LINDA MANLEY HENSON

PICKENS — Linda M. Henson, 66, wife of Mark Henson, tragically passed from this life on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, in an automobile accident in Florida.

She was born in Florida, a daughter of the late Ernest Manley and the late Mary Ann Routt.

Survivors include her husband, Mark of the home; a daughter, Carmilithia Staton of Pickens; a grandson, Duane Staton of Florida; and a great-grandson.

A memorial service to honor Linda’s life was held on Oct. 12 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Robbie Eades.

PRESTON LEROY PILGRIM

CENTRAL — Preston Leroy Pilgrim, 69, of 181 Kelly Mill Road, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Six Mile, he was a son of the late Furman and Ruth Mauldin Pilgrim. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Pilgrim of the home; a daughter, Melissa Grant (Stevie) of Central; a son, Scott Pilgrim (Susan) of Liberty; two brothers, Marty and Ricky Pilgrim, both of Central; and three grandchildren, Jeremy Pilgrim (Rachel), Meagan Pilgrim and Abbie Grant. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Gaitlyn and Kolbeigh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Opperman and Dianne Pilgrim, and a brother, Darrell Pilgrim.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Pilgrim will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Central Independent Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.

W. EDWARD CRAWFORD

CENTRAL — William Edward Crawford, 74, husband of Jane Wooten Crawford for 48 years, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Dennis Edward and Florence Ethel “Ann” Moody Crawford.

Edward was a retired architectural draftsman with Clemson University and a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Pickens County Historical Society. He loved history and did extensive research on his family genealogy. He loved John Deere tractors and was a “junk” entrepreneur. For over 40 years, he shared his love of Santa by playing Santa for his church, the town of Central, shut-ins, parades and almost any event in the community that requested a visit from Santa. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Army Reserve.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Jason Crawford (Tracey) of Seneca and Shawn Crawford (Kelly) of Six Mile; sister, Wanda Olson (Harold) of Clemson; and grandchildren, Blake, Landon and Griffin Crawford.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 16 at Cannon Memorial Baptist Church, with burial following in Memory Gardens.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

BOBBY LEE WARDLAW

EASLEY — Bobby Lee Wardlaw, 68, passed away from this life on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Lee Andrew Wardlaw and Blanche Hanley Wardlaw, and husband of Sybil Wardlaw. Bobby was retired from the textile industry. He was of the Baptist faith and very loved by his family.

Survivors include his wife Sybil of 50 years; two sons, James Lee Wardlaw and his special friend, Kayla Capps, of Easley, and Russell Wardlaw and his wife, Tammie, of Easley; four grandchildren, Nicole Trammell, Brandon Wardlaw, Tanner Knight and Sophie Knight; two great-grandchildren, Abbie Wardlaw and Ryder Trammell; and one sister, Gladys Holbrooks of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.

A funeral service was held on Oct. 16 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

BOBBIE NELL LINGFELT BARKER

PICKENS — Bobbie L. Barker, 92, wife of Thomas Barker Sr., passed from this life Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late General Andrew Lingefelt and the late Mary Jane Timms Lingefelt. Mrs. Barker was retired as a seamstress and was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 74 years of the home; a son, Thomas Rudolph Barker Jr. (Patsy) of Pickens; grandchildren, Lisa Barker and Courtney Bryant (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Dixie and Landyn; brothers, Billy Lingefelt (Ethel) and Jackie Lingefelt; a sister-in-law, Nell Lingefelt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Barker was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Glenda Kelley; a grandson, Brian Smith; and four brothers.

A cryptside service was held on Oct. 15 in the Tower Mausoleum at Oconee Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Ken Collins and Dr. Boyce Whitman.

GLENDA LOU STEWART SNEAD

SIX MILE — Glenda Lou Stewart Snead, 84, wife of the late James Snead, passed from this life on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Leland Stewart and the late Eula Belle Arnold Stewart.

Survivors include her children, Teresa Nix of Easley and Jean Eades (Hershel) of Pickens; grandchildren, Daniel and Jesse Nix, Amanda O’Neal (Randy) and Lucas Eades; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Trent O’Neal; a brother, Charles Stewart; and a sister, Genoble Lamance.

Mrs. Snead was predeceased by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Donnie Brezeale; and two sisters, Avanelle Summers and Sophie Jackson.

To honor Mrs. Snead’s wishes, all services will be private.

EASLEY — John K. Thomason, 40, husband of Heather Elrod Thomason, passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Bill and Gwen Brown Thomason of Easley. John was a truck driver and a member of NewSpring Church’s Powdersville campus. John had a love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Heather of the home; his parents; a daughter, Sky Geddings; a son, Lake Thomason; sisters, Kimberly Kelly (Jason), Jennifer Cournoyer (Steve), Katie Nicole Robison (Scott) and Nancy Brooks (Ben); aunts and uncles, Margie Arnold, Tommy Brown (Anna Lisa), Jandy Williams (Karen) and Meri-Ann Thomason (Rodney); and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by grandparents, Charles and Paunee Thomason and Homer and Eva Brown; great-grandmother, Sicily “Mommee” Caldwell; and uncles, Gene Arnold, John Brown, and Kirt Thomason.

A memorial service was held on Oct. 13 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home.

SIDNEY GRACE JOHNSON

EASLEY — Sidney Grace Johnson, 85, wife of the late William Johnson, passed from this life on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018.

Born in Pitt County, N.C., Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Franklin Coppage Singleton and the late Creola Blanche Roberts Singleton.

Survivors include her children, Dianna Gail Hall of Erwin, Tenn., Elizabeth Collins (Barry) of Greenville, Theo “Butch” Edwards of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Theda “Bunnie” Cagle of Brevard, N.C.; grandchildren, Marshall Collins and Amanda Collins; 11 other grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and a sister, Hilda McGraw.

Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son, Amos Lee Edwards; a daughter, Anita Edwards; a brother, Sonny Singleton; and sisters, Judy Wade, Martha Singleton, Cora Lee West and Kathleen Royale.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

PENNY DUNN STOGNER

EASLEY — Penny Dunn Stogner, 73, widow of the late Roger Stogner, passed from this life on Oct. 8, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, she is a daughter of the late Charles and Sara Dunn.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam Haynie-Worm (Mark) of Easley; grandchildren, Dillon Haynie, Daniel Haynie, Shannon Piekarski, Michael Worm (Diana) and Autumn Tadros (Mina); great grandchildren, Kylie Piekarski and Aria Tadros; brothers, Ray Dunn (Sandra) and Ken Dunn (Karla); and two sisters, Peggy Gilstrap and Pansy Williams.

Mrs. Stogner was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son, Lee Haynie; and one brother, Jay Dunn.

Penny was a member of Easley First Pentecostal Church.

A graveside service was held on Oct. 12 at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family of Mrs. Stogner.

DENISE GILSTRAP

PICKENS — Toni Denise Whitlock Gilstrap, 63, of 412 Florence St., died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at her residence.

Born in Greenville, she was the wife of Robin M. Gilstrap of the home and a daughter of Claudia Owen Whitlock of Liberty and the late Herschel Daniel Whitlock. She worked as a nurse at Greenville Memorial Hospital for more than 25 years. She enjoyed camping and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are a daughter, Carrie Whitlock Sutherland (Jason) of Pickens; two sons, Kyle Gilstrap (Erica) of California and Neil Gilstrap (Kelly) of McLean, Va.; three sisters, Becky Bagwell (Poss) of Liberty, Suzanne Koon (Randy) of Mountain Rest and Tamara Gollach (Jim) of Liberty; five grandchildren, Danielle Smith (Jeremy), Madison Chappell, Chandler Sutherland, Ender Gilstrap and Jacob Sutherland; and her life-long best friend, Debbie Hamby.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Gilstrap was held on Oct. 14, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Private inurnment at Liberty Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date.

ALICE MARIE MOORE

CENTRAL — Mrs. Alice “Marie” Shipman Moore, 82, wife of William Grady Moore, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018.

Born in Boydton, Va., a daughter of the late Thurman E. Shipman and the late Mattie Viola Gilliland Shipman, Mrs. Moore was retired from Woodside Mills and was a member of Cateechee Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 61 years, are three daughters, Teri Kaiser of Easley, Brenda Moore of Central and Vicki Nix of Pickens; a sister, Barbara Smith (John) of Easley; and four grandchildren, Lee Kaiser (Marisa), Zachary Nix, Quinn Nix and Hunter Nix.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moore was predeceased by a son, Grady Allen Moore; and three brothers, Elbert Shipman, Thurman Shipman and David Shipman.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 15 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Memory Gardens, Clemson.

Flowers will be accepted, and memorials may be made in memory of Marie to the Cateechee Baptist Church Youth Fund, P.O. Box 515, Norris, SC 29667.
