Textile company marks 175 years
Kentwool founded in 1843
PICKENS — As Pickens County celebrates its sesquicentennial this year, a local textile company has reached an even bigger 
milestone.
Kentwool hosted a gathering in honor of the company’s 175th anniversary last week.
Thomas Kent founded the company in Philadelphia in 1843. In 1954, operations moved to Pickens. Offices in Greenville soon followed. All Kentwool products are made in the United States.

PCSO warns against social media justice
PICKENS — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to think twice before they post about suspicious or criminal activity on social media accounts.
The agency issued a news release on the issue Tuesday afternoon.

Honoring Their Service escort to start at SWU
CENTRAL — The annual Honoring Their Service motorcade will have a new starting point this year.
Each year, U.S. Special Operations Command Marines ride in Jeeps from Pickens County to Keowee Key in Oconee County escorted by motorcycles to begin a much-deserved week of rest and relaxation.

Farley: County’s Upstate Alliance membership key

PICKENS — The executive director of Alliance Pickens says the money the county pays to belong a regional association of 
counties is well worth it.
“I think the $58,500 annual request of Upstate Alliance from Pickens County at this point is merited,” Ray Farley told county council members.

Smith signs to play at Chas. Southern

signed with Charleston Southern University as a preferred walk-on.

CLEMSON — Candidates for Pickens County Council’s districts 1 and 2 representing Clemson and Central tackled issues last week ranging from economic development to whether a water park in the county is feasible.

Liberty celebrates
Liberty held its annual Celebrate Liberty Spring Festival on Saturday in the downtown area. The event featured live music, vendors, fun and games for all ages, including a Memorial Weekend Honor Ride.

Y Piranha swimmers dive into competition
UPSTATE — The Pickens County YMCA Piranhas swim team got its competitive juices flowing recently at a home swim meet 
at the Pickens YMCA and at an away meet at the Anderson YMCA.
“I am very proud of all the swimmers,” said Larry McMahan, head coach of the Pickens County Piranhas swim team. “These swimmers have been working hard since the start of the summer season in early April and swam very well at both the Pickens and Anderson meets.”
