Liberty — C. Eston Foster, 76, of 8217 Liberty Highway, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at his residence.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Columbus Ransom and Merlie Black Foster.

He worked his whole life as a carpenter. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and during his free time loved to do woodworking, play golf and read.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Mae Looper Foster of the home, two daughters, Libby Maw (Rusty) of Liberty, and Robin Brock (Keith) of Fountain Inn, three sisters, Margaret Limbaugh of Greenville, Deleana Wilson of Piedmont, and Edith Day of Easley, a brother, Vealon Foster of Greenville, two grandchildren, Ashley Finley and Jeremy Gregg, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Endel Roberts.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Foster were held June 12 at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Liberty Mortuary is handling the arrangements and assisting the Foster family.

Gail Greene

Liberty — Patricia Gail Greene, 67, wife of Douglas James Powell, passed from this life Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Gail was born in Greenville, daughter of the late William Carlton and Velma Lee Owens Norris. She was retired and of the Baptist faith. Gail loved photography, serving as the family photographer, and she loved to grow flowers.

Survivors include her husband, James Powell, of the home, sons, John William Greene (Wendy) of Greenville, James Wesley Greene (Theresa Ann) of Liberty, Jesse Wade Greene (Tammy) of Six Mile, and Joseph Wayne Greene (Rebecca) of Pickens, sisters, Sandra Pilgrim of Easley and Diana Massey of Norris, and a brother, David Joseph Norris of Easley. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The family received friends on Sunday at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with funeral services following in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Karen Murphree

Pickens — Ida Karen Murphree, 62, of 1790 Walhalla Highway, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Esther Ellenburg Murphree.

Karen retired from E.C.P., where she worked for 28 years. Her hobbies included needlework, reading, Atlanta Braves baseball and spending time with her family.

She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where she taught preschool Sunday school for more than 44 years.

Surviving are a sister, Debbie Hawkins (Jim) of Aiken; two nieces, Jennifer Casto (Carson) of Lexington and Juliette Hawkins of South Africa; a nephew, Tim Hawkins of Atlanta; a great-niece, Patton Casto and a great-nephew, Carter Casto.

Funeral services to honor Karen’s life were conducted Saturday at Mountain View Baptist Church. The burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

To continue her legacy of teaching children love for Jesus, the family requests memorials be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, Children’s Ministry, 336 Mountain View Church Road, Six Mile, SC 29682.

Walter Cecil McWhorter

Pickens — Walter Cecil McWhorter, 89, husband of Wilma Powell McWhorter, went to be with the Lord Thursday June 11, 2015.

Mr. McWhorter was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Elizabeth Avarilla Anthony and Clarence Pearson McWhorter.

Mr. McWhorter loved his family dearly and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and at Omaha Beach on D-Day.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, two daughters, Evelyn Rackley and husband Jamie, Renee McClain and husband Danny all of Pickens, two brothers, Earl McWhorter and Fred McWhorter and wife Julie all of Pickens, two sisters, Faye Powell and husband Wallace, Mary Porter and husband Sherman all of Pickens, four grandchildren, India Rackley of Pickens, Jennifer Green of Pickens, Heather Hughes and husband Justin of Macclesfield, N.C., C.J. Rackley of Pickens, and two great-grandchildren, Jared Green and Brianna Green.

Mr. McWhorter was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation was held on June 13 at Dillard Funeral Home, with chapel service following. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

James Robert

“Jimmy” Galloway

Easley — Mr. James Robert “Jimmy” Galloway, 72, of Easley, loving husband of Helen Jean Wilson Galloway, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Hospice of the Upstate’s Rainey House in Anderson.

Jimmy was born in Easley on July 27, 1942, to the late Roy and Beatrice Ramage Galloway. He retired from Alice Manufacturing Company as a weaver and loved hunting, fishing, racing, and especially spending time with his family and friends. Jimmy was a United States Navy veteran formerly stationed in Hawaii and spent a lot of time on ships between there and Japan.

In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by a son, Robbie Galloway (Melissa Harrison), of Easley; a brother, Harvey Galloway of Easley; and a sister, Doris Dogens of Easley. Jimmy is also survived by three granddaughters, Nicole (Chad Edwards), Silver, and Skye, one grandson, Cody; and three great-grandsons, Kelton, Cooper and Rebel.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown.

The family is at their respective homes and will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jimmy’s name to Hospice of the Upstate – Rainey House, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Cecil Esuary

Pickens — Cecil Esuary went home on June 10, 2015, at 7 p.m.

He is survived by two sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, and his daughter, Shirley.

Visitation was held on June 13 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, with a funeral service following at the church. The Rev. Mike Belcher officiated. Burial was at Pickens View Wesleyan Church cemetery.

Lois Clementine Charles

Easley — Lois Clementine Charles, 70, wife of Corby Charles, went to be with the Lord Tuesday June 9, 2015, at Hospice Care of the Piedmont.

Mrs. Charles was born in Greenville, a daughter of the late Sophie C. Radford Underwood and J.C. Underwood.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Corby Lee Charles, daughters, Rhonda Barton (Timmy) of Ware Shoals, and Melissa Lopez (Antonio) of Easley, a son, Jimmy Brown of Easley, step-daughters, Goldie Finley of Marietta and Crystal Finley (Brian) of Greenville, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a step-brother, Larry Lee Pace of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by sisters Kasciena Stewart and Faye Bayne and a brother, Charles Underwood.

The family received friends June 12 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens, with funeral services following in the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

McCarley

PICKENS — Carolyn Willodean McCarley, 66, was born Sept. 13, 1948 to Ross and Cora Gilstrap. She went home to be with the Lord June 6, 2015, at 11:27 a.m.

She was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church and loved Jesus. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and sister in Christ.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of many years, Larry McCarley. They have five children: Frances Mitchell, Cindi Sheppard, Marie Robinson, Gene McCarley and Dennis McCarley. They also have 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
