Local wrestlers begin season

COLUMBIA — Berkshire-Pickens Wrestling Club opened its 2015 USAW competitive season traveling to Lower Richland High School, where nine members placed in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions.

Intermediate wrestler Blake Chandler (65 lbs.) took a gold in Greco and silver in Freestyle. Wrestling at 75 lbs. novice, Trent Burdette took a silver and gold. In the schoolboy competition, Jack Brissey (160lbs) took a gold in Greco and moved a weight class and age division to garnish the silver in freestyle in cadet 170 lbs. competition. Wrestling at 112 lbs., Shyann Oglesby took a bronze in both styles.

Cadet wrestler Tre Smith (145 lbs.) also bronzed in both styles.

Four BPWC wrestlers competed in the junior division, with Devon Johnston (113 lbs.) taking two silvers, Matt Frey (145 lbs.) took a gold in Greco and silver in freestyle. Teammate Kyle Chrzynowski, also competing at 145 lbs.,. silvered in Greco and took the gold in freestyle. Club newcomer Dylan Perry took silvers in both styles competing at 220 lbs.

BPWC returns to action next week when it travels to a USAW-sanctioned event hosted at Laurens High School.

Oglesby selected to

compete in Oklahoma city

Shyann Oglesby will represent South Carolina at the USAW Girls Folkstyle Championships, to be held in Oklahoma City on March 28-29. An eighth-grader at Liberty Middle School, Oglesby will compete in the schoolgirl age division at 112 lbs.
