DHEC warns of algal blooms
UPSTATE — With weather warming up, people on the water should be on the lookout for algal blooms.
Algae and cyanobacteria are tiny plantlike organisms that can overgrow under the right conditions, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). Family Promise to hold ‘Giving Day’
EASLEY — On Thursday, April 28, Family Promise of Pickens County will be celebrating National Family Promise Giving Day, a 24-hour online campaign to raise awareness and support for families battling homelessness.
Family Promise, the first homeless shelter in Pickens County, was founded in July 2012. Since August 2014, with the support of the community and partnership with congregations of the community, the organization has been providing services to homeless families with children at its Day Center, located at 104 Stewart Drive in Easley.

COUNTY — The Appalachian Council of Governments provides a variety of services and benefits to the citizens of Pickens County, according to the organization’s executive director.
ACOG executive director Steve Pelissier gave the organization’s annual update to Pickens County Council at its April 4 meeting.

City set to cancel Doodle program

PICKENS — Pickens’ police chief believes it’s time to end a pilot program that allowed golf carts on the Doodle Trail with a special permit.
The issue was discussed during Pickens City Council’s April 4 meeting.
