It seems it was just yesterday
No matter how many years go by — and they seem to be passing more quickly than they used to — the Thanksgiving memories that never fade are the ones from my childhood.
It was a time celebrated in that big old house of Grandmama’s, the same house where her parents had lived and where she and her brothers and sister had been born.
All her childhood, Thanksgivings were celebrated in the same dining room with her parents and brothers and sister around the same table around which we gathered.
The dishes we ate were traditional ones. She prepared, with the help of many hands, an array of food we all thought fit for kings.

Heartfelt thanks from Pickens coaching legend
On Nov. 11, Pickens High School held a dedication ceremony for the Coach Peggy Harden Anthony Gymnasium. I did not wish to conflict with 
Veterans Day parades and assemblies, but that date seemed to work best for everyone.
I believe having the ceremony on that date was God’s way to remind me to stay humble and know that the men and women who have served in our armed forces are the real heroes to be recognized, appreciated and honored for the dedication and sacrifices they have made for the freedom and security of all Americans. There is simply no comparison of coaching to that!

Ready to be accused of judging
Dear Editor,
If you have ever stood up against a wrong or perhaps will be in a position where you’ll have to someday, then be ready to be accused of judging sometimes.
You may make a statement about someone or even something wrong and receive an accusation of judging. Judging in this situation is defined loosely as looking down on someone or something.
What amazes me, though, is how one is accused of judging when only the

Newest phone scam: Social Security calls
If you see the number 1-800-772-1213 on your Caller ID, beware. Social Security has put out a warning about scams involving spoofed phone numbers. Scammers can make any numbers they want appear, even the 
number for the Social Security Administration!
Social Security is not likely to call you. They certainly won’t call you and ask you to verify your number (especially the new number on the card you were recently sent), or the bank where your automatic deposit is sent, or any other personal information. Social Security won’t call and threaten to take away your benefit if you don’t answer their questions, or tell you they can help get your benefits increased. Clusters for Kids
EASLEY — The fifth annual Clusters for Kids Oyster Roast was held on Nov. 10.
Community sponsors, supporters and the Friends of Pickens County Guardian ad Litem program gathered at Arran Farm for the festivities.
Serving as honorary chairs of the oyster roast were Sen. Rex Rice and his wife, Ruth.
Proceeds from the event went to the Friends of Pickens County Guardian ad Litem program, which has been providing holistic support to neglected and abused children since 2002. Over the past 10 years, the all-volunteer organization has raised more than $400,000 from significant fundraisers such as this year’s Clusters for Kids Oyster Roast.

The Pickens Lions Club has been serving the greater Pickens community since 1933. While its membership numbers have flexed over the years, one constant has remained — the club’s desire to help friends and neighbors in need. PICKENS — It’s that that time again — Winter Warmth 2018.

KATHY KELLEY REECE
CENTRAL — Kathy Kelley Reece, 68, passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, after a long illness, at her sister’s (Anita) home in Central.
Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lake Kelley and Ezelle Taylor Kelley and wife of the late Marvin Leroy Reece.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was retired as a machinist at Propex Fibers.
Survivors include two sisters, Anita Whitaker and Norma Lynn Kelley; two brothers, Colen Eugene Kelley and Keith Bud Kelley; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Doris Ramey and Mrs. Sue Smith. Mrs. Reece also leaves several nieces and nephews to share in her memory. In addition to her parents and

Daniel shocks defending state champions in double overtime

ROCK HILL — The Daniel High School football team racked up yards by the hundreds with ease throughout this fall, but on Friday night, the fate of 
the Lions’ season rested on three measly yards.
Those three yards were all that stood in the way of Daniel picking up the biggest win of third-year Lion coach Jeff Fruster’s career — a road victory against four-time defending state champion South Pointe in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
The Lions trailed the powerhouse Stallions for much of the night, but fought and clawed their way back to force the game into overtime. There, it all came down to one play.
