PICKENS — After helping lead the Lady Blue Flame to back-to-back state championships, Pickens High School senior Davis Hendricks will be taking her game to the next level.

Hendricks signed Thursday to play her college volleyball at Southern Wesleyan University.

Hendricks said she just fell in love with the Central campus.

“It is a small campus, and the team was like a family and that is what I wanted,” she said. “I knew if I went to Southern Wesleyan I would be treated like I was part of a family.”

Hendricks, who has played volleyball since she was in second grade, said since she was a little girl she knew I wanted to play at the next level.

“My major will be in biology, and SWU’s biology program is amazing,” she said.

Hendricks gave credit to her foundation in the sport for helping her achieve her dream.

“If it wasn’t for Pickens, I would not be where I am today,” she said. “I started at the rec program, Pickens Middle School, and while I have been in high school I have been a part of two state championship teams.

“That, along with the instruction of Nikki and Peggy Anthony in summer leagues, has made me who I am by pushing me in hours and hours of practice with all the blood, sweat and tears.”

Hendricks said she plans to go to SWU and earn a spot and help win the conference.

“The school has just entered Division II, and they are competing well,” she said. “I want to be a part of them winning a conference title.”

Hendricks played club volleyball for Carolina One from the seventh to the 11th grade. She played on the Carolina One 17 Nationals club team that made it to the national championships in Minneapolis last summer.

Hendricks is currently ranked seventh in the senior class at Pickens High School and is a member of the Beta Club and FCA.
