Laurens scores early, often to spoil Easley senior night

EASLEY — Laurens showed why the Raiders are the Region I-5A champions Friday night, spoiling Easley’s senior night with a 63-29 beating and putting a disappointing end to the Green Wave’s season.

The Raiders were led by Shrine Bowl linebacker Duane Martin, a Louisville verbal commit. Martin broke up two passes, had a pressure that led to an interception, picked off a pass after tipping it to himself and blocked an extra-point kick. That’s not to mention the impact he made on offense, scoring a touchdown from the A-back position.

“He’s an incredible player,” Easley coach Caleb King said of Martin. “There’s a reason why he has multiple Division I offers. He’s committed to Louisville and is playing in the Shrine Bowl, and there is a reason for it.”

Easley (3-7, 2-5) was hoping for better results as 17 seniors played their last game as a Green Wave, but Laurens scored on the first five series of the game to take control in the first half.
