Clemson police were involved in a pursuit shortly after midnight on March 13, as a vehicle was measured traveling at 74 mph in a 45 mph zone on U.S. Highway 76.

The driver of the vehicle pulled over and appeared to be cooperating when officers initiated a traffic stop before speeding away in an attempt to flee, police said. The driver continued on Highway 76 before colliding with other vehicles near S.C. Highway 187.

Multiple people were transported to the hospital following the accident, including the driver of the fleeing vehicle.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver had struck another vehicle before the initial traffic stop attempt by officers and had fled the scene of that collision as well.
