COUNTY — Pree Hamilton appeared before Pickens County Council on Monday night to detail the needs of the Pickens County Humane Society.

Hamilton said she hopes to be elected president of the society and suggested several possible locations for a new site for an animal shelter.

Hamilton also said she had read about a school fundraiser with a principal kissing a pig. Hamilton suggested she could raise money with the same deal for members of county council kissing a pig for funds that would go to the humane society. Hamilton said the society would again be sponsoring a golf tournament this summer. Last year’s golf tournament raised $6,000.

Hamilton said the society’s funding would likely run out before the end of the year.

“We just need help,” Hamilton said.

While the hope is the build a new facility, Hamilton said improvements to the current facility are needed immediately.

Councilman Jeff Martin said if he had to kiss a pig, he’d prefer it wear lipstick.

Hamilton said she had yet to follow up on an earlier promise to knock on doors throughout the county because she has to spend time operating her own business.

Hamilton said right now she is just a concerned citizen, but if elected as president of the society, she would then “overstep my boundaries” a little more.
