Kay Alexander

Liberty — Lolita Kay Ruth Watson Alexander, 61, wife of Virgil Clifton Alexander, died Wednesday, July 9 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Valdosta, Ga., to the late Angus Terrell Watson, Sr., and Kathryn Lolita Byrd Smith, Kay was a graduate of Tri-County Technical College where she also worked in the Admissions Department.

She enjoyed swimming, making jewelry, Pandora bracelets, as well as other crafts, attending yard sales and spending time with her grandchildren who meant so much to her.

Mrs. Alexander was also a dedicated primary member of the Easley Chapter 200 O.E.S, and a duel member of the Liberty Chapter 80 O.E.S.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Michael Phillip Alexander of Liberty; four daughters, Sandra Malone (John) of Piedmont, Katie Wilson (Joey) of Easley, Bobbi Jo Stewart (Michael) of Liberty and Chantel Reynolds of Liberty; a brother, Angus Watson, Jr. of Nashville, Ga.; three sisters, Grace Watson of Easley, Betty Phillips of Perry, Ga. and Wanda Makuch of Warner Robbins, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Michael Wilson, James Stewart, Michelle Wilson, Amanda Stewart, Kara Malone, Kaylee Stewart, Brittany Malone, Hannah Gambrell and Abbey Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Bentley Moore, Cassidy Holland, Cash Moore, Kylie Wilson and Emma Stewart.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Easley Chapter 200 OES, P.O. Box 2566, Easley, SC 29641.

Leroy Leopard

Pickens — Leroy Leopard, 73, of Allgood Bridge Road, husband of Carolyn Springfield Leopard, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Beulah Leopard Crain. Mr. Leopard was self-employed. He was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church, member of the Keowee Masonic Lodge #79 A.F.M., former member of the Brandon Masonic Lodge #279 A.F.M., a Shriner, and a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the 82nd Airborne Division.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stewart Leopard of the home; a daughter, Stacy Leopard Reece and her husband, Travis of Pickens; a granddaughter, Lauren Reece; two sisters, Helen Smathers of Canton, N.C. and Alma Gosnell of Spartanburg; and two brothers, James Buford Crain of Sevierville, Tenn. and Freddie Crain of Mars Hill.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 11 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Harold Van O’Shields

Winston-Salem, N.C. — Harold Van O’Shields died July 6, 2014.

He was born Sept. 9, 1938. The son of the late George and Dessie Brezeale O’Shields. Harold was an individual who loved people and loved the Lord as his personal Savior.

Harold is survived by his wife Helen, her daughter, Kathy, Kathy’s three children and six grandchildren. They were the delight of his life. Also surviving are four sisters and three brothers.

An additional memorial service will be held at Concord Baptist Church, 723 Concord Church Rd., Pickens, SC 29671, on Saturday, July 19 at 11 a.m. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Charles T. Hester

Easley — Mr. Charles Thomas Hester, 86, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Robert Lee and Dessie Kessie Shaw Hester, Mr. Hester was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy for 19 years, and later retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines with 19 years of service.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sons, Charles T. Hester, Jr. (Sybil) of Piedmont, and David W. Hester (Peggy) of Greenville; two brothers, Alvin Edward Hester (Elizabeth) of Anderson, and Marvin Edgar “Buddy” Robinson of Dalzell; one sister, Inez Buck of Anderson; and three grandsons, Gary Brandon Hester, David Brantley Hester, and Matthew Mark Hester.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hester was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services, with military honors, were 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13 in the Veteran’s Garden of Honor of Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Rd., Easley, SC 29642.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Susan B. Kay

Pickens — Susan Brown Kay, 63, of Caterpillar Lane, wife of the late Charles Thomas Kay, died Thursday, July 10, 2014.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of Ellen Turner Brown of Pickens and the late Samuel Roy Brown, Jr. Mrs. Kay was a homemaker. She was a 1969 graduate of Pickens High School and was a member of Griffin Baptist Church and the Pastor Mark Bernshausen Sunday School Class.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her children, Richard Breazeale of Belton and Shelley Kelly (Chad) of Greer; grandchildren, Camdyn and Samuel Breazeale, and Chase Kelly; a brother, the Rev. Tony Brown of Winston Salem, N.C.; and her loving dog “Coco”.

A graveside service was Sunday, July 13 at 4 p.m. in Griffin Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bobby Parker

Pickens — Bobby Carroll Parker, 47, of 4732 Moorefield Memorial Highway, died Sunday at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, he was the husband of Rita Stewart Parker and a son of Charles and Carolyn Holmes Mauldin of Greenville. He was an avid fisherman and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife, mother and step father are a sister, Lynn McGarry of Westfield, N.C.; a step sister, Kathy McDonald of Greenville; a brother, Allen Parker of Jefferson, Ga.; a step brother, Terry Mauldin of Greenville; and his mother in law, Vivian Stewart of Liberty.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Parker will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Liberty Mortuary. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the residence of Donnie and Susan Rollins at 343 Garvin Road Liberty, SC 29657.

Rev. Charles D. Lusk

Pickens — The Rev. Charles D. Lusk, 75, of Pickens, died on July 13, 2014 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Wiley and Bessie Todd Lusk. The Rev. Lusk was the former Pastor of Fall Creek Baptist Church in Salem for 16 years and retired from Singer/Ryobi. He was a graduate of Keowee High School, Tri County Technical College and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He is survived by loving daughter, Chana Gibson (Billy) and loving son Greg; three brothers, the Rev. Ferber Lusk and the Rev. Leon Lusk both of Salem, and Virgil Lusk of Pickens; two granddaughters, Heather Howell (Joseph) and Mary Gibson of Mississippi; and six great grandchildren; a special companion, June Brown of Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished.

A special thanks to our family friend Rose Taylor for always being there for help and support.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Emma Jane Lusk and a brother, Herbert Lusk.

A service to celebrate the Rev. Lusk’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

J.T. Hathcock

Liberty — James T. “J.T.” Hathcock, 86, of Liberty, died on Monday July 14, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Stanley County, N.C. he was a son of the late William Dewey and Lizzie Brooks Hathcock. He was a resident of Stanley County, N.C. all his life until moving to Liberty after retirement.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Hathcock of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Crystal Hathcock of Liberty; a sister, Reba Byrd of Oakboro, N.C.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ned Hathcock.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Hathcock will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at East Side Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
