• Special events set for local libraries

The Pickens County Library System locations in Pickens and Liberty are planning events.

On Feb. 2 from 10 a.m.-noon, the Sarlin Library in Liberty will host “Fun With Chemistry,” presented by the Chemistry Club at Clemson University.

On Fridays starting at 3:30 p.m. in Pickens, the library will host A.T.L.A.S. (At The Library After School).

A kindergarten readiness program will be held every Saturday at 12:30 p.m., “Doing the Basics,” made possible by Palmetto Basics, The Friends of the Library, and Domino’s at both Liberty and Pickens locations.

• Pickens Lions Club invites locals to meet

The Pickens Lions Club has been serving the greater Pickens community since 1933. While its membership numbers have flexed over the years, one constant has remained — the club’s desire to help friends and neighbors in need.

The club is beginning a dynamic upswing in membership and is looking for movers and shakers with fresh ideas who want to make a difference in the community. The Pickens Lions meet the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7 p.m. at Pizza Inn in Pickens. • St. Andrew UMC to host huge yard sale

The 17th annual church-wide yard sale will be held at St. Andrew UMC, 309 Pelzer Highway, Easley, SC 29642 on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

The indoor event will offer a huge assortment of items for sale. There will also be food choices such as a biscuit breakfast, hot dog plate lunch and a bake sale.

The church is located on S.C. Highway 8 across from West End Elementary School.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to support mission projects.

• Spaghetti dinner set at Pickens church

The Pickens Church of God will hold a spaghetti fundraiser and silent auction at 6 p.m. Feb. 9.

The dinner will include spaghetti, garlic bread, dessert and drink.

Proceeds will go toward the church’s West Virginia mission trip and to local missions/outreach.

Pickens Church of God is located at 127 McDaniel Ave. in Pickens.

• BROS orcid show planned at WOE

The 10th annual Blue Ridge Orchid Society (BROS) Show at the World of Energy in Seneca will be Feb. 21-23.

The free orchid show will feature beautiful, unusual orchids of all shapes, sizes and varieties. Internationally known orchid grower and hybridizer Mark Reinke of Marble Branch Farms will have orchids on display and for sale. BROS members will be available to answer questions. Show hours are Feb. 21-22, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Feb. 23, noon-4 p.m. Super Tuesday will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Those in attendance will be able to join Reinke for “No greenhouse, no problem! Growing orchids in your home” and learn best practices for windowsill orchids and LED lighting for orchids in the home. The program will be free and open to the public, and light refreshments served after the presentation. Visit duke-energy.com/worldofenergy to learn more.

• Sertoma Club invites locals to meet

The Clemson Sertoma Club invites all interested local residents to attend its meetings.

The club meets at noon the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Occasions at Wedgefield, located at 1551 Eighteen Mile Road in Central.

New visitors are always welcome.

• Legion Post 67 seeks members

American Legion Post 67 in Liberty is accepting applications for membership from all U.S. military wartime veterans.
