Six Mile honors Wade

Golf tourney planned to benefit Humane Society

PICKENS — An upcoming golf tournament will aid those who help our four-legged friends.

The Pickens County Humane Society’s fourth annual golf tournament is slated for Aug. 5 at the Pickens County Country Club.

Pree Hamilton, who serves on the humane society’s board of directors, recently spoke to county council members about the tournament.

“We mainly operate on funding through donations and fundraisers,” Hamilton said.

A-bowling we will go

Bowling was never my strong suit. And it would be a complete waste of time to claim prowess at the game, because it would be a complete misrepresentation of the facts.

Nevertheless, a-bowling I did go. Last week was spent in Fayetteville, Ark., with my niece and her dear family. The visit was of a 10-day duration, and once again the experience was wonderful.

Avoiding falls at home

When a senior falls, it can be the first step in physical decline. A hospital stay or time in rehab might be required, which can result in overall weakness and fear of a second fall. That fear can lead to cautious movement, which leads to more physical weakness.

Handleys celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Bill and Jane Handley of Dacusville celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on July 12. Married in Sylacauga, Ala., in 1957, they soon moved to Pensacola, Fla., had three children, and then the family relocated to Greenville in 1966. Their children are Liz and Tim McKinney, Becky Stovall, and Bill and Teresa Handley. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved ones include Bryan McKinney, Erika Handley, Megan Handley, Walter Stovall, Marcia Bradley and Hailey, Ashley, Lilie, Bryson, Payton and Ellie Mae. Bill and Jane are members of the Dacusville Lions Club and Nine Forks Baptist Church.
