RONNIE BURL RAMEY

EASLEY — Ronnie Burl Ramey, 71, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019.

Born in Pickens, he was the son of the late Cracker Jack and Nannie Mae Ramey, and husband of Linda Ramey.

Ronnie was a member of Rock Springs Baptist church and loved restoring old cars, working in his yard and spending time with his amazing grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Linda, of 51 years; two daughters, Kimberly Dickard (Russell) and Stephanie Owens (Ryan), both of Easley; and three grandchildren, McKayla Dickard, Grayson Owens and Garrison Owens.

In addition to his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 20 at Dillard Funeral Home, with Dr. David Gallamore officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

ALLENE P. SURRETT

EASLEY — Mrs. Allene Porter Surrett, 89, wife of the late James Lytle Surrett, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late William Earl Porter and the late Lizzie Durham Porter, Mrs. Surrett served as manager of Rayless Department Store until closing and was the retired owner and operator of Buck’s Drive-In.

She was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church.
Allene loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Surviving are her son, Lesley P. “Les” Porter (Tammie) of Liberty; two brothers, Troy Porter (Sara) of Central and Leland Porter (Virginia) of Easley; a granddaughter, Rebecca Porter Cochran (Brook) of Greenville; and one great-grandson, Walker Cochran.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Surrett was predeceased by two sisters, Reubenia Smith and Catherine Roberts.

Cryptside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday in the mausoleum, prior to the service.

TOMMY WOOD

PICKENS — Thomas Henry “Tommy” Wood, 56, passed from this life on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at his home.

Tommy was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Norman Henry and Gladys Alexander Wood. He attended Prater’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his siblings, Norma Jean Morgan (Joe) of Pickens, Ronald L. Wood (Ann) of Sharpsburg, Ga., Nancy C. Tallman of Pickens, Betty W. Pilgrim (Garland) of Six Mile, Becky W. Lavigne of Liberty and Debra L. Simmons (Steve) of Liberty; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Aug. 16 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

KATE “RUTH” DURHAM

SIX MILE — Ruth Durham, 96, wife of the late Hoied Joseph Durham, passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Mrs. Durham was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Annie Simmons Durham. Ruth Durham was the embodiment of joy, she believed in Jesus first, family second and herself last, and you could tell this by the way she took care of her family and her home. She was a member of Mile Creek Baptist Church and was known to enjoy fishing and as a good cook.

Survivors include her children, Nancy (Tom) Holcombe of Six Mile, Wayne (Linda) Durham of Marietta, Morris (Shirley) Durham of Liberty and Glenn (Teresa) Durham of Marietta; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Ray Longenecker and Rev. Chad Watson. Burial will be at Mile Creek Baptist Church.

CHARLES “ED” EDWARD HUDSON

PICKENS — Charles “Ed” Edward Hudson, 84, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, in his home.

Born in Pickens, he was the son of the late Edward Guy and Della Moore Hudson and husband of Bethel Hudson.

He was retired from Alice Manufacturing and was a farmer all his life. Also, he was a past member of the Cove Creek Beagle Club and was very loved by his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Bethel Hudson; two sons, Bruce “Eddie” Edward Hudson (Tina) of Easley and Patrick Allen Hudson (Deborah) of Central; one daughter, Lisa Stewart (Brian) of Sunset; two brothers, Jerry Hudson and Carroll Hudson (Carol) of Pickens; and two sisters, Florence Childress of Easley and Judy Stokes (Doug) of Easley. Charles also leaves seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to share in his memory.

He was predeceased by a brother, David Hudson; two sisters, Florene Cobb and Jean Tinsley; and two grandchildren, Kelli Hudson and October Hudson.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 14 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

JENNIFER MAXINE EMERSON

LIBERTY — Jennifer Maxine Emerson, 59, passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, in her home in Liberty.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Glen Rodney Russell and Virginia Lee Meacham.

Jennifer was very loved by her family and had a passion for rescuing animals. She was a loving mother and took pride in being a very hard worker. She won the hearts of everyone she met and was generous to all.

Survivors include three sons, Jeremy Lee Emerson of Liberty, Michael Tory Emerson (Lindsay) of Liberty and John Finley Emerson (Christianna) of Pickens; five brothers, Glen E. Wilder (Ann) of Stevenson, Va., Terrence R. Russell (Nena) of Pittsboro, N.C., Timothy Ronald Russell of Panama City, Fla., Thomas R Russell (Karen) of Amelia, Ohio, and Jeffrey Michael Russell ( Jeanne) of Pickens; a sister-in-law, Vivian Russell; three grandchildren, Jordan Emerson, Triston Emerson and one that is on the way; and 17 nieces and nephews, Hanna, Amy, Catherine, Michelle, Vanessa, Sherry, Tommy, Heath, Matt, Casey, Jason, Glen Wilder Jr., Joe, Randy, Jeffrey L., Jack and D.J.; and her dog children, Sadie, Lily and Piper, to share in her memory.

Jennifer was predeceased by a brother, Donald L. Russell, and her life partner, John C Brock.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 16 at Dillard Funeral Home.

RUTH MCALISTER FISHER

CENTRAL — Ruth Smith McAlister Fisher, 85, of 374 Mountain View Drive, died on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at AnMed Health in Anderson.

Born in Central, she was the daughter of the late Clyde W. and Ida M. Nix Smith. She was retired from Garrett’s Department Store and enjoyed spending time with her family as well as working word puzzles and shopping. She was a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Paul McAlister (Cathey) of Pendleton, Keith McAlister (Janet) of Norris and Freddie McAlister of Central; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Jimmy C. McAlister; her second husband, Everett J. Fisher; and two sisters, Ruby Richardson and Aileen Wheeler.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Fisher were held on Aug. 15 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

CLAYTON ALFRED WOOD JR.

SUNSET — Alfred Wood, 67, husband of Suzanne Rhodes Wood, passed from this life on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, Alfred was a son of the late Clayton Alfred Wood Sr. and the late Betty Owen Wood. He loved the outdoors, especially when he was able to go bear hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne R. Wood of 46 years of the home; two sons, Clay Wood (Beth) of Pendleton and Josh Wood (Wendy) of Liberty; eight grandchildren, Tori Wood, Taylor Wood, Tyler Wood, Jacob Wood, Caleb Wood, Emma Swaney, Jaylee Swaney and Stone Swaney; two sisters, Nancy Bouler (Curt) of Turtletown, Tenn., and Patsy Smith (Hub) of Sunset; and a brother, Richard Wood of Saluda.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Jerry Wood.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 15 at Antioch Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Barry Pace. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, and Alfred’s Masters Grocery friends will serve as honorary escorts — Weston Hiott, Wayne Johnson, Tommy Burgess and Junior Chapman.

The family asks for flowers to be omitted and memorials be made to Antioch Baptist Church Youth Fund, 721 Eastatoee Creek Road, Sunset, SC 29685.

HELEN CARON

LIBERTY — Helen Mary Caron, 94, of 117 Bracken Court, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Pruitt Health and Rehab.

Born in Boston, Mass., she was the widow of Rene A. Caron and a daughter of the late Antonio and Domenica Spano Quatrale.

She was a homemaker and the last survivor of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, David Caron (Julia) of Liberty; two grandsons, Brad Caron (Christy) and Todd Caron (Neysa); and six grandchildren, Trenton, Sophia, Meadow, Carter, Mason, and Sawyer.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, John W. Caron and Steven John Caron; two sisters, Anna Millette and Josephine Carr; and a brother, Phillip Quatrale.

ROGER DALE DAVIS SR.

PICKENS — Roger Dale Davis Sr., born Aug. 11, 1944, to the late R.L. and Mamie Sue Davis, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 18, 2019.

Roger was a mechanic and drove a truck for many years. He was a generous, loving man who adored his family and loved camping.

He is survived by his sons, Roger Dale Davis Jr. (Melanie) and Shane Willis (Beth). He also leaves behind his grandson, the light of his life, Brandon Davis (Macy) and their children, Della and Gatlin, and his little buddy, Curly Joe.

He was predeceased by his wife, Della Davis; two twin girls; his sister, Nancy Sue Patrick; and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Receiving of friends and family was held at Roger Jr’s home.

JAMES HARRISON GRAVLEY

PICKENS — James H. Gravley, 63, passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Paul and Helen Stewart Gravley. Jimmy was a member of Fairview Independent Baptist Church. He loved his church, fishing and his family.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Amanda (Barry) Tallman of Pickens, Jessica (Beau) Taylor of Pickens, Jonathan (Jessica) Gravley of Pickens, Ashlee (Jared) Thompson of Fountain Inn and Jacob Gravley of Pickens; grandchildren, Landon, Lauren, Breanna, Brady, Brinley, Shelby, Emilee and Robert; a brother, Greg (Judith) Gravley; and a sister, Donna (Randy) Cantrell.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Fairview Independent Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at noon, officiated by Pastor David Lambert and Pastor Don McQueen. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

HERMAN D. MASTERS

EASLEY — Herman David Masters, 81, passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital Downtown.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late R.J. and Leurinee Massingale Masters.

Mr. Masters was retired from Alice Manufacturing after 40-plus years of dedicated service.

Following retirement, he was employed with Cannon Roofing at the Oconee Nuclear Station. He was a member of Arial Baptist Church and was a member of the Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189 A.F.M. He also retired from and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army National Guard following a 40-year career.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Wadean Freeman Masters; his children, Roger Masters (Kim) of Pickens, Donna Owen (Mike) and Larry Masters, all of Easley; grandchildren, Kayla Rampey (Dustin), Jessie Gillespie (Darren), Nicholas Owen, Jeremy Owen (Niki), Brandon Masters (Haley), Justin Masters, Savannah Masters, Braedon Masters and Tara Bell; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Lynn Masters; a son, Stephen “Steve” David Masters; and a brother, Roy Masters.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with a funeral service to follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
