GILSTRAP, JR

EASLEY — Mr. Lewis “Earl” Gilstrap Jr., 66, husband of Emily Blackburn Gilstrap, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at his home.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Lewis Earl Gilstrap, Sr. and the late Mary Hunter Gilstrap, Mr. Gilstrap was a graduate of Easley High School and Clemson University with a Masters Degree and later received his EDS. He played football for Clemson from 1968-1971, where he excelled as a kickoff coverage specialist, defensive back and center. He belonged to the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

Earl was a passionate educator and recently retired from the School District of Pickens County as director of secondary education. After retirement, he served as an assistant principal at Southside High School.

He was a member of Easley First Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 34 years, are two sons, Graham W. Gilstrap (Lauren) of Columbia, and William B. Gilstrap of Jacksonville, N.C.; one daughter, Jessica G. Duvall (Jay) of Greenville; a granddaughter, Isabelle K. Duvall; two brothers, Richard H. “Rick” Gilstrap (KiKi) of Lexington, and Terry Lee Gilstrap (Sandy) of Clemson; and a sister, Mary Ann G. Culbertson (Wayne) of Easley.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at Easley First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

LOIS B. MCCALL

PICKENS ­— Lois Beatrice Gilstrap McCall, 87, of Crescent Hill Road, wife of the late Henry Lawton McCall, died Monday, Feb 2, 2015.

Born in Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Susie Chapman Gilstrap.

She was a homemaker to her five children, Alvin McCall (Diane) and John B. McCall (Sharon) all of Pickens; Tony McCall (Kathy) of Easley; Dorothy Dodson of Pickens and Betty Sue McCall of the home; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home, and burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Nelle Watson

PICKENS — Nelle Hunnicutt Watson, 100, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Mrs. Watson was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Henry Grace and Maggie Morgan Hunnicutt. She was a homemaker and a member of Prater’s Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Nannie Entrekin Sunday School Class and taught Bible School.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Reece of Pickens and a son, Leamon Watson (Vivian) of Pickens; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Watson was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Tom Walton Watson and Charles Wayne Watson, granddaughter, Cam Underhill, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

FANNIE L. SHEPPARD

EASLEY — Fannie L. Stockton Sheppard, 93, of Roosevelt Drive, wife of the late Vinson Hamilton Sheppard Sr., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Daniel and Lizzoro Rich Stockton, Mrs. Sheppard retired from Wometco Vending Company and was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Greenville. She attended Powdersville First Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Murphy (Carl) and Lorraine Morgan; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Sheppard was predeceased by a son, Vinson Hamilton Sheppard, Jr.; by a son-in-law, Charles H. Morgan, Jr., and by seven brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

BETTY CLARK

PICKENS — Betty Doris Chappell Clark, 81, of 716 E. Cedar Rock Street, died Wednesday at Manna Health and Rehab.

Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late William Sanford and Lucille Dodgens Chappell.

She retired from the Pancake House in Easley and was of the Baptist faith. During her time as a resident at Manna she enjoyed attending services and playing bingo.

Surviving are a daughter, Diane Harden (Howard) of Pickens; two sisters, Pat Rockwell and Barbara Hudson both of Easley; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannie Holliday, a son, Donald Robert Clark, a granddaughter, Melissa Diane Harden, and nine brothers & sisters.

Funeral services to honor Betty’s life were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MIKE MANN

DELAND, Fla. — Terry Michael “Mike” Mann, 59, of 904 East Pennsylvania Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Florida Hospital-Deland.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Olin and Opal Galloway Mann. He was a manufacturer’s representative for Capris Furniture. He loved to play golf.

Mike and Debbie attended Plymouth Avenue Christian Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Central are his wife, Debra K. Mann of the home; a daughter, Hilary Mann (Eric) of Plantation, Fla.; two sons, Eric Mann (Madison) of Deland, Fla., and Anthony DoMoe (Jeannine) of Verdi, Nev.; a brother, Randy Mann (Wanda) of Anderson; five grandchildren, Mark, Amelia, Scarlett, and Joe DoMoe, and Grayson Mann.

TONY CHAPMAN

LIBERTY — Stanley Tony Chapman, 64, of 817 Rice’s Creek Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born in Six Mile, he was a son of Willie Mae Willimon Chapman, and the late Luther Kirksey Chapman Jr. He retired from SYS Construction Company and during his free time loved horseback riding and hunting.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Six Mile are a son, Lee Chapman of Merritt Island, Fla.; a stepson, Benji Pilgrim of Liberty; two sisters, Vicki C. O’Shields (Mike) of Seneca, and Marilyn C. Lewis (J.L.) of Pickens; a granddaughter, Gabriella Vernell Chapman, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father he was predeceased by his wife, Lisa Jean Hawkins Chapman.

Memorial services to honor Tony’s life were held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Liberty Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
