Allen Joe Adams

PICKENS — Allen Joe Adams, 40, passed from this life Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, Allen was the son of Joe Wallace and Elaine Finley Adams.

Survivors include his parents Joe and Elaine; two sisters, Amanda Adams of Anderson and Andrea Griffin (Trey) of Pickens; a niece, Gracie Griffin; and two nephews, Will Griffin and Adam Griffin.

Allen was predeceased by a brother, Joey Adams; maternal grandparents, Wallace Finley and Geneva Chapman Finley; and paternal grandparents, Lewis Columbus Adams and Lucy Anderson Adams.

Services were held Sept. 29 at Mountain View Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bob Dickard, Rev. Paul Welch and Rev. Rick Hayes.

Nettie Lou Bagwell

Easley — Mrs. Nettie Lou B. Bagwell, 92, wife of the late Haskell T. Bagwell, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Elijah Walker Bagwell and the late Leatha Mae Martin Bagwell, Mrs. Bagwell retired from Delta Woodside Mills with more than 30 years of service and was a true follower of Christ. She loved gardening and cooking, but her greatest love was her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Bagwell Church of Central; a brother, Elijah Bagwell (Melba) of Easley; a sister, Betty Cannon of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Sidney Church Jr., Katlyn Church, Jamie Bagwell and Kimberly Prince; and one great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bagwell was predeceased by a son, Michael Bagwell; and a grandson, Aaron Bagwell.

Graveside services were held Sept. 28 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Baptist Easley Hospital for the love and care they have provided for Mrs. Bagwell.

Bonnie Anderson

PICKENS — Bonnie Anderson, 88, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2018, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson after a brief illness.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Allen Anderson; father, Paul Medlin; mother, Ida Pace Medlin; sister, Wilma Roll; and brothers, Boyce and Wayne Medlin.

She is survived by daughters Jere Anderson Totman (John) and Debra Anderson Holden (Johnny); son Richard Anderson (Charlotte), four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Mountain Grove Baptist Church at noon, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a brief visitation following the service. Families are at their respective homes.

Aileen H. Holden

CLEMSON — Aileen Holladay Holden, 96, widow of Ralph Morgan Holden, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at her home in Clemson.

Born in Six Mile, she was a daughter of the late King Fedrick and Alice Hunnicutt Holladay. Aileen was a graduate of Asheville Teacher’s College and taught school for many years. She loved children and gardening and was an avid reader. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson.

She was survived by daughters Patsy H. Busch of Clemson, Sandra (Eddie) Reed of Greer, Elizabeth (David) Dunagin of Spartanburg and Cathy (Roger) Pendleton of Clemson; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special niece and caregiver, Carolyn Crowe; and many other nieces and nephews.

Aileen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by brothers Reece Holladay, Dave Holladay, Stiles (Bud) Holladay and Roddie Holladay; sisters Selma Smith, Drucilla Owen, Alice Holladay, Christine Hayes and Cordilla Holladay; and a son-in-law, Steve Busch.

The family would like to give special thanks to all her caregivers at Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Funeral services were held Oct. 1 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with Hospice Care of South Carolina chaplain Jeff Black officiating, followed by burial in Old Stone Church Cemetery.

Doris Garner

EASLEY — Doris Nealey Garner, 72, of Hitt Road, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Liberty, she was the widow of Thomas Joseph Garner and a daughter of the late Thelma Ramey Gantt. She was retired from the Easley City Police Department, where she worked in the detention center and also as a dispatcher. She loved watching South Carolina Gamecocks baseball games. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren. She attended Carolina Heights Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Loretta Garner and Rita Burgess (Greg) of Easley; a son, Joey Garner (Trish) of Easley; eight grandchildren, Nicole Guzman (Julio), Matt Childress (Cassandra), Megan Burgess, Trevor Madison (Morgan), T.J. Garner (Brittany), Emily Garner, Roman Garner (Bethanee) and Caleb Gravely; 12 great-grandchildren, Monica, Rose, Gracen, Abby, Rhett, Landen, Terry, Jaxton, Hayden, Brayden, Kaide and Owen; four sisters; one brother and a lifelong friend, Judy Brewington.

In addition to her husband and mother, she was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Gregory Burgess; two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Garner were held Sept. 29 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel, with burial following at Crossroads Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Mitchell Looper officiated the service.

David Lewis Tompkins

EASLEY — Mr. David Lewis Tompkins, 62, husband of Debbie Crowe Tompkins, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, the son of Mary Elizabeth Sisk Tompkins of Easley and the late Billy Gene Tompkins, Mr. Tompkins was a 1974 graduate of Easley High School and an inspector with BMW Manufacturing. He was a member of Potter’s Clay Fellowship, where he served as church treasurer.

David loved fishing, golfing, dove hunting and Clemson football, but most of all he loved his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 40 years, are a son, Dustin Tompkins (Kaitlin) of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Dawn Tompkins Miller (Jeremy) of Liberty; three sisters, Sherry Booth, Lori LaBrash (Paul), all of Easley, and Joni Harrison (Daryl) of Pickens; and three grandchildren, Haley Miller, Natalie Miller and Luca Tompkins. In addition to his father, Mr. Tompkins was predeceased by a sister, Robin Tompkins.

Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at Potter’s Clay Fellowship, 142 Grace Drive, Easley, SC 29640. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

Mary Sue Fraley

EASLEY — Mrs. Mary Sue “Squirt” Nance Fraley, 66, wife of Gary Fletcher Fraley, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

Born in Conway, the daughter of the late Donnie Winston Nance Sr. and the late Mamie Taylor Nance, Mrs. Fraley was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where she earned her master’s degree in education. She taught at Getty’s Middle School for many years and later taught at Easley High School, where she retired. Mrs. Fraley was a Shriner’s Daughter of the Nile and a member of Easley First Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 45 years, are a brother, Richard Nance (Julie) of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fraley was predeceased by three brothers, Marvin Nance, Joe Taylor and Donnie Nance Jr.

Memorial services were held Sept. 29 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Private burial will follow in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia.

Brooks Allen Carpenter

EASLEY — Brooks Allen Carpenter, 79, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, in Greenville.

Born in Augusta, Ga., he was the son of the late Jiles and Angie Gibson Carpenter and husband of Cheryl Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter retired from Roadway Trucking and was of Methodist faith; he also served his country in the United States Army Reserve. He coached little league baseball for many years and won the 75th Jr. Babe Ruth North Carolina State Championship.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; four sons, Mitchell Carpenter (Star), Michael Carpenter of Charlotte, Todd Rampey (Barnett) of Easley and Tim Rampey of Liberty; one daughter, Traci Littleton (Matthew) of Easley; and one sister, Martha Crawford and her husband, Emory, of Mocksville, N.C. Mr. Carpenter also leaves 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to share in his memory.

A memorial service was held Oct. 1 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel.

David L. Hight

EASLEY — David L. Hight, 65, husband of Wanda Hester Hight, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

David was born in Columbus, Ga., and was the son of the late Everett and Madeline Gaines Hight. He was a 1970 graduate of Easley High School and was retired from Michelin Tire-Sandy Springs Plant. He was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189 AFM, Hejaz Shriners and of the Baptist faith.

David was an avid guitarist, singer and golfer and loved his South Carolina Gamecocks.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 42 years, are his daughter, Jennifer Hight Whitmore (Everette) of Greenville; and his sister, Deborah H. Pinner of Anderson.

Funeral services were held Oct. 1 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with entombment following in the Robinson Memorial Gardens Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum, with Masonic Rites.

Active pallbearers were Larry Richardson, Tim Snyder, Mike Deck, Stan Duncan, Rodney Shirley and Jerry Baxter Jr.

Escorts of honor were the Hejaz directors staff.

David Stanley Rackley

EASLEY — Mr. David Stanley Rackley, 75, husband of Judy McNeely Rackley, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at his home.

Born in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late J.C. and Hazel Nations Rackley, Mr. Rackley was retired from Graham-Hodge Associates in Greenville after 20 years of dedicated service. He was a member and deacon of Park Street Baptist Church and the men’s Sunday school class. He enjoyed serving in his church and spending time in fellowship with his church family. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 50 years, are two daughters, Dawn Rackley Davidson (Ralph) of Round O, S.C., and Kayla Rackley Bell (Brandon) of Easley; grandchildren, Brittany Cunningham, Tymber Cooke, Hayden Williams, Chloey Bell and Conner Bell; and brothers, Mitch Rackley (Connie) of Kingsport, Tenn., and Danny Rackley of Belton.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rackley was predeceased by an infant son, David Stanley Rackley Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Park Street Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Virgil Charles Cantrell

PICKENS — Virgil Charles Cantrell, 81, husband of Catherine Thompson Cantrell, passed from this life Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.

Born in Pickens County a son of the late Carl and Mae Bell Dorsey Cantrell, he was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife Catherine of 60 years of the home; children, Susan (Don) Looper, Tim (Sherry) Cantrell and Rhonda Cantrell Owen, all of Pickens; grandchildren, Kelly (Wayne) Page, Jennifer (Jason) Kelly, Amber (Bryan) Crocker, Austin Cantrell, Andrea (Jaron) Fluty, Hillary (Landon) Page and Aaron (Cierra) Looper; great-grandchildren, J.T. Kelly, Kallum Page, River Crocker, Haydn Johnson, Bella Page, Opie Page, Kali Fluty, Kylie Looper and Carter Looper; and a sister, Kathleen Powell.

Mr. Cantrell was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Frank Cantrell, and a sister, Virginia Childs.

Visitation will be held from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, with memorial service to follow at 1 p.m.

Raymond Edward Payton

LIBERTY — Raymond Edward Payton, 79, husband of the late Nancy Ann Evans Payton, passed from this life Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Scioto County of Portsmouth, Ohio, Mr. Payton was a son of the late Ernest William Payton Sr. and the late Catherine Marie Scaggs Payton. He was a graduate of Wiley’s Barber School, a Mason and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his children, Carla Doll (Vince) of Liberty, Kim Lingenfelter of Seneca, Nina Stewart (Tony) of Easley, Mike Payton (Tina) of Liberty and Frank Payton (Susie) of Liberty; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Payton was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and a great-grandson, Christopher Michael Oglesby Jr.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jack Connelly. Burial will be at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home.

Dorcas E. Hollin

EASLEY — Mrs. Dorcas Elaine Parker Hollin, 85, wife of the late Joe Frost Hollin, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2018.

Born in Margate, Kent, England, the daughter of the late John Thomas Parker and the late Ivy Hilda Lillian Death Parker, Mrs. Hollin was a graduate of Thanet Community College and a retired bookkeeper from Hollin Machine Repair and Scraping. She was a member of the Botany Park Women’s Club, Daughters of the British Empire and Past Regent Red Coat Chapter. Mrs. Hollin was a member of The Church of the Redeemer.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Hollin Uldrick (Steve) of Pelzer; two sons, David John Hollin of Piedmont and Darryl Parker Hollin (Misty Ann) of Greenville; her grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, Tyler Frost Uldrick, Emily Elaine Uldrick Hall (Daniel), Sara Jean Hollin, Joe David Hollin and Ivy Anna Hollin; and her lifelong friends, Clara Parton, Debra, Amy and Kelley.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Family members are at their respective homes.
