can both open new markets for South Carolina landowners and support the growing global demand for renewable energy.

Six Mile — Richard K. “Rick” Nimmons, 60, of 5210 Six Mile Highway, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late Clarence and Ruby Bryant Nimmons. He was a graduate of D.W. Daniel High School and Tri-County Tech. He was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan and loved his Daniel High School athletics, but more especially he loved spending time with his nieces and nephew. He was of the Baptist faith.
Rick was loved by all who knew him. Many knew him as “Big Rick” when they came into the Six Mile Cafe and were greeted by his smiling face, always ready to talk football. Rick loved kids and always had candy waiting on them when their parents came to the checkout at the register.
Others remember Rick from his dedication to his D.W. Daniel Lions, cheering them on at all their games.

COUNTY — On the anniversary of D-Day on Saturday, Pickens County paid tribute to its four Medal of Honor recipients and honored their families.
County officials designated June 6 as Congressional Medal of Honor Dedication Day, and a handful of celebrations marked the occasion.

Man arrested in wreck that injured deputy

EASLEY — A Pickens County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized and a North Carolina man charged with DUI after an early-morning wreck Monday near Easley, state troopers said.
