County OKs $32M bond for jail, debt

PICKENS — Pickens County Council approved $32 million in general obligation bonds last week to fund a new jail and refinance existing debt.
Council passed Ordinance No. 540 on third reading at its regular meeting the night of Sept. 11 in a 5-1 vote. Chairman Roy Costner noted council amended the ordinance to reflect an increase from $25 million to $32

Easley renames street for beloved late businessman

EASLEY — Emotions ran high Monday night as Easley City Council honored a beloved resident who passed away last month.
Council voted unanimously to change the name of People’s Way to Joe Lesley Way, in honor of the longtime owner of Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor.
Lesley passed away on Aug. 12 following a bout with cancer.

Crosswell Fire Station named to honor Duncan

EASLEY — The fire station in the Crosswell community will soon bear a new name, in honor of a man who dedicated his life to service.
Pickens County Council unanimously approved renaming the station after the late Alvin Lee Duncan.
The station will now be known as the “Alvin Lee Duncan Firehouse.”
