Running for a cause

The Red, White and Blue Flame 5k was a success July 2 on the campus of Pickens High School, with proceeds benefiting PHS athletics. Those who staged the race would like to thank the sponsors, volunteers and participants. Without their support, the race would not have been a success, organizers said. Zac Doneth of Easley earned the overall male winner’s medal with a finish time of 17:30, while Jennifer Fisher of Columbus, N.C., was the overall female winner with a finish time of 20:23. PICKENS — The Rotary Club of Pickens, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Poltava, Ukraine, is supplying an early childhood development facility in Poltava for IDP (internally displaced persons).

Easley man calls for election reform

EASLEY — An Easley resident is urging council to amend the city’s election system, to allow for the elimination of runoffs.

The former chairman of the Pickens County Republican Party, Rick Tate spoke at Easley City Council’s July 11 meeting, asking that Mayor Butch Womack and council “changing the way we do elections here in the City of Easley.”

“Go to the plurality scheme and do away with the runoff, the 50 plus one,” he said.

Easley gaining additional school resource officer
