CONETHEL HUDSON

SUNSET — Conethel Watson Hudson, 81, passed from this life on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019.

Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter Lee “Cooter” Hudson Sr.

She was born on Aug. 28, 1937, in Pickens County, to the late Clemmie and Allie Owens Watson. Mrs. Hudson was a member of Crowe Creek Church of God in Six Mile, where she was the last surviving charter member. She served as the church secretary for over 50 years and the church clerk for over 40 years.

Mrs. Hudson was retired from the School District of Pickens County after 34 years of service. She was the lunchroom manager at A. R. Lewis Elementary School for her entire career. She loved feeding “her” kids and over the years saw many of them, and it always brightened her day when they shared fond memories of her as the lunchroom lady.

Survivors include a son, Lee Hudson, and a daughter, Lisa Hudson, both of Sunset; daughter-in-law, Jackie Hudson of Easley; two grandchildren, Amanda Hudson (Doug Fowler) and Matthew Hudson, both of Easley; brother, Wilton “Bill” Watson of Pickens; and two sisters, Dallie Lunsford of Greenwood and Marretta “Deddie” Smith of Salem. She is also survived by the apple of her eye, her great-granddaughter McKenna Fowler of Easley. She also has a special “adopted” daughter and her family, Diane, David and Hunter Green. Diane was the neighbor’s daughter but was over at Conethel’s house more than her own sometimes.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hudson was predeceased by three sisters, Ethel Adams (her twin), Margaret Watson and Vernell Watson, and a brother, Buddy Watson.

Rev. Raymond Whitman and Rev. Roland Bearden spoke at the funeral service. Pallbearers were Matthew Hudson, Doug Fowler, Brian Bearden, David Green, Ron Monday, Jamie Smith, Josh Hale, Heath Hale and Bobby Adams Jr.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers at AnMed Cannon Hospital in Pickens. They were so kind and helpful throughout Conethel’s last days. Also, a special thanks to nurse practitioner Glenda Snyder, who went above and beyond for Conethel and her family and also thanks to Hospice of the Upstate.

The family would also like to thank Dillard Funeral Home and Hillcrest Memorial Park. They have always been so kind to the Hudson family throughout their funeral planning.

Flowers will be accepted, but memorials may be made to Crow Creek Church of God Building Fund, 128 Crowe Creek Church Road, Six Mile, SC 29682.

Funeral services were conducted on Jan. 21 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

A meal will be served at the Crowe Creek Church of God Fellowship Building, 128 Crowe Creek Road, Six Mile, SC 29682 following the graveside service.

TROY EUGENE PACE

EASLEY — Troy Eugene Pace, born May 11, 1939, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.

Troy Eugene Pace was born in Pickens County to Bolt Hampton Pace and Ruby Holcombe Pace. He attended Pickens Mill Elementary School and Pickens High School and graduated from Greenville Tech with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He served 9 years in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic.

Most of his time in the military was spent aboard the USS Midway and the USS Shangri La.

In addition to his military service, Mr. Pace worked for LTV in Greenville and later for Michelin Tire in multiple capacities over the years, beginning as a security guard and completing his time with Michelin as a test driver.

Mr. Pace was married to the former Nancy Lousie Stewart on April 7, 1977. They had no children. Mr. Pace is survived by one brother, James C. Pace and his wife, Helen Jean (Abercrombie) Pace, and numerous nieces.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Thurmond Alvin (Tom) Pace, and Johnnie Mac Pace, and two sisters, Monzelle Pace Poulter of Pennsylvania and Willie Mae Pace Pendergraft of Florida

He was of the Methodist faith, a member of American Legion Post 52 of Easley, and Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 36, which commemorates the 16th South Carolina Volunteers with which his ancestor served.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 19 at Hope Presbyterian Church.

It was Mr. Pace’s request that he be buried at sea, but his Federal memorial marker will be placed in the family plot at Sunrise Cemetery in Pickens.

BRAD SATTERFIELD

EASLEY — Mr. Brad Nathaniel Satterfield passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a son of Annie Bell “Patsy” Fricks Satterfield of Easley and the late Clyde Nathaniel Satterfield, Mr. Satterfield was employed with Mitchell Contract Interiors and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a son, Nathaniel Satterfield of the home; and two sisters, Lesa S. Jones and her husband, Rev. O.K. Jones of Liberty, and Jane S. Free of Easley.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 18 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. O.K. Jones and Rev. Hayden Crompton officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

JANICE NALLEY GASSAWAY

EASLEY — Mrs. Janice Melonee Nalley Gassaway, 77, wife of the late James Edward Gassaway, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Hubert and Freddie Mae Brown Nalley, Mrs. Gassaway was retired from Easley Family Practice and was a member of Easley First Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Melanie Hope Gassaway of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Wayne Nalley, Bobby Nalley and Chupene Nalley, all of Easley; and two sisters, Ruth Lee Simmons and Frances Vaughn, both of Easley.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gassaway was predeceased by a brother, Gale Nalley; and two sisters, Barbara Childs and Carol Nalley.

A celebration of her life was held on Jan. 21, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

DEBRA DUNCAN

PICKENS — Debra Dianne Stancil Duncan, 63, of 108 Few Drive, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Cateechee, she was a daughter of the late Melvin E. and Florine Owen Stancil. She was retired from St. Jude Medical and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith.

Surviving are a daughter, April Niemela of Pickens; two sons, Dana Stancil of Belton and Shawn Duncan (Emily) of Pickens; a sister, Ruby Dyar of Cateechee; four brothers, Kenneth Stancil of Seneca, Charles Stancil of Cateechee, Joey Stancil of Pickens and Sam Stancil of Liberty; and three grandchildren, Nikki Niemela, Westin Duncan and Savannah Duncan.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Vivian Stewart and Norma Reed; and two brothers, Richard Stancil and Paul Daniel Stancil.

Funeral services for Ms. Duncan were held on Jan. 18 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

JEMIMA ECHERD

CENTRAL — Mrs. Jemima Echerd, 100, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, in Pickens.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late William Cantrell and Ada Edens Cantrell and wife of the late Ray “RJ” Jones Echerd Jr.

Mrs. Echerd was a school teacher and a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Bailey (Ernest) of Central; two step-grandchildren, Betty Jo and Amanda. She also leaves three step-great-grandchildren, Dalton, Scarlet and Richie, to share in her memory.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Ray Jones Echerd III; two brothers, Bolt Cantrell and Ralph Cantrell; and four sisters, Adola Rutledge, Beatrice Stewart, Jessie Cantrell and Edna Mitchell.

GLADYS K. JAMISON

EASLEY — Gladys King Jamison, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ellis M. Jamison, and is survived by her son and daughter, Marion Jamison and Gayla Jamison, and a son-in-law, Bernardo Gomez.

Gladys was born in Anderson, the daughter of Edward C. and Etta Giles King. She studied business at Anderson College. During World War II, she met her future husband, whom she called “Eli,” while he was stationed in Anderson. After the war, the couple and their two young children moved to Easley, where Gladys became a volunteer at East End School and was active in the Easley Presbyterian Church as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the women’s circle. She was a devoted mother, witty conversationist, good neighbor and an avid gardener.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 21 at The Foothills Presbyterian Retirement Community. A reception was held immediately following the service.

JAMES W. ALEXANDER

EASLEY — James William Alexander, 76, of Easley and formerly of Pickens, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019.

Born in Honea Path, he was the son of the late Otis Alexander and Lillie Mae Cantrell Emery. He was the owner of Alexander Upholstery and also Littlejohn Upholstery and was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church.

James loved to watch baseball, fish, play golf and also used to referee boxing matches in West Greenville. Most of all, he loved his family, and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his two daughters, Teresa Edgar (Marty) and Wanda Adams (Danny); his fiancée, Sue Caldwell; three sisters, Easter Jacobs, Helen Horne and Marie Greene; one brother, Odell Alexander; five grandchildren, Andrea (Scott), Erica (Brett), Megan (Chris), Trey and Liza Adams; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Shelby Barnette Alexander; his brothers, Charles and Jack Alexander; and a granddaughter, Taylor.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 19 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. Entombment followed in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum – Robinson Memorial Gardens.

FRED “TIP” GRANGER

EASLEY — Fred Clifton “Tip” Granger, 85, of 201 Ridge Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late Doyle and Ida Stancil Granger. He was retired from McCall’s Used Cars and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Hester Granger; two daughters, Nancy Belcher (Carlos) and Phyllis Moore (Wayne), all of Easley; four sons, Tommy Granger (Charlene) and Billy Granger (Ann), all of Easley, and Wayne Granger (Tammy) and Kenneth Granger (Karen), all of Liberty; also surviving is a granddaughter raised in the home, Leann Granger Camp of Easley; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Granger were conducted on Jan. 21 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial occurred at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

ROGER DOUGLAS LOWE

EASLEY — Mr. Roger Douglas Lowe, 80, husband of Maryetta Ralph Lowe, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019.

Born in Rochester, N.Y., a son of the late Willard and Eleanor Kerber Lowe, Mr. Lowe was a graduate of Columbia University, where he earned his master’s degree in special education, and was a retired group home administrator. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 50 years, are two daughters, Jennifer Josephine Terkelsen (David) of Pembroke, Mass., and Shana Eleanor Lowe (Christopher Cusack) of Greenville; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Olivia, Phineas and John; one brother and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

JOSEPH WILTON BANDY

EASLEY — Joseph Wilton Bandy, beloved husband and father, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019.

He was born in Woodbine, Ga., on Nov. 9, 1942, to the late Mr. and Mrs. (Irene McCall) Wilton Claude Bandy. He was a graduate of McCormick High School and Clemson University. He was predeceased by his brother, John Harvey Bandy; his sister, Harriett Elizabeth Bandy; and twin sons, Timothy Scott and Christopher Michael Bandy.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Corley Bandy; his sons, Joseph Christian Bandy (Maggie) and Michael Brandon Bandy (Carin); and daughter, Angela-Leigh Elizabeth Bandy (David). He is also survived by his six grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Corley and Arielle Marlow, JT and Carter Bandy, Bryce Laboon and Braxton Bandy. Joe is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bandy (Jay), and brothers-in-law, Dr. David Corley (Fran) and Edwin Corley (Annie Laura); plus nieces and nephews.

Joe retired from Albany International, where he had been a sales engineer, and even though his work took him away from home, he would always make the effort to be at home for any event that involved his children.

He was a true Clemson fan and had received a football scholarship to play for the Tigers upon high school graduation. Although he was plagued with kidney disease and unable to play the game, his heart was forever for the Clemson Tigers. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing and fishing with dear friends and held fond memories of golfing trips along South Carolina’s coast, and trips out west where he trout fished. He treasured hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and riding the rapids of the Colorado River. One of his favorite spots was North Litchfield Beach, where he enjoyed being with his family. His Heavenly father blessed him with a loving brother who unselfishly donated one of his kidneys so that Joe could experience all these good times, and he was so grateful.

Joe was an active member of Easley First United Methodist Church and cherished the fellowship of our pastors (present and past) and all our church members of the Path Finders Sunday School Class for members 25 to 35 years of age.

After a long and hard fight, he graciously passed away and will rejoice in heaven with our Heavenly Father and loved ones who preceded him.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Easley First United Methodist Church.

Receiving of friends will be in the church activity center immediately after the memorial service.

TERRY WOODRUFF NABORS

EASLEY — Terry Woodruff Nabors, 62, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, in Easley.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Perry Woodruff Nabors and Annie Murphy Nabors and the husband of Debbie Nabors.

Terry was a member of Lenhardt Christian Fellowship and was an avid music lover, which showed through his guitar playing.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of 40 years; one son, Kyle Nabors (Kasey) of Easley; two daughters, Michelle Moore (Shaun) and Heather Nabors (Terry), both of Anderson; two brothers, Donnie Nabors (Mary Ann) of Easley and Clifford Nabors (Sandra) of Liberty; and two sisters, Francis Cain (Donnie) of Easley and Nancy Galloway of Anderson. Terry also leaves seven grandchildren, Kylie Nabors, Gabriel Moore, Chasity, Jasmine, Garrett, Jesse and Raelyn to share in his memory.

In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by a grandchild, Jordan.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 20 in the funeral home chapel.

LILLIAN COOK STEWART

SIX MILE — Lillian Cook Stewart, 104, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Heartland Health Care, Greenville.

She was married to the late J. Furman Stewart for 65 years and was the daughter of the late Claud L. and Minnie G. Cook. She loved working in her yard, cooking delicious meals and spending time with her family and friends.

Her survivors include two daughters, Nancy S. Pitts (Jim) and Doris S. Guerreri (Bob); grandchildren, Jonathan M. Pitts (Jackie), Amy C. Guerreri and Kelley E. Pitts (granddaughter-in-law); great-grandchildren, Will Pitts, Jon Walker Pitts, Colton Pitts and Lilli Pitts; and a brother, Claude L. Cook Jr.

She was predeceased by her grandson, J. Stewart Pitts; her dear twin sister, Mildred Peterson; sisters, Lucille Garrett, Kathleen Stewart and Irene Cook; and brothers, Roy Cook, Leland Cook, Houston Cook, Wallace Cook and John Marion Cook.

The funeral service was held on Jan. 21 at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home chapel in Pickens. Her pastor, Rev. Tim Friar, officiated. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Her son-in-law, Dr. James M. Pitts, officiated at the graveside.

MIRIAM C. HARRIS

MARIETTA — Mrs. Miriam Craig Harris, 69, wife of Ronald Bruce “Ronnie” Harris, passed away on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late John Ross Craig and the late Eula Stephens Craig, Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Pickens High School and was retired from Michelin with 25 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a brother, John Stanley Craig (Sandra) of Easley; a sister, Joan Craig Waters of Easley; and a grandchild, Savannah Harris.

Graveside services were held on Jan. 21 at the Gap Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

EUNICE PILGRIM

SIX MILE — Eunice Evelyn Young Pilgrim, 87, of 168 Old Blacksmith Road, died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Manna Health and Rehab in Pickens.

Born in Six Mile, she was the widow of Wade Hampton Pilgrim and a daughter of the late Jay Austin and Pauline Farmer Young. She was retired from JP Stevens and loved cooking and gardening.

Surviving are a son, Garland Pilgrim (Betty) of Six Mile; a granddaughter, Trish Ingle (Keith) of Six Mile; two grandchildren, Matthew and Emma Ingle; two sisters, Carolyn Wade of Six Mile and Varina Turner of Liberty; and three brothers, Joe Dean, Coy and Gary Young, all of Six Mile.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Pilgrim; two sisters, Martha Bagwell Childers and Jean Young Reeves; and three brothers, Jay “Bud”, Tommy and Weldon Young.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Pilgrim were conducted on Jan. 21 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Private burial was held at the Camp Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

WALLACE WAYNE GILSTRAP

EASLEY — Wayne Gilstrap, 71, husband of Jeannie Tinsley Gilstrap, passed from this life on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at his home.

Wayne was born in Pickens County, a son of the late William Wallace and Agnes S. Gilstrap. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie, of the home; children, Jacquelyn Elyse Rice, Daena O. Hough, Heather O. Garry, Phillip C. Ott, Cristi G. Rice and Patty Gilstrap Knight; and grandchildren, Meagan Beauvais, Finn Garry, Shana Proffitt, Daniel Chappell, Jessica Paxton, Elijah Knight, Hunter Knight, Brayden Proffitt, Brantley Paxton, Blade and Blake Paxton.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 21 at Mountain View Funeral Home.
