Bryan Dove

Easley — Mr. Lee Bryan Dove, 68, of Easley, loving husband of Susan W. Dove, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Bryan was born in Dillon County on Oct. 29, 1947, to the late Leo Elliott and Dorothy Hubbard Dove. He loved his family, had a huge heart, was a friend to everyone and he never met a stranger. His life will truly be remembered by the words of Jesus in John 11:4; “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”

Bryan was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley and was a great witness and leader for Christ. He taught Sunday school, was involved in the Men’s prayer group, the cancer group, was a deacon, and he was over the prayer room.

In addition to his loving wife, Bryan is survived by four sons; Jason Dove (Christie) of Anderson; Jarrett Dove (Cindy) of Pendleton; Robert Dove (Myra) of Md.; and Bradley Dove of Easley; and a daughter; Janet Taylor (Rick) of Belton;. Bryan is also survived by two brothers; Larry Dove (Gaby), and David Dove (Sindy) of Darlington; a sister; Diane Lee (Dexter) of Florence; and nine grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Linda Carroll and Mary Ann Dove.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore and the Rev. Richard Littleton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at the residence.

Flowers are optional, or the family requests that memorial donations be made to either the Rock Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642; or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Leon Gibbs

Clemson/Central — Leon Gibbs, 90, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, with his family in Central after a recent diagnosis of an inoperable mass.

He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Reidsville, N.C., son of the late James Marvin and Carolyn Holt Gibbs.

Leon grew up on the family homestead before entering Elon College in 1942 at the age of 16. After graduating, he joined the Army Air Corps. Following the war, he entered Duke University, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He began his career with Duke Power Company in Charlotte, N.C., and retired in 1997 as vice president with SP Associates in Charlotte N.C.

A member of the Northside Rotary Club in Charlotte, N.C., Leon practiced their motto “Service before self.” For many years, he was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and Appalachian Service Project. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and helping things to grow — others’ personal relationship with God through his prison ministry, flowers, vegetables and fruit trees.

He was a longtime member of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C., and after moving to Clemson, he joined Clemson United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Nanelyn Gibbs Mitchell; sons, Harold Sloan Gibbs, Eugene Bryan Gibbs; Samuel Victor Gibbs; James Marvin Gibbs, II; and Richard Leon Gibbs; grandchildren, Rachel Wolf Tucker, Walter H. Floyd IV, Alyssa Danielle Brames, Anna Lydia Gibbs, Grace Elizabeth Gibbs, Elizabeth Mae Gibbs, Blake Christian Gibbs and Christian Harris Gibbs.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Anne Sloan Gibbs originally from Franklin, N.C., and his brothers, William Bryan Gibbs formerly of Burlington, N.C., and Eugene Secor Gibbs formerly of Reidsville, N.C.;

A worship of God and celebration of Leon’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Clemson United Methodist Church in Clemson.

Leon chose to donate his body for medical research at Duke University, and his cremated remains will be inurned at a later date at Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C.

Judy R. Kelley

Pickens — Judy Ramey Kelley, 81, of 1055 Belle Shoals Road, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at her residence.

Born in Pickens, she was the widow of Theron Pick Kelley and a daughter of the late Finnie Coot and Gertrude Morgan Ramey. She was retired from Woodside Mills and loved hunting and fishing, as well as gardening. She was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are five daughters, Dretha Dorsey, Shirley Holder, and Debra Holder all of Pickens, Louise Campbell of Liberty, and Ellen Burns of Greenville; two sons, Timmy and Jimmy Kelley, both of Pickens; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Mae B. Ramey; a son, Ernest Dale Kelley; four sisters, Annie Fralick, Lula Belle Ramey, Ann Howard and Mertie Kelley; four brothers, Bobby, Louie, Woodrow and Marvin Ramey; and two grandchildren, Michael Dorsey and Eric Crenshaw.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Kelley will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mary Standridge

Greenville — Mary Evelyn Standridge, 93, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Manna Health and Rehab of Pickens.

Born in Dallas, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Rosa Florine Gibson Whitfield. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are four daughters, Mary York of Eastanollee, Ga., Della “Flo” Schaefer of Clarkesville, Ga., Juanita Williams of Baxley, Ga. and Nancy Kimsey of Cornelia, Ga.; two sons, Nathan Lester of Pendleton, and Robert Standridge of Vider, Texas; two sisters, Frances Bryant and Ellen Knight; one brother, Douglas Whitfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was predeceased by a son, Arthur Unbehant.

Private graveside services will be held at Norris Cemetery at a later date.

Cherilyn B. Wentzel

Easley — Mrs. Cherilyn Bridges Wentzel, 57, wife of Richard George “Rich” Wentzel, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at her home.

Born in Waynesboro, Va., a daughter of the late Toy Martin Bridges Jr. and the late Patsy Freeman Bridges, Mrs. Wentzel was a graduate of Converse College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she received her master’s degree in church music. She was a retired music teacher and a member of Laurens Road United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 35 years, are a son, Marty Wentzel (Katie) of Columbia; a sister, Linda Bridges Karr of Holland; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Nancy Thomas Allsep

Norris — Nancy Thomas Allsep, 75, of Garrett Drive in Norris, died Saturday, Oct. 5, at Trinity Care Memory Care Unit in Round Rock, Texas.

Born in Easley, she was the husband of the late Carl Parker Allsep and the daughter of the late Walter Franklin Thomas and Carrie Estelle Thomas.

She was retired from Bayne Machine Works in Greenville and was a member of Calumet Baptist Church. She was beloved by many.

Surviving are her son Franklin Keith Allsep (Teresa), and granddaughter, Addison Victoria Allsep, of Round Rock, Texas.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Kenneth “CK” Thomas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Allsep were held Oct. 12 at Calumet Baptist Church in Liberty, with entombment following at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Monroe Pressley

Easley — James Monroe Pressley, 87, of 188 Floyd Circle, husband of the late Shirley Burgess Pressley, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Walter Crayton Pressley and Emma Lee Black Pressley.

Mr. Pressley was retired from Wunda Weave in Greenville. He was a member of Truth Missionary Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, James Stephen Pressley (Susie) of Easley and Cindy Pressley Gowan (Eddie) of Pelzer; grandchildren, Lauren Ready (Michael) of Seneca and Cory Taylor, who is a cadet at the Citadel.

Graveside services were held Oct. 13 in Graceland Cemetery, Greenville.

Central — Lloyd Wilton Roper, 77, of 597 Issaqueena Trail, died at his home.

Born in Central, he was a son of the late John Samuel and Margaret Francis “Maggie” Price Roper. Wilton was a retired employee of LaFrance Industries and a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. He was a generous man, spending much of his time helping others.

Surviving are his daughter, Ramona Roper of Easley; grandson, Toby John “T.J.” Roper of Altus, Okla.; sisters, Dot Traynum of Pendleton and Rachel Morrison and Reba Smith, both of Central.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John Samuel “Junior” Roper, Ray Roper, Marion Roper and Adger Roper; sister, Zelma Roscoe; half-brother, Paul Roper; and half-sisters, Jessie Martin, Bernice Kelly and Francis Sears.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Trinity Wesleyan Church, with burial following in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Easley — Mrs. Jacqueline Walker Capps, 95, wife of the late Walter Edwin Capps Sr., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenwood County, a daughter of the late Allen Randolph and Lillian Rebecca Young Walker, Mrs. Capps retired from Easley Manufacturing and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Walter Edwin Capps Jr. (Jane) of Anderson; a daughter, Sandra Patterson (Gary) of Liberty; a brother, Bubber Walker of McCormick; two sisters, Belle W. Story of Washington, Ga., and Sallie W. Rice of McCormick; four grandchildren, Stephanie Edwards (Keith), Michael Patterson (Sarah), Corbin Grant (Hank), and Walker Capps (Julie); and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Capps was predeceased by three brothers, Ran, Jay, and Lin Walker; and a sister, Frances W. Langley.

Mary Katherine Gorman

Easley — Mary Katherine Gorman, 21, of Easley, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016.

Mary was born in Greenville on Sept. 19, 1995, to Jean Helegda-Gorman of Easley, and Michael Blake Gorman of Lake Orion, Mich.

She was a 2014 graduate of Easley High School. Mary recently graduated from the Paul Mitchell School (of cosmetology) and began working at Urban Nirvana Day Spa in Greenville.

Mary is survived by her mother and father, as well as her sisters Lauren Wolfe of Easley, Angela Aiken (Michael) of Easley and Natalie Gorman of Cary, N.C.

She is also survived by three nieces, Jayda, Keely and Riley, and one nephew, Bryson.

Mary Katherine’s family will always remember her as a free spirit with a dancing soul. She had an unforgettable laugh and a smile that made life brighter. She loved her family so deeply and her friends were an absolute treasure to her.

Ava Lee “Tobby” Manley Brookshire

Easley ­— Mrs. Ava Lee “Tobby” Manley Brookshire, 62, of Easley, loving wife of Walter Giles Brookshire III, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Tobby was born in Anderson County on Sept. 23, 1954, to the late John and Edith Moore Manley. She spent her life taking care of her family, for which she loved more than anything. She was a humble and sweet spirit who loved baking cakes, her church, her church family, and her little Chihuahua, Emma. Tobby was a member of Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy.

In addition to her loving husband, Mrs. Brookshire is survived by four daughters, Stephanie Milhoan (Brian) of Easley, Jessica Brookshire (Allen Medlock) of Pickens, Ashley Carr (Martin Gonzalez) of Easley, and Amanda Greeno (Leslie) of Pickens; and one sister, Ruth Pilgrim of Six Mile. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Kayla Brookshire (Max Manley), Dawson Milhoan, Tyler Brougham, Alex Brougham, Caitlyn Brougham, Samuel Wakefield, Ava Medlock, Gracie Medlock, Kason Medlock, Izabella Fisher, Gabriella Carr, Abigail Carr, Katarina Gonzales, Gavin Greeno, Aubrey Greeno, Nathaniel Greeno and Arianna Greeno; and two great-grandchildren, Kaiden Brookshire and Maxx Manley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Faye Hare.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy, with interment following in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Barbara Sheriff

Easley ­— Mrs. Barbara Pierdzioch Sheriff, 80, wife of the late Billy Sheriff, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital-Downtown.

Born in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of the late Leo Frank and Regina Choinacki Pierdzioch, Mrs. Sheriff was a retiree of Family Dollar in Easley and loved working part time around the wonderful people at Hamrick’s in Easley. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren and being outside with her four-legged companion Lulu, a boxer-terrier mix.

She was a Southern Baptist Christian who attended Enon Baptist Church and was a member of the Encourager’s Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a son, Scotty Sheriff (Caroline) of Liberty; two grandchildren, Corey and Lauren Sheriff; and a special friend, Peggy Sloss.

Graveside services were held Oct. 17 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, with the Revs. Scott Willis and Brad Dover officiating.
