LIBERTY — Earl Franklin Fowler, 86, of 102 Norman Street, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 29, 2015 at his home. Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Franklin Wilson and Mattie Hinton Fowler.

He retired from BASF and was a member of Calumet Baptist Church. His hobbies included fishing, camping, bird watching, and his Clemson Tiger Football Team.

Mr. Fowler served his country in the United States Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Bryant Fowler of the home; four daughters, Brenda Mull (Ronnie) of Liberty, Jene Peiffer (Bob) of North Myrtle Beach, Cheryl Byers of Jacksonville, FL, and Karen Fowler of the home; six grandchildren, Melissa Mull of Greenville, Brently Whitaker of Myrtle Beach, Kylie Deppen of Manhattan, NY, Josh Mull of Greenville, and Kristen Byers and Kailey White both of Jacksonville, FL; nine great grandchildren.

He was the last survivor of his immediate family.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Fowler were held July 2, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Regency Hospice, 880 S. Pleasantburg Drive Suite 1A, Greenville SC 29607.

WINFRED RALPH CURTIS

GREENVILLE — Winfred Ralph Curtis, 77, husband of Brenda Turner Curtis, died Friday July 3, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Winfred was born in Pickens County, son of the late Chris and Pauline Childress Curtis. He was owner and operator of Little Johns Upholstery in Greenville and attended Amazing Grace Fellowship Church in Pickens. Winfred was a U. S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Brenda, of the home, son, Brad Curtis (Starr) of Greenville and daughter, Dena Capps (Derrick) of Easley. Also surviving are grandchildren, Hannah Curtis, Dillon Capps, and Micah Curtis and brothers, Charles Curtis of Liberty, Wallace Curtis of Pickens, and Maurice Curtis of Greenville.

Services were held July 6, at Amazing Grace Fellowship, with Entombment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

CONNIE R. BARKLEY

EASLEY — Connie Ralph Barkley, 78, of Easley, SC passed from this life on Friday, July 3rd, 2015. He was the son of the late Hovie and Bessie Nix Barkley.

Connie retired from the Judson Plant of Milliken Mfg (Shop/AC technician).
He had also taught HVAC at Enoree Vocational School, worked with Honeywell, and was a US Navy Veteran.  He was a member of Georges Creek Baptist Church, and Keowee Lodge #79 A.F.M. Pickens.

Surviving: One daughter, Lynn Hall (John) and one son, Christopher, both of Easley Grandchildren: Daniel Hall (Emily), Allison Hall, and Haley Barkley
Siblings: One Brother, Kenneth Barkley (Geraldine) of Six Mile, and one Sister, Linda Fink (Duane) of Gilbert. He had several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barkley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel Alexander Barkley, five brothers: Henry, Guy, Andy, and James Barkley, and Hoyt Kytle; four sisters: Betty Watson, Ruby Ogg, Sadie Knott, and Fairo Mae Chapman.

Services were held July 7, at Dillard Funeral Home with funeral services following in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

HAZEL J. THOMAS

CENTRAL — Hazel Juanita Thomas, 82, of Central died Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Eulice Covie Thomas, Sr. and Nannie Ayers Thomas.  Hazel retired from Clemson University as an accounting clerk and later retired from SWU as Director of Faculty Services.  She was a longtime and active member of Mount Vernon Holiness Church in Seneca where she taught Sunday school and was a former director of the Holiness Association youth camp.

 Surviving are a sister-in-law, Barbara Thomas of Central; nieces and nephews, Beverly Moore, Buford Hedden, Donna Garrett, Teresa Reynolds, Ronnie Thomas and Rhonda Leopard; 13 great nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Eulice «Jack» Thomas, Jr, sister, Doris Hedden; and niece, Marla Rhoads; and nephew, Greg Thomas.

 Funeral services were held Tuesday July 7, in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, with burial following in Memory Gardens.

JOHNNY BOYD MARCHBANKS

EASLEY — Johnny Boyd Marchbanks, 57, of Easley, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2015.

He was the son of William Ralph Marchbanks and Etta Lesley Marchbanks.

He is survived by two brothers, William Tony Marchbanks and David Allen Marchbanks; and his two sisters, Elaine Dameron and Kathy Marchbanks. He is preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ross.

The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Carmel Presbyterian Church, 110 Carmel Church Road, Liberty, SC 29657.The family will receive friends at their respective homes.

RALPH TOWNES

PICKENS — Ralph Townes, 97, of Pickens, went to be with the Lord on Friday July 3, 2015.
He is survived by a son, Wade (Wanda) Townes, of Easley, a daughter, Nancy (Danny) Burrell, of Lake Toxaway, NC, three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Ola Crenshaw Townes, his parents, Thomas Wade and Nancy Gillespie Townes, two sisters, and two grandchildren.

A funeral was held on July 7, at Gilead Baptist Church. Interment was in the Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
