H. Dale Rumph

CLEMSON — Heyward Dale Rumph, 68, of 213 Knollwood Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at AnMed Health Center in Anderson.

Born in Walterboro, he was the husband of Terry Hughes Rumph of the home and the son of the late Heyward C. Rumph and Rose Murray. He was a 1975 graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he earned a BS in accounting. He worked for CGS Administrators and loved all Carolina sports, playing tennis and reading a good book. Mr. Rumph served his country in the U.S. Army, including service in Vietnam. He was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Joshua Rumph of Hendersonville, N.C.; two daughters, April Carrick of Warner Robins, Ga., and Stacy Harvey of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a very special aunt and uncle, C.W. and Inez Thompson.

Funeral services for Mr. Rumph will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Burial with military honors at Murray Cemetery in Grover will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16.

Maxcy Brooks Patterson

CLEMSON — Maxcy Brooks Patterson, 92, widower of Kathleen Howell Patterson, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born in Lanford Station in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Charlton Boyd and Marguerite Fogle Patterson. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Infantry. He graduated from Clemson College in 1949. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed with Abney Mills, Louis P. Batson Company and Abbott Laboratories. Before moving to Clemson in 1994, he had lived in Woodruff for 40 years. where he was very active in the Woodruff First Baptist Church. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clemson.

Surviving are his daughters, Susan Putnam, Karen McAlister and Julie Bowie (Don); grandchildren, Brooks Brown (Deron), Amanda Stover, Kristopher Bowie (Rebecca) and Angela Thompson (Randy); and great-grandchildren, Jacey, Abbey, Trey, Alayna, Cayson Grace and Cade.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kathy James; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Riley; a sister, Harriett Ramage and husband Walter; and a brother, Charlton Boyd Patterson.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central. Private family entombment will take place at Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Clemson.

William Jerry Cyphers Sr.

EASLEY — William Jerry Cyphers Sr., 68, of 409 Barton St., died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at his residence.

Born in Chicago, Ill., he was a son of the late Thomas Wesley and Virginia Lillian Seemann Cyphers. He was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Natalie Sue Cyphers of Michigan, Rachel Lynn Schutter (Brent) of Kent City, Mich., and Ann Virginia Hammerle of Hart, Mich.; a son, William Jerry Cyphers Jr. of Hudsonville, Mich.; two sisters, Linda Koch of White Cloud, Mich., and Patricia Cox of Muskegon, Mich.; a brother, Wesley Cyphers; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Miller.

Carol Ann Riggins

CENTRAL — Carol Ann Huneycutt Riggins, 46, wife of Marcus Riggins, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at AnMed Health.

Born in Australia, she was a daughter of Ben and Virginia Ralston Huneycutt of Seneca.

Carol Ann was a 1994 graduate of Clemson University and earned her master’s degree at Clemson as well. She started her teaching career at Central Elementary and then chose to take a break from teaching to be with her children. She resumed her teaching career at Clemson Elementary School. She was a member of Clemson Presbyterian Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are one son, Jack Riggins of the home; daughters, Olivia and Sydney Riggins of the home; and sisters, Lisa Burgess of Hudson, Ohio, and Julie Dorr of LaPorte, Ind.

Services were held Feb. 10 at Clemson Presbyterian, with burial following.

Patricia Ann Rockwell

EASLEY — Patricia Ann Rockwell, 77, wife of the late Glenn Rockwell and daughter of the late Sanford and Lucy Chapell of Easley, passed from this life on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at her home.

Mrs. Rockwell spent her career in retail, where she retired.

Survivors include one daughter, Tammie Rockwell of Easley; a grandson, Glenn Rockwell of Charleston; and a sister, Barbara Hudson of Easley. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rockwell was predeceased by a son, Russell Rockwell, eight sisters and two brothers.

Graveside services were held Feb. 9 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.

Donnie Joe “Blockhead” Trotter

EASLEY — Donnie Joe “Blockhead” Trotter, 71, son of the late Alanzo and Janie Trotter and husband of Charlotte Trotter, passed at his home in Easley on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018.

Survivors include Charlotte, his wife of 27 years. Donnie has one son Scott (Tina) Trotter of Liberty; five daughters, Theresa Parker (Tommy) of Pickens, Tammy Powell (Tim) of Easley, Tina Brewer of Liberty, Tracy Batson (Brian) of Pickens and Danielle Love (Joe) of Anderson; two step-children, Michael Taborh and Robbie Gregg; two brothers, Jack Trotter of Pickens and Harvey (Jane) Trotter of Pickens; and two sisters, Jane Posey (William) of Easley and RoseLee Chappell of Six Mile. Mr. Trotter also leaves 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Dylan Trotter, three sisters and two brothers.

Services were held Feb. 10 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Samuel “Sammy” David Young Jr.

EASLEY — Samuel “Sammy” David Young, 58, passed from this life Feb. 9, 2018, in McCormick. He is the son of the late Samuel D. and Virginia Young.

Mr. Young worked as carpenter in the construction business. He was an avid baseball fan, loved cheering on the Clemson Tigers and deeply loved by his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Sommer Young of Manassas, Va., and grandson, Kaden Iraheta of Virginia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was predeceased by his sister Michelle Lee Young.

A memorial service was held Feb. 12 in the garden room at Dillard Funeral Home.

Esther C. Phillips

EASLEY — Esther Cooper Phillips, 91, of Farrs Bridge Road, wife of the late Tommy Ray Phillips, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.

Born in the Eastatoe community of Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late E.A. “Cap” Cooper and Carria Hudson Cooper.

Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker and member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and working in her garden.

She was a beloved mother to her children, Stephen Ray Phillips (Jan) and Chris A. Phillips (fiance, Belinda Tucker), all of Easley, and Sonny K. Phillips (Maxine) of Travelers Rest; and also leaves behind grandchildren, Lee Phillips, Ashley Phillips, Jacob Phillips (Kisha); a step-grandson, Chad Tompkins; and sisters, Margaret Burns of Pickens, Lucille Morgan of Greenville and Lydia Stewart of Florence.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Thomas David Phillips and James Harold Phillips; sisters, Pearl Reener, Leila Ellenburg, Lilly Mae Norton, Ruth Alexander and Leona Tolliver; and brothers, Charlie Cooper and Rev. E.A. Cooper Jr.

Funeral services were held Feb. 13 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.

James King

EASLEY — James William King, 94, of 507 Fleetwood Drive, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late Carl and Pearl Brown King.

He was the first manager of Bi-Lo in Easley and later retired from Community Cash. He attended the Church of God of Pendleton.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy Mulligan King of the home; a sister-in-law, Jane King of Honea Path; two brothers-in-law, Jim Mulligan of Liberty and Billy Mulligan of Piedmont; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. King will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Westview Cemetery. No visitation is planned.

The family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Emily Gillespie

LIBERTY — Emily Lee Gillespie, 90, widow of Benjamin H. Gillespie Sr. of 130 Norris Ave., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at her residence.

Born in Daytona, Fla., she was a daughter of the late William and Mattie Lee.

She retired from the Department of Social Services and she loved animals and classical music.

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Gillespie of Liberty; a son, Ben Gillespie (Jeanne) of Easley; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Madison and Kathryn.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Amanda and Keri Gillespie.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Gillespie were held Feb. 13 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home, 130 Norris Ave., Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville SC 29605.
