BOBBIE LEE MOODY HUGHES

PENDLETON — Bobbie Lee Moody Hughes, 85, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1933, in Greenville to the late Rev. Daniel W and Callie Stephens Moody.

Mrs. Hughes was a devoted Christian, and even during her sickness, she shared her love for the Lord with everyone she met. She was a devoted mother and wife, as well as being a business woman in her earlier years, owning and operating her own upholstery business. She also loved the outdoors, and her interests included camping, spending time at the beach, picnics, bluebird watching and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Tammy Hughes Lognion (Dwayne) of Pendleton and Anita Hughes Bratcher (Tommy) of Belton; one granddaughter, Shelly Bratcher Barrow of Belton; two sisters, Betty Haire of Easley and Ellen Harris of Easley; and two brothers, Gearld Moody of Easley and Donald Moody of Williamston.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Alfred Eugene Hughes; two brothers, Daniel W. Moody Jr. and Calvin W. Moody; and one sister, Shirley McKee.

Memorial services were held on July 12 in the funeral home chapel. Burial was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

VIVIAN H. BLALOCK

EASLEY — Dorothy Vivian Holder Blalock, 82, of Oaklane Drive, wife of the late Jack “Frosty” Blalock, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Lucy Baines Holder.

Mrs. Blalock was retired from Judson Mill in Greenville after 52 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Enon Baptist

Church and volunteered with Easley Baptist Hospital for more than 20 years. She enjoyed being around people and exercising at the YMCA with her sisters.

Surviving are her children, Roger A. Blalock (Sharon) and Sharon Rutz (Don), all of Easley; grandchildren, Heather Green (Jamie) and Michael Blalock (Kayla); great-grandchildren, Candice Howard (Justin), Jessica Brissey, Sierra West, Amber Ramey, Taylor Clark and Kennedy Riser; a great-great grandchild, Trinity Smith; and sisters, Betty Quist of Pickens and Ruby Hammond of Greenville.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Annie Moore; and brothers, Weldon, Grady, Eddie and Paul Holder.

A funeral service was held on July 15 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown chapel. Burial was held in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

WAYNE HAROLD ARNOLD

MCCORMICK — Wayne Harold Arnold, 83, of 678 Old Post Road, died on Friday, July 12, 2019, at his residence.

Born in Six Mile, he was the widower of Katherine Lounette Fant Arnold, to whom he was married for 60 years, and a son of the late Clayton and Ethel Henson Arnold. Mr. Arnold was a hard worker and carpenter most of his life. He was retired from Clemson University, where he worked in the paint shop. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was a longtime member of Prayer Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynn Smith and her husband Jeff of Central; five sons, Wayne Arnold and his wife Barbara of Anderson, Russell and Bobby Arnold, both of McCormick, Allen Arnold of Florida, and Jonathan Arnold and his wife Shannon of Six Mile; three sisters, Nell Breazeale of California, Martha Jean Moore of Six Mile and Shirley McSwain of Albemarle, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Hendricks and Mildred Murray; a brother, W.C. Arnold; and a grandson, Jason Eric Holder.

Funeral services for Mr. Arnold were held on July 16 at Prayer Baptist Church. Burial was held at Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

BYRON PICKENS

LIBERTY — Byron David Pickens, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2019, at his residence.

Born in Azalia, Mich., he was a son of the late Ernest Franklin and Doris Lafler Pickens. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from American Airlines after 39 years of service. He loved vegetable gardening and his precious cats, Josephine, Albert and Jill.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Joyce Strohl Pickens of the home; a daughter, Donna Duncan (Dale) of Liberty; a son, Ernie Pickens (Kathy) of Fairview, Texas; two sisters, Joyce Studnicka of Mancelona, Mich., and Mary Rehberg of Dundee, Mich.; four grandchildren, Amber Marquez, Sam Pickens, Megan Pickens and Jake Pickens; and a great-grandchild, Venice Marquez.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Wells; and a brother, Franklin Pickens.

No services are planned at this time.

BEULAH J. HOLCOMBE

EASLEY — Beulah Jane Galloway Holcombe, 81, of Pine Alley, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Alvoid Galloway and Ina Ridley Galloway.

Mrs. Holcombe was retired from Engineered Custom Plastics. She was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed cake decorating, dancing and being around people.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Renay Edens (Kurtis) of Easley; grandchildren, Chris Talbert (Crystal) and Theodore Edens; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Joshua and Eden; sisters, Patsy Morgan of Greenville and Geraldine Bearden of Pickens; brothers, Calvin Galloway Jr. of Pickens and Roy Galloway of Easley; and a special friend and “sister,” Peggy Holliday.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the father of her daughter, Johnny Oscar Holcombe; and a sister, Imogene Bearden.

A graveside service was held on July 16 in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

RUSTY BRAYN BENTON

EASLEY — Mr. Rusty Brayn Benton, 50, husband of Michelle Graham Benton, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

Born in Cabarrus County, N.C., the son of the late Wade Gilliam Benton and the late Brenda Gail Nance Cauble, Mr. Benton was a graduate of East Rowan High School and was employed as a superintendant with Sloan Construction. He was of the Baptist faith.

Rusty loved the outdoors and sitting on his back deck listening to his music, but his greatest love was spending time with his family and being a paw-paw. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are his “Pop,” Paul Cauble of Salisbury, N.C.; one son, Mason B. Benton (Brandi) of Easley; four daughters, Brittany Graham (Ranson) of Salisbury, N.C., Ashley Benton (Paul) of Venice, Fla., Amanda Ashley of Ware Shoals and Alysha Lucy (Josh) of Taylors; three sisters, Kim Matthews of Pennsylvania, Tasha Hall of Salisbury, N.C., and Tonia Benton of Ware Shoals; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

BOBBIE ANN MCGUIRE

POWDERSVILLE — Bobbie Ann McGuire, 89, of Oakview Park, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, in Powdersville.

Born in Cateechee, she was a daughter of the late Robert Carl and Minnie O’Dell McGuire.

She was retired from Westpoint Stevens and was of the Baptist faith. Bobbie Ann was a devoted sister who loved gardening and the outdoors. Her strong-willed and independent nature served her well during her lifetime and will be missed by many generations of her family.

Surviving are a special niece and caregiver, Debbie Whitlock (Ronnie) of Liberty; two sisters, Catherine Clayton of Valdese, N.C., and Jackie Bryant of Loganville, Ga.; two brothers, Bob McGuire of Easley, and Tom McGuire of Clemson; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jo Wilson, and two brothers, Ben and Billy McGuire.

Graveside services were conducted on July 11 at Liberty Memorial Gardens. No formal visitation is planned.

STANLEY “RED” DOUGLAS TROTTER

PICKENS — Stanley “Red” Douglas Trotter, 65, husband of Donna Smith Trotter, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Ben Hagood Trotter and Frances Rowland Trotter. Red worked in the heating and air industry in the past and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Donna, of the home, are his two daughters, Sharon Johnson (Eric Gibbs) and Amy (Chris) Viars; a brother, Ben Trotter; sisters, Jere (Calvin) Chappell, Patsy Cannon and Jo Holcombe, Sandy Thomason, Debbie (Darrell) Mann and Theresa Trotter; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Red was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Martha McCall and Renee Trotter; sister-in-law, Wilma Trotter; and in-laws, Lou and Doris Czeizinger.

Funeral services to celebrate Red were held on July 12 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

DENIS GRAHAM

EASLEY — Denis Ray Graham, 73, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at his home in Easley, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 5, 1946, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Robert and Ethelene and lived the majority of his adult life in the greater Kansas City area. He was a graduate of Park Hill High School and enlisted into the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict and was stationed at Camp Hakata, outside Fukuoka, Japan, with the 14th ASA Army.

He enjoyed traveling around the United States, visiting our country’s national parks and using his camera to document such trips. He had an extensive movie and record collection. He was into genealogy and researched the many family lines. His grandchildren provided great joy to his life.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Chie Graham; children, Reschin Moore (Cliff) and Bill Graham; his brothers, Terry (Tammy), Mark (Janice) and Kevin (Stacey); his sister, Karen (Michael); and his grandchildren, Christopher, Alec, Aidan, Ian, Saigi, Alex and Kenzo.

The funeral service was held at Easley Presbyterian Church on July 13, with Rev. Dr. William Seel officiating, followed by a burial service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

PATSY SEXTON CHASTAIN

PICKENS — Patsy “BeBe” Sexton Chastain, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2019, at AnMed Health in Anderson.

Born on Dec. 19, 1939, in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Charley and Lola-Mae Galloway Sexton.

Patsy was retired from Singer-Ryobi, where she worked in office administration for 39 years. She loved to decorate and enjoyed tending to her gardens. Her favorite game to play was Bridge, and she was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, James Allen Chastain; daughter, Cynthia Lee Chastain Tutton; sister, Margaret Springfield and her husband, Wayne; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Ted Sexton, and sister, Geraldine Elrod.

Funeral services were held on July 11 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. H.C. Couch and Rev. Barry Dilworth officiating.

Burial will follow at the Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

ADELL C. MOORE

EASLEY — Mrs. Adell Hammond Custer Moore, 95, wife of the late Harold D. Custer and the late Fulton Moore, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.

Born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Leonard Luther Hammond and the late Mardie Smith Hammond, Mrs. Moore retired from Abney Mills and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Adell was full of life. She enjoyed riding to the mountains before she became ill, and loved church activities, reading her Bible daily and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Surviving are three sons, James B. Custer of Simpsonville, David R. Custer of Pickens and Harold E. Custer of Easley; one brother, Marion T. Hammond (Ruby) of Greenville; three sisters, Loree H. Murray (R.C.), and Carolyn H. Harvell (Frank), all of Greenville, and Elaine H. Cook (William) of Mooresville, N.C.; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four special friends, Ruth, Chris, Lana (Peb) and Vivian.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Moore was predeceased by a daughter, Linda C. Masker; three brothers, Zelmer L. Hammond, E. Alvin Hammond and J.B. Hammond; two sisters, Betty H. Coggins and Evelyn Hammond; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on July 15 at Victory Baptist Church in Easley. Burial followed at Graceland Cemetery-West.

EASLEY — Billy G. Holder Sr., 79, husband of Naomi Mary Kennemore Childers Holder, passed from this life on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Fess Gene and Eula Raines Holder. Mr. Holder was a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Billy Gene Holder Jr., (Karen) of Pickens; a stepson, Jeffery Dean Childers (Kim) of Easley; a sister, Ilene Hughes (Brody) of Easley; and two grandchildren, Kayla Holder Correia (Brandon) of Easley and Kaitlyn Mariah Holder of Pickens.

Mr. Holder was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Nelle Holder; a brother, Bobby John Holder; and a sister, Doris Dickson.

A funeral service was held on July 14 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. The burial was held at Blue Ridge View Baptist Church Cemetery.

PERCY HUGH HOLDER SR.

PICKENS — Percy H. Holder Sr., 85, husband of Judy Argent Holder, passed from this life on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late James Gilliland and Ressie Holder.

He was a realtor and was a member of Pickens First Baptist Church for 73 years, a children’s Sunday school teacher for 45 years and a former deacon. He is a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of 60 years of the home; two daughters, Melanie Holder Hart (Larry) of Sevierville, Tenn., and Kristie Holder Golden (Jerry) of Pickens; a son, Percy Hugh Holder Jr. “Boots” (Katie) of Pickens; two sisters, Mary Mauldin Holder Lark of Pickens and Mozelle Holder Stewart (Garvin) of Pickens; seven grandchildren, Nathan Hart (Rachel) of Virginia, Kristen Phipps (Derrick) of Alabama, Daniel Hart (Liz) of Pennsylvania, Rebecca Gray (Todd) of Arkansas, Tasha Golden of Pickens, Elizabeth Acho (David) of Central and Joseph Holder (Melonie) of Central; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Holder was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Robert Ludlow Holder and Gilliland Earl Holder.

Funeral services were held on July 15 at Pickens First Baptist Church.
