Expect more tax increases

Dear Editor,

I examined the five-year capital budget recently passed by the Pickens County School Board in a 6-0 vote. The school district uses the capital budget to replace things like roofs, HVAC systems, renovate buildings and pay for repaving and repainting schedules.

In early 2016, the district administration and school board majority

Trial run: Living on Social Security

If you’ve reached the age where you can collect Social Security and keep working without any reduction in your benefits, at some point you’re going to wonder: When is it safe to retire? Before you let go of that paycheck, do a trial run.

CLEMSON — Clemson’s slow start to the second half on Saturday allowed Florida State to get within three points in the fourth quarter.

But the No. 4 Tigers came up with enough big plays late to defeat the Seminoles 31-14 and secure a third straight ACC Atlantic Division title.

Clemson (9-1, 7-1 ACC) led 17-7 after three quarters, but Florida State (3-6, 3-5) scored on a 90-yard drive to end the third and a 60-yard touchdown early in the fourth to get within three points at 17-14.

It was a season filled with mixed reviews. The Red Devils finished 5-6 on the campaign. Early-season success was followed by a late swoon, as the Red Devils were winless in region play and lost to Blacksburg in the first round of

Injuries derail Wave’s promising campaign

By Eugene Jolley

EASLEY — If a coach could know how many injuries the team would have during a season, he could surmise what type of season may play out.

For Easley coach John Windham, his Green Wave was hit hard by the injury bug for the 2017 season, especially at quarterback and along the offensive line.

Still, despite the injuries, the Green Wave finished third in Region I-5A again with a 2-2 record and finished with a 5-6 overall record for a
