SUE GILLESPIE

PICKENS — Mae Sueko “Sue” Agena Gillespie, 74, wife of Calvin “Coy” Gillespie, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013.

Mrs. Gillespie was born of Japanese heritage in Oahu, HI, a daughter of the late Jiro and Kami Yonamine Agena. She was retired from Ryobi Motor Products in Pickens and was employed with The Pickens County School District as a bus monitor for special needs children. Mrs. Gillespie attended Bob Jones University and was a member of Fairview Independent Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Calvin “Coy” Gillespie of the home, a son Norman Terry Holcombe (Cindy) of Six Mile, daughters, Lynette Kimiko Durham (Ronnie) of Pickens, Tracy Holcombe Craven of Rock Hill, and Patricia Holcombe Raby (Wes) of Pickens. Grandchildren include Tonya Holcombe Bruce, Frankie Welborn, Terry Dale Durham, Josh Welborn, Jon Owens, Jake Trotter, Jeffrey Raby, Casey Craven, Corey Craven, and Jase Raby, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, William Agena, Stanley Agena, Lawrence Agena, and Ronald Agena, and sisters, Lynette Ching, and Erma Tahata.

Services were 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 in the funeral home chapel at Dillard Funeral Home. Entombment was followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

WILLIAM E. “BILL” HENDRIX

EASLEY — Mr. William Edward “Bill” Hendrix, 92, husband of the late Juanita Morgan Hendrix, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at Richard Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Center.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Sim Mack Hendrix and the late Donnie Woodward Hall, Mr. Hendrix retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in WWII.

Surviving are a son, Daniel Hendrix (Christa) of Oak Island, N.C.; two daughters, Dina Sellers (Leon), and Patricia Wayne (Dan), all of Easley; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hendrix was predeceased by three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 at Victory Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

JAMES WHITT

EASLEY — James Hagood “Jimmy” Whitt, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at Majesty Health and Rehab in Easley.

Born in Anderson, to the late Waymon Willard and Pearl Browning Whitt, James worked as an electrician for Blacks Electric for many years and was an avid deer hunter. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Whitt is survived by a sister, Helen Whitt; a sister-in-law, Sandra Whitt; two nieces, Tracy Thomas (Rodney) and Deanna Gantt (Scott); and six great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert W. Whitt.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens.

LOUISE ALBERTSON

LIBERTY — Louise Gillespie Albertson, 84, of 383 Golden Creek Road, formerly of the Easley Mill Community, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at her home.

Born Feb. 12, 1929 in Anderson County, to the late Ernest and Lula Gassaway Gillespie, Mrs. Albertson was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Dock Frank Albertson of the home; a son, William Albertson of Liberty; two daughters, Mary Woodall (Paul) of Six Mile, and Joyce Rampey (Jim) of Liberty; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Albertson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

JOYCE H. HALL

EASLEY — Joyce Harris Hall, 76, of 115 Springdale Lane, wife of Curtis M. Hall, died on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 surrounded by her family.

Born in Easley, Mrs. Hall was a daughter of the late Marion and Gertrude Atkinson Harris. She attended Easley High School, and she was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church. For over 50 years, Mrs. Hall was a businesswoman who enjoyed her work in the finance and tax preparation business. She enjoyed traveling with her family as well as cooking, entertaining, and decorating in her home.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 60 years are her children, Kathy Porter, (Jimmy), Tim Hall (Sherry), and Lisa Smith (Brad) all of Easley; seven grandchildren, Zach Porter (Marie), Ashley Trent (Aaron), Sommer Langrehr (Jay), Brittany Porter (Chris), Cade Hall (Kristen), Matt Smith (Jamie), and Brandon Smith; and nine great-grandchildren, Tanner Smith, Mallory and Maddie Porter, Caleb and Lilly Trent, Brennan Langrehr, Reece and Blake Porter, and Gray Smith. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, Sylvia Massingill, Gary Harris, Don Harris, and Martha McKie.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown conducted by the Rev. Don Harris, the Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer, the Rev. Rodney Graham, Gary Harris, and Matt Smith. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

SAMUEL ALBRIGHT

PICKENS — Samuel Joseph Albright, 75, of 137 Scenic Drive died Tuesday at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Canton, Ohio, he was the husband of Karen Anderson Albright of the home and a son of the late John C. and Katherine C. Abright. He most recently worked at the Pickens County Country Club and also spent time at the Pickens Flea Market buying and selling coins and jewelry. He was also a member of Pickens First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Joe Albright (Donna) of Powdersville; a sister, Alice K. Davies of Waynesboro, Va.; a brother, John C. Albright of Coral Gables, Fla.; a granddaughter, Lexi Albright of Powdersville; and step grandsons, Ryan (Keri), Zachary, and Dustin Bolding (Chante).

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Sara Anne Parrott.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Albright were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

MARTHA S. AIKEN

LIBERTY — Martha Sue Kelly Aiken, 75, widow of Andrew J. Aiken, Sr., died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.

Mrs. Aiken was born in Pickens County, daughter of the late Ruby Lee Kelly. She was retired from Imperial Die Casting and was a member of Oolenoy Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Andrew J. Aiken, Jr. (Barbara) of Liberty, Robert Bradley Aiken (Terri) of Easley, daughters, Jane Miller, Debbie Moore, and Rebecca Cochcroft all of Easley and a grandson reared in the home, Robert Lee Aiken (Sarah) of Spartanburg, seven other grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Gary Kelly of Easley.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at Dillard Funeral Home in the chapel. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley.

LIBERTY — Bobbie Nell Edwards Jackson, 70, wife of Fred (Cooter) Jackson died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at her home.

Born in Laurens County, a daughter of the late Thomas Jackson and Ollie Ellison Edwards, Mrs. Jackson retired from Ryobi Company and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are a son, Thomas Jackson; three daughters, Pam Morton (Larry), Lynn Jackson and Amy Morton; a sister, Ruth Gentz; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jackson was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Rocky Edwards.

MAURICE I. PROULX

EASLEY — Maurice Isadore Proulx, 89, of Easley and husband of the late Dorothy Elizabeth Tackabury Proulx, died Thursday Jan. 2, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Mr. Proulx was born in Marionville Ontario, Canada, the son of the late Joseph and Anne Marie Demers Proulx. He retired from United Technologies Corporation in Syracuse, N.Y., attended St. Matthias Luthern Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.

Surviving are his son, David M. Proulx, of Apex, N.C.; a daughter, Diane Creaton, of Cleveland; two brothers, Charles Proulx, of Bernhardt Bay, N.Y. and Paul Proulx, of Kirkville, N.Y.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be in Syracuse, N.Y. at a later date. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.

JOHN ERNEST EVANS

CENTRAL — John Ernest Evans, 72, of Central, died at Cottingham Hospice House on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

Mr. Evans was born Nov. 16, 1941 in Pickens County and was a son of the late Warren W. and Nelle Holden Evans. He was retired from Clemson University as an electrician, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Rampey Evans; a daughter, Sherrie Durham (Daniel); the joys of his life, grandsons, Andrew and Alex Durham; sister, Janice Whitten; brother, Dan Evans (Doris); and special friends, Norm and Joan Baldwin.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Max Evans and a brother-in-law, A. C. Whitten.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 at Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Oconee Memorial Park.

PICKENS — James Carroll Nix, 63, husband of Frances Louise Byrd Nix, died Saturday morning, Jan. 4, 2014 at his home.

James was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Lawrence Baker and Mary Essie Revis Nix. He was a Baptist and retired as a stone mason.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Frances Nix of the home, a son, Jimmy Earl Nix (Diane) of Pickens and a daughter, Carolyn Louise Woody (Ronnie) also of Pickens, four grandchildren Perry Nix, Josh Nix, T. J. Nix, Cody Woody, and Deana Woody and a great grandchild, Easton Nix. James is also survived by his sister, Hazel Mason of Pickens.

Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 in the chapel at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

GEORGIA CLINGERMAN-WRIGHT

PICKENS — Georgia Ann Clingerman Wright, 64, of 236 Stephens Road died Friday evening at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Lyons, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Walter Calvin and Ethel Allen Clingerman. She had previously worked at Harvey’s Nursing Home and was a Christian.

Surviving are her husband Merle Wright, Sr. of the home; two sons Shannon Wright and his wife Wendy and Merle Wright, Jr. and his wife Denise all of Six Mile; a step daughter, Morgan Wright of the home; a step son, Josh Wright of the home; a sister, Rose Black of Easley; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a daughter Lorrie Bowman; and three brothers, Albert, Walter and Perry Clingerman.

Graveside services for Mrs. Wright will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary Church Cemetery. The family will gather following the service at the home of her son Shannon Wright.

ANNIE LOUISE CROMER

EASLEY — Annie Louise Lee Cromer, 85, wife of the late Wade H. Cromer died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at Foothills Presbyterian Home.

Born in Greenville County, Mrs. Cromer was a daughter of the late Creed and Della Waters Lee. Mrs. Cromer retired from textiles and was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law Laura Cromer; two grandchildren, Kelly Reece (Stephen) and Justin Cromer (Miriam); and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Audrey Reece.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cromer was predeceased by a son Wade H. Cromer Jr.; a sister, Christine Wehunt and a brother, Clifton Lee.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at Fairview United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

LIBERTY — Barbara Mullinax Danielsen, 83, died Saturday.

She was the widow of Guy Danielsen and the daughter of the late Wayne and Mabel Mullinax. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Sherry Trammell(Hal), Donna Cartee(Randy), Suzanne Hunt(Doug) and Lisa Boozer(Chris); a brother, Maxie Mullinax; nine grandchildren, Jody and Jason Cartee, Casey and August Hunt, Seth Trammell, Zane, Georgia and Krista Boozer and Haley Wietharn; and nine great grandchildren, Brayden and Logan Cartee, Reid Cherry, Ashlynn, Garrison and Katie Blake Cartee, and Brady, Kelby and Adeline Wietharn.

Funeral services for Mrs. Danielsen were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 at East Side Baptist Church. Burial at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

DOCK HENDRICKS

SIX MILE — Dock Eugene Hendricks, 63, husband of Linda Lou Miller Hendricks, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.

Dock was born in Pickens, a son of the late John Franklin and Lilly Ruvelle Pilgrim Hendricks. He was retired as superintendant with Garrett Construction Company and he was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda of the home, a son Shawn Hendricks (Amanda) of Six Mile, grandchildren Ashelie Hendricks, Hunter Hendricks, Kaitlyn Hendricks, and Adalyn Hendricks and a great grandchild Bentley Garrison. Also surviving are brothers, George Hendricks of Easley and Jimmy Hendricks of Six Mile.

In addition to his parents, Dock was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hendricks and a brother, Hampton Hendricks.

A memorial service was held 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at Gap Hill Baptist Church in Six Mile.

JANE HASKETT PATTERSON

PICKENS — Mrs. Jane Haskett Patterson, 81, wife of Lee R. Patterson, Sr., died on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Easley Baptist Hospital. She had been in declining health for years.

Born in Sylva, N.C., a daughter of the late John Parker Haskett, Sr., and Bertha Nicholson Haskett. Mrs. Patterson retired from Sanagmo Electric and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, three sons; Roy, Ronnie, and Robert Patterson, all of Pickens; three grandchildren, Tuesday, Blake, and Lee III, and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Parker Haskett, Jr., and five sisters, Jessie Justice, Jo Anders, Shirley Elrod, Fran Wood, and Reba Chastain.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and five sisters.

The funeral service was held on Monday, Jan. 6 at 2 pm at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Pickens.

DOROTHY HARRIS ROGERS

EASLEY — Dorothy Harris Rogers, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late William Curtis and Rachel Euzelia Harris, Dorothy was a retired cosmetologist and a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Billy Rogers and his fiancee’ Alice Beck, and Benji Rogers, all of Easley; one daughter, Sherry Hall and her husband Tim, of Easley; two sisters, Carol H. Smith of Easley, and Ann H. Pittman of Fort Mill; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her special puppy, Bones.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by a son, Butch Rogers; a brother, James F. Harris; two sisters Elsie H. Herzenberger and Joan H. Floyd; and one granddaughter, Jessica Rogers.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

Visitation will be immediately following the service at the church.

Family members are at their respective homes.
