PICKENS — Pickens High School volleyball standout Laiken Porterfield signed on Monday to take her game to the next level, as she is heading to North Greenville University in the fall.

North Greenville will be getting a great player from one of the state’s premiere high school programs in PHS. In 2014, Porterfield had 314 kills, 23 blocks, 48 aces and 432 digs in the Blue Flame’s run to the AAA State Championship. A captain as a senior, Porterfield was a four-year starter at PHS and earned All-State and North-South All-Star honors last season.

“I am very proud,” Porterfield said. “It took a lot to get here. I love the facility at North Greenville and all the professors. I played with the volleyball team, and they felt like a family.”

Porterfield said she will miss being a Blue Flame, saying her time at Pickens High School has been amazing, and she plans to make an immediate impact at NGU.

“I plan to come in and make an impact,” she said. “I have actually played club volleyball for the North Greenville coach, Doug Mosley, so we know each other.”

Porterfield said she wanted to thank coach Jennifer Gravely, Nikki Anthony, coach Stan Butler and all her teachers at PHS for helping her along the way.

“Laiken is going to be missed,” Gravely said. “She has been a tremendous asset over the last four years. She is a wonderful player and a very hard worker. She will be hard to replace. She will do well at the next level. I will look forward to going over to North Greenville and seeing her play.”
