The Hagood Community Center received a $2,500 donation from Leadership Pickens County on Friday to help with renovations of the facility.

The site, originally known as Ben Hagood Elementary School, and before that Pickens Mill Elementary School, was leased to the city of Pickens in 1990. The site was operated by Seniors Unlimited until that organization ran into financial difficulties in 2011.

In 2011, the site became known as the Senior Center of Pickens, a nonprofit organization run totally by volunteers. Renovations on the building have included a new roof, windows, doors, exterior trim, gutters, walls, refinished floors, new exterior entrance, renovated restrooms and many other enhancements.

Additionally, SCOP constructed a replacement of the waste system for the kitchen.

The building is now 80 percent reconstructed, with most remaining work set for the auditorium. SCOP hopes to be completed in the next two years if funding can be found.
