LIBERTY — Nelson Wayne Pilgrim, 84, of 959 Breazeale Road, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the home of his son in Liberty.

Born in the Prater’s Creek area of Six Mile, he was the widower of Bernice Reeves Pilgrim and a son of the late William Paul and Ollie Bell Bolding Pilgrim. He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church and was retired from Kent Manufacturing.

Surviving are three sons, Charles “C.W.” Pilgrim (Bette), Randell Pilgrim (Mary Ellen) and Scottie Pilgrim, all of Liberty; a brother, Marvin Pilgrim; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Melinda Davis, and a brother, Herman Pilgrim.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Pilgrim were held July 25 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family would like to give a special thanks to two special people, Jessica Gasque and Julie Griffin, R.N., who were his caregivers from Providence Hospice. Liberty Mortuary is assisting the family.

DAVID BRIAN RAMEY

EASLEY — Mr. David Brian Ramey, 48, husband of Donna Anglin Ramey, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Born in Pickens County, a son of Susan Ann Grahl Reece and the late Luther Douglas Ramey, Mr. Ramey was an HVAC technician and a member of the Church of Christ of Liberty, Tenn. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a daughter, Krystyna Smith of Franklin, Tenn.; five brothers, Bradley Allen Ramey of Easley, Scott Douglas Ramey of Pickens, Richard Dean Ramey of Easley, Cody Reece of Liberty, and Jody Reece of Liberty; three sisters, Melissa Ramey Smith of Easley, Hope Caldwell of Easley, and Cyndi Thomason of Liberty; and one granddaughter, Emma Smith.

Memorial services were held July 25 at Carolina Community Church in Liberty.

PAUL HERMAN MCCLELLAND

LIBERTY — Paul Herman McClelland, 71, of 105 Sheila Drive, formerly of Hancock, N.Y., and Norwich, Conn., passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.

Born in Clarion, Iowa, he was the husband of Judy Beardsley McClelland and a son of the late Casey and Leone Messer McClelland. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, from which he retired and became a self-employed truck driver. Following his second retirement, he and his wife of 52 years traveled before settling down in Liberty. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Deborah Seely and her husband Frank of Hancock, N.Y., Stacey Gray of Boston, and Susan McCullough and her husband Mike of Baltic, Conn.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with full military honors was held July 24 at Liberty Cremation Services. Liberty Mortuary and Cremation Services are assisting the family.

THOMAS G. ARBLASTER

CENTRAL — Thomas Grant Arblaster, 79, of 296 Spring St., husband of Rose Wilcox Arblaster, went to be with his Heavenly Father Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at his home.

Born in Washington, Pa., he was a son of the late John W. and Olive Melton Arblaster.  He retired after 31 years as a U.S. Postal Letter Carrier in Greenville and was currently employed with Avis Car Rental in Greenville. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Daniel (Jennifer) Arblaster of Easley; daughters, Lil Sutherland of Six Mile, Jan Arblaster of the home, Tammi (Larry) Smith of Central, and Connie (Joe) Garland of Norris; brother, David (Barbara) Arblaster of Washington, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Rebecca Arblaster.

 A celebration of life service was held July 25 at Camp Creek Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one›s choice.

ALENE LUKER TEAGUE

LIBERTY — Alene Luker Teague, 69, of Liberty, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2015.

Survivors are her son, Frank Teague, and daughter-in-law, Candice Teague of Liberty, along with two grandchildren, Garett Teague, of Seneca, and Marissa Teague, of Liberty.

Her siblings include brothers, James Luker, Wallace Luker (sister-in-law Gemi), Elmer “Hop” Luker, Leamon Luker (sister-in-law Linda), David Luker and Thurman Luker, all of Tuckasegee, N.C.

Teague was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Teague, and son, Brian Teague, sisters, Virginia Jones, and Lucille Crawford, and parents Allen and Lillie Luker.

Alene’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 30, at 3 p.m. at Free Chapel Church, located at 140 Lighthouse Road in Walhalla.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to family to take care of final expenses.

ALLEN RIDDLE

EASLEY — Mr. A. Allen Riddle, 91, husband of the late Margaret Murphy Riddle, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Robert and Nell Vaughan Riddle, Mr. Riddle was the founder and former owner of Easley Farm Supply and a member of Easley First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

Surviving are two sons, David A. Riddle (Brenda), and Stephen A. Riddle (Kathy), all of Easley; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Riddle of Easley; one brother, J. Douglas Riddle (Mitch) of Taylors; a very special friend, Bethel Finley of Easley; six grandchildren, Jason, Aaron, Ben and Caleb Riddle, and Toniette Mathis and Katie Crock; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Riddle was predeceased by a son, Mark A. Riddle; a sister, Caroline Lockaby; and a daughter-in-law, Jane Brown Riddle.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Dr. John Adams and Rev. Judy Frost officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family is at the home.

PATRICIA ANN SIMMONS

EASLEY — Patricia Ann Lesley Oates Simmons, 79, of 816 Johnson Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at her home.

Born in Easley, she was the widow of Furman Edward Simmons and a daughter of the late William Harrison and Effie Smith Lesley.

She was an L.P.N. for 35 years between Laurel Hill Nursing Home and Greenville Memorial Hospital. She loved cooking for her family and traveling with them, too.

She was a member of Lenhardt Christian Fellowship.

Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Dassinger, Becky Grice and Patti Sentell, all of Easley; a brother, Rev. Franklin Lesley of Pickens; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two stepsons, Kenneth and Steve Simmons, both of Pickens.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Debbie Pilgrim and Wanda Oates, two sisters, Christine Atkinson and Edda Sanders, two brothers, Charles and Jim Lesley, and two granddaughters, Denise Summerall and Hailey Wilson.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Simmons will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Private family burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.

The family will be at the home. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements.

J.C. MCCOLLUM

LIBERTY — James Clayton “J.C.” McCollum, 87, of 106 Belleview Drive, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Heartland-East in Greenville.

Born in Liberty, he was the widower of Barbara Holcombe McCollum and a son of the late James Wade and Ruth Gravley McCollum.

Mr. McCollum was a graduate of Liberty High School, where he played running back on the 1947 state championship team.

J.C. retired from Cornell Dublier and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. He was also a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a daughter, Pam Medlin of Liberty; a son, Mark McCollum (Grace) of Simpsonville; a sister, Edna Kelley of Easley; three grandchildren, Jessica Porter, Kristen Gallant and Zach Medlin; six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Emma, James, Chris, Jayce and Kasen.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. McCollum will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

The family will be at the home of Adam and Jessica Porter at 212 Holder St. in Pickens. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements.

GRACE N. DAVIS

EASLEY ­— Grace Nix Davis, 93, widow of Marshall Clarence Davis, passed from this life on Saturday, July 25, 2015.

Mrs. Davis was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Ulysses E. and Lou Annie Monroe Nix. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Davis was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from private duty nursing.

Survivors include a son, Gary W. Davis (Theairl) of Easley, daughters, Ruth Blackston (Clifton) of Greenville, and Ruby Albertson (Weldon) of Easley. Also surviving are grandchildren, Greg Davis, Brant Davis, Karen Anderson, Barry Blackston, and Kevin Blackston. Great-grandchildren include Justin Davis, Josh Davis, Cruz Davis, Brooke Davis, Tyler Davis, Niklaus Davis, Maiden Blackston, Scottie Blackston, Carson Sok, Sane Napuecas, and Kyle Anderson and great-great-grandchildren, Bella Ard and Chloe Davis, and a dear friend of the family, Phyllis Lindsay.

Mrs. Davis was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held July 28 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

WILMA ANN CHILDRESS HINES

DECATUR, Ga. — Wilma Ann Childress Hines, 75, wife of the late Miller Hines Jr., passed from this life Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at her home.

Wilma was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late William Hagood and Vera Grace Dickson Childress.

Survivors include a son; Tyrone Hines of Decatur, Ga., five sisters; Winifred Dodgens Hindman (Tom) of Easley, Katherine Albertson (Rodrick) of Walhalla, Pamela Crispo (Mike) of Seneca, Betty Sewell of Greenville, and Sadie Lamonion of Summerville.

Mrs. Hines was predeceased by her parents, her husband, six sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were held July 25 in the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Rev. William Starnes. Burial followed at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in the family plot.
