ARTHUR JUNIOR GRUBBS III

PICKENS — Arthur Junior Grubbs III, 49, of Pickens, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 12, 2016.

He was the father of Arthur Junior “Alf” Grubbs IV and his daughter-in-law, Kayla Owens; and Joshua Grubbs; the grandfather of Gabriel Owens and Frenchesca Looney; and the husband of Lee Grubbs.

Arthur has gone to his heavenly home to join his parents, Arthur and Estelle Grubbs; brother, Carl; niece, Misti; and his nephews, Lee and Robert.

He will be joined someday at our Savior’s request by his sisters, Geraldine (Bert) Barnette, Faye (Robbie) Edens, Becky Elgin and June (Walt) Anders.

A graveside service was held March 16 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Mary Lib Singleton

Pickens — Mary Elizabeth Bivens Singleton, 89, wife of William C. “Billy” Singleton, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Mrs. Singleton was born in Pickens, daughter of the late Allen Watson and Kathleen Virginia Price Bivens. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mrs. Singleton loved to knit, work crossword puzzles, watch western movies and in earlier days play golf. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Billy Singleton of the home; daughters, Susan Singleton Houston (Terry Dean) of Easley, and Cynthia Kathleen “Cass” Singleton Smothers (Thomas Garland Smothers Jr.) of Bradenton, Fla.; Son, Henry Allen “Hal” Singleton (Lisa Aiken) of Pickens; Grandchildren, Edwin Scott Houston (Kathy) of Taylors, Victor Carlton Singleton (Cindy) of Greenville, Karen Ashley Houston of Charlotte, N.C., Trey Allen Singleton of San Francisco, Calif., Kenna Dillard (Mike) of Pickens, Todd Moore of Pickens and Brent Moore (Jennifer), also of Pickens; and great-grandchildren, Price Dillard, McKenzie Moore and Brayden Moore.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Singleton was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Bivens Dillard.

Services were held March 10 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens. Entombment will be private.

Nellie Inez Trull Herendeen

PICKENS — Nellie Inez Trull Herendeen, 84, passed away March 5, 2016, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

She was born in Greensboro, N.C., on May 18, 1931.

She is survived by three of her four children, Lynn Hoxit (Berles) of Pickens, Danny Trull (Alillian) of Greenville and Mary Jones (Joe). She was predeceased by David Trull (Jeannie) of Greenville.

Graveside services were held March 8 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Randel Putnam

Easley — Mr. James Randel Putnam Sr., 90, husband of the late Barbara Gillespie Putnam, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Archie Criswell and Clara Bell Harris Putnam, Mr. Putnam retired from Woodside Mill-Easley with 43 years of service and later retired from Peoples Bancorporation. He was an Eagle Scout. Mr. Putnam was a lifelong member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon and church treasurer, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII.

Surviving are a son, Jim Putnam (Beverly) of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a grandson, Clay Putnam (Natalie) of Greer; and a great-grandson, Gray Bennett Putnam. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Putnam was predeceased by a brother, Edward Putnam.

Funeral services were held March 11 at Geer Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. Phil McAlister officiating and burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors.

Weldon C. Albertson

Easley — Mr. Weldon C. Albertson, 73, of Easley, husband of Ruby Davis Albertson, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Born Aug. 15, 1942, in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Willard and Pearl Porter Albertson. He owned and operated Crown Ribbon Company in Easley for more than 35 years.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his brother, Vernell (Donna) Albertson; sister, Grace A. Blackston; brother-in-law, James “Jimmy” Suddeth; and special friend, Phyllis Lindsay.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, James and Wayne Albertson and sister, Nancy Albertson Suddeth.

Services were held March 12 in the Robinson Funeral Home Chapel Downtown, with eulogy offered by Barry Blackston, MD, and officiated by Rev. Justin Davis and Rev. John Brown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Evelyn M. Porter

Central — Evelyn Martin Porter, 73, wife of the late Robert Porter, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Rainey Hospice House.

Mrs. Porter was born in Pickens County and was a daughter of the late Fred W. and Christine Barrett Martin. She was retired from Westpoint Stevens as a sewing instructor and was a member of Wren Church of God.

Surviving are one son, Edrew (Theresa) Porter of Six Mile; a daughter, Melanie (Steven) Murray of Central, and an honorary daughter, Terri Carpenter; two brothers, William and Jerry Martin, both of Central; two sisters, Alice Moore of Westminster and Martha Black of Fair Play; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Martin, and a grandson, Robby Porter.

Funeral services were held March 15 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with burial following in Memory Gardens, Clemson.

Macie Marie Slatton

Pickens — Macie Marie Ellenburg Slatton, 72, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Mrs. Slatton was born in Pickens County, daughter of the late Glenney Lee and Clydes Adell Porter Ellenburg. She was a cook and worked in area restaurants, and she was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Durham (Vickie) of Pickens, Kenneth Dale Durham (Sandra) of Easley, and Tony Eric Durham of Pickens; and her daughter, Lisa Marie Thomas of Elberton, Ga. Also surviving are two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret H. Garrison

Greenville — Margaret H. Garrison, 76, of Greenville, passed peacefully Sunday, March 13, 2016.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Tulley Delores and Edith Inez Whitlock Holliday.

Margaret was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pickens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jimmy B. Garrison, who passed in 2002, and two sisters, Nancy Stewart and Carolyn Alexander.

She enjoyed crocheting and puzzle books and loved the Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by her son, Barry Garrison (Sheila) of Easley; daughters, Cindy Chapman of Easley, Beverly Roper of Pickens and Lisa Holliday (Steven) of Easley; sisters, Eloise Phillips of Easley and Pat Emmons of Easley; grandchildren, Brandon Reid, Ashley Chapman, Joshua Garrison, Justin Garrison, Alicea Foster (J.P.), Brittany Lark (Jeremy) and Bradley Holliday; step-grandson, Steve Crenshaw; step-granddaughter, Mandy Durham; great-grandchildren, Brantley Reid and Cohen Willimon; step-great-granddaughters, Jordan Carter, Gracie Nell Crenshaw, Kaley Chapman and Samantha Lollis; and step-great-grandson, Gregory Chapman.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown Chapel, 305 W. Main St., Easley, with Rev. H.C. Couch officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of Lisa and Steve Holliday.

Reverend Julian R. Leroy

Liberty — The Rev. Julian Ross LeRoy, 81, husband of Barbara Hawkins LeRoy, went home to be with The Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016.

Rev. LeRoy was born in Oconee County, the oldest of seven children to the late John T. and Ida Irene Sluder LeRoy. He was retired from Jacobs Chuck Manufacturing at Clemson and was a minister of the Gospel with The Church of God. Rev. LeRoy served the church in areas of evangelism, pastoral work and music. He held pastorates in Indiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas and formerly served Salem Church of God as pastor.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Barbara, of the home; brothers, Gene LeRoy (Glenda) of Juliet, Ga., J. T. LeRoy (Kathy) of Beech Island, the Rev. Doug LeRoy (Wanda) of Cleveland, Tenn.; and sisters, Velta Toole of Uvalda, Ga., and Linda Gale Ashley (Carl Dean) of North Augusta.

In addition to his parents, Rev. LeRoy was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Hand.

Services were held March 14 in the Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Pickens, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Rachel Kohler

Easley — Rachel Gore Kohler, 87, widow of Alfred G. Kohler, passed from this life Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Brookdale in Easley.

Mrs. Kohler was born in Sampson, N.C., a daughter of the late James Henry and Tempie Victoria Sinclair Gore.

Survivors include her son, James Griffin Kohler of Brussels, Belgium; her daughters, Fronie Victoria McCullen Bateman of Florida, Martha Elizabeth McCullen Dudley of Easley, and Jimmi Gail McCullen More of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Tempie Largen, Sarah Turnage, Rachel Davis, Frances Bryant and Thomas Dudley; seven great-grandchildren, Ava, Clara, Kinlaw, Olivia, Cece, JoJo and Clyde; and her faithful dog, Mitch.

No services will be held.

Ilean S. Jackson

Easley ­— Mrs. Ilean Simpson Jackson, 103, wife of the late Frederick Van Buren Jackson, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Dora Masters Simpson, Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a member of Holmes Memorial Church in Greenville. She was a former member of the Greenville Garden Club.

Surviving are a son, Frederick H. Jackson (Linda) of Easley; a daughter, Patricia Ilean Jackson Walker (Leroy) of Lakeland, FL; a sister, Elizabeth Plumtree of Glendale, CA; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two nephews and four nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jackson was predeceased by four brothers, Leonard, Milford, Edwin and R.T. Simpson

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery-West.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Hassie Lee Allen Underwood

Easley — Hassie Lee Allen Underwood, 49, of Easley, passed peacefully Monday, March 14, with her loving husband and family by her side.

Born in Easley to Garland Nean and Blenda Chastain Allen, she was the wife of Robert “Bobby” Underwood for four years.

Hassie worked as an administrative rep for BMW Manufacturing in Greer. She loved watching TV and was an avid DVR enthusiast. Hassie loved the beach, especially wearing flip-flops, enjoyed being around people, and admired the game of basketball, rooting for any team her twin sons played on.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hassie is survived by her sons, Spencer (Maria), Geer and Griffin; daughter, Carmen (Jonathan) and grandson, Jaxon, and granddaughter, Juleigh; sisters, Tammy (Danny) and nieces, Jessica, Brittany and Kayla; Tina (Blair) and nephew, Lucas, and niece, Christen; and Jennifer (Marlin) and nephews, Nathan and Aden; mother and father-in-law, Hilton and Debbie Underwood; brother-in-law, Mike (Karen); two dogs, Buster and Scruffy; and cat, Bella.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 17, at 2 p.m. in Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, with Rev. Blair Stewart officiating, with the assistance of Rev. Rudy Smith and Pastor Jermaine Connelly. Entombment will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum.

Family will receive friends from noon until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home.

Easley — John Fred Cassell, 92, formerly of East 2nd Ave., passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late John Ervin Cassell and Lucy Morgan Cassell.

Mr. Cassell loved walking, bowling, playing pool and dancing at the Pickens Senior Center.

Surviving are a sister, Ollie Powell of Greer, a brother, Edward Cassell of Hagerstown, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Martha Freeman, Clovie McCall and Bessie Boggs; and brothers, Ernest, Grady, Luther and Carl Cassell.

Funeral services were held on March 11 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
