• Pickens Concert Choir to perform

The Pickens Concert Choir will perform this Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Holly Springs Center at 120-B Holly Springs School Road in Pickens, just off U.S. Highway 178 north of Pickens. The concert will include classic jazz and rock selections, as well as a few surprises. Tickets are $10 at the door.

• First responders prayer rally planned

On Thursday, Aug. 2, Cafe Connections will be hosting its third annual First Responders Public Prayer Rally and Appreciation day.

The public is invited to come and be a part of the event. Cafe Connections will feed all the first responders breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and the public prayer rally will begin at 8:30 a.m.

• Legion Post 67 seeks members

American Legion Post 67 in Liberty is accepting applications for membership from all U.S. military wartime veterans.

• Reeves concert set for Hagood Center

The Hagood Community Center is planning an evening concert Saturday with Earl Reeves and the Girls — his wife, Margie, and daughter, Pam. Reeves has helped in many benefit concerts in the Pickens area over past years. He has sung in nursing centers, senior centers and numerous clubs in Nashville, Tenn.

Tickets for the event will be $5 and will be sold at the door. All proceeds will go to the Pickens Senior Center.

Doors will open around 6 p.m., and the concert will start at 7 p.m. Please use the rear door for entry. The Hagood Community Center is located at 129 School House St. in Pickens. Call Reeves at (864) 878-0855 for more information.

• Dalton reunion scheduled for Aug. 12

The descendants of Lewis Rector Dalton and Janie Bowen Dalton will gather to share lunch, family memories, stories and news on Aug. 12.

The reunion will be at 1 p.m. in the fellowship building of Elljean Baptist Church, located at 605 Elljean Road off S.C. Highway 8 between Pickens and Easley. Everyone is encouraged to bring lunch to share. Drinks, silverware and paper products will be provided.

• Amazing Grace to hold early services

Amazing Grace Lutheran Church invites the public to visit Sunday morning for worship and fellowship at 8:45 a.m.

The services are held in the Dillard chapel, located at 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway in Pickens.

• Legion seeks WWII vets for Honor Flight

The Honor Flight Program is looking to reach all World War II veterans.

Pete Peters and Richard Reece, who are members of the staff at Honor Flight, are also members of Pickens American Legion Post 11. The two men are seeking WWII veterans who haven’t gone to Washington to see the WWII Memorial Monument.

The cost of the trip for the vet is free. Each veteran will also be assigned a guardian, who will be his extended family for the day and will attend to all his needs. In addition to the WWII Memorial, those on the Honor Flight will visit the Korean, Vietnam, Lincoln and Marine Corp Memorials.

They will finish off the day at Arlington Cemetery for the changing of the guard. Food, drinks and snacks are provided. Honor Flight also carries its own medical staff to tend to the safety and well-being of all veterans.

If you have any WWII veterans in your family or if you know of any who haven’t seen the memorial yet, please contact Peters and Reece, and they will help get the process started. The next flight is anticipated to be this fall.

• Lusk Memorial Golf Tournament planned

On Sept. 21, The Rock Golf Club and Resort will be the site of the first ever Logan Lusk Memorial Golf Tournament.

Lusk, who was killed last February in an auto accident, will have the event named in his honor. The tournament is a benefit for the Logan Lusk Memorial Scholarship at Lander University and high school seniors around Pickens County.

Registration and lunch will be at noon, with a captain’s choice format and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per team.
