Blanche Dodson

Liberty — Blanche Naomi Alexander Dodson, 88, of 227 Alta Vista Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015.

Born in Easley, she was the widow of Edward W. “Buck” Dodson Sr. and the daughter of the late Foster Pickens and Maggie Brucie Vaughn Alexander.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Liberty.

Surviving are three daughters, Sheryl Lyons (Jim) of Jefferson, Ga., Brenda Boggs (Doug) of Central, and Wanda Duncan of Columbia; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward W. “Buck” Dodson, Jr.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Dodson were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Lake W. Looper

Easley — Lake Walter Looper, 100, husband of the late Dean Mayfield Looper, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Manna Health and Rehab of Pickens.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Henry Arthur and Dora Friddle Looper, Mr. Looper retired from the Slater Plant of JP Stevens and was a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church, where he served as church treasurer for more than 40 years.

Surviving are a son, James W. Looper (Rebecca) of Dacusville; a daughter, Martha L. Wood (Jim) of Dacusville; a brother, Clayton Looper of Dacusville; four grandchildren, Angie Wood Dickard (David), Jamie Wood, Michael Looper (Kayce), and Susan Looper Cooper (Allen); and five great-grandchildren, Luke Dickard, Emma and Sarah Cooper, Ruth and Lake Looper. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Looper was predeceased by four brothers, Lewis, Lumas, Ansel and Bill Looper; and three sisters, Mary Anderson, Effie Looper and Florence Griffin.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, at Nine Forks Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ruby R. Hayes

Easley — Ruby Raines Hayes, 79, wife of the late Charles E. Hayes, died
Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital-Downtown.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Roy and Otis Lillian Hunter Raines, Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church,
where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She sang in the church
choir, where she performed solos glorifying the Lord, and took great pleasure being a witness for the Lord by traveling and singing with her family.

Surviving are three daughters, Jan Brown (Jeff), Rhonda Clark, and Lynn Hayes, all of Easley; one brother, James Raines of Pickens; two sisters, Florence Couch and Peggy Noblitt, both of Easley; four grandchildren, Josh and Lee Clark, Lauren Brown and Bailey Albertson; and four great-grandchildren, Zoe Hester, Zack, Elisha,and Abigail Clark.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hayes was predeceased by a son, Stephen Hayes; and two brothers, Preston and Ramond Raines.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rudy Smith officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Margaret Jane Summerell

Easley — Margaret Jane South Summerell, 82, of 104 Linwood Street, wife of the late Harvey L. Summerell, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at her home.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Louie and Ruth Hudson South, Mrs. Summerell was a homemaker and a member of United Wesleyan Church, where she belonged to the Ladies Bible Class.

Surviving are a son, Troy Summerell of Piedmont; three daughters, Hazel Patterson, Ardona Summerell and Anna Cison, all of Easley; a sister, Pearl Brown of Greenville and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Lelia Mae Lorenzo

Central — Lelia Mae Lowry Lorenzo, 89, of Central, the widow of Herbert Lorenzo, died, Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Manna Health and Rehab in Pickens.

Born in Titusville, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Zeb and Sadie Griffis Lowry. She lived most of her life in Florida and was a homemaker and loving wife and mother. She attended Keowee Presbyterian Church in Central.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Kalchthaler (Jim) of Norris and Donna Lorenzo of Palm Bay, Fla.; grandchildren, Cathleen Coggins and Alexandra Lorenzo; and great-grandchildren, Kayla and Sydney Coggins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Alex Lowry; and a sister, Katie Spence.

There will be funeral services that will be held in Titusville, Fla., with North Brevard Funeral Home and Cremation, 1450 Norwood Avenue, Titusville, FL 32796, handling the arrangements.

Violet Graham

Easley — Violet Moore Graham, 89, of 107 Pilgrim Drive, wife of the late Patrick Graham, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Charlie David and Ella McGaha Moore, Mrs. Graham retired from Alice Manufacturing Company and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a brother, Carl Benton Moore of Liberty; a sister, Margaret Stephens of Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Graham was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters, two nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Bobby G. Hayes

Central — Bobby Gene “Red” Hayes, 78, of 710 Maw Bridge Road, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Easley Baptist Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late the Rev. John L. and Mattie Gibson Hayes. He was a retired textile worker and was of the Holiness faith.

Surviving is his son, Michael Gene Hayes (Denise) of Central; sister, Carleen Burke of Oconee County; grandchildren, Brandon Michael Hayes and Amanda Hurley (Daniel); and great-grandsons, Derrick and David Hurley.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Whitman Hayes; brother, William Hayes; and sister, Ellie Rowland.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Burial followed at Ryder’s Mountain Church in Westminster.

Wilma Rhymes

Liberty — Wilma Whitaker Rhymes, 84, of 1032 Old Norris Road, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Country Care Assisted Living Center in Fair Play.

Born in Anderson, she was the widow of Thomas Rhymes and a daughter of the late Samuel and Gertrude Taylor Whitaker. She was a member of Winding Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Woodside Mills’ Cateechee Plant.

Surviving are three daughters, Ann Radford and Janice Chapman (Harvey) both of Liberty, and Carol Hudson (Carroll) of Pickens; a son, Don Holden (Carol) of Liberty; two sisters, Linda Rhodes (Stanley) of Liberty, and Patricia Knight (Ben) of Cross Hill; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a special grandson, Rodney Chapman.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Williams.

Lucille W. Cruse

Easley — Lucille Warren Cruse, 90, wife of the late Martin Wesley Cruse, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Hosanna Health and Rehab, Piedmont.

Born in Madras, Ga., the daughter of the late James Filmore Warren, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Cox Warren, Mrs. Cruse was a homemaker and a member of Slabtown Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, James W. Cruse, Sr. of Easley; a daughter, Carrie Lou Oglesby of Canton, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cruse was predeceased by a son, William F. Cruse; six brothers and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Graveside services were held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, Ga.

Tecora R. Dendy

Central — Tecora Ruby Nell Rice Dendy, 61, of Central, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of Mary Rice Harrison of Clemson.

Tecora was a former custodian with the Clemson Downs and was a graduate of D.W. Daniel High School. She attended the English Norris Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Norris and loved her volunteer door-to-door ministry work. She was a sweet, loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend who will be truly missed.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughters, Melissa Hunter (Maurice) of Anderson and Roxie Dendy of Central; sisters, Carolyn Rice and Jacqueline Grant of Central; brothers Derrick Harrison (Greta) of Seneca and Dwayne Harrison (Lisa) of Auburn, Ala.; grandchildren, Cierra, Vivica and Jade; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Hampton and Barbara Dendy of Seneca, and Anna Dendy of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and brother-in-law Randy Dendy (Vastyne).

She was preceeded in death by her husband, George Edward Dendy.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m., Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Norris.
