RACHEL W. PERKINS

LIBERTY — Mrs. Rachel Whitaker Perkins, 77, wife of the late Franklin William Perkins, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Ben Franklin and Lula Smith Whitaker, Mrs. Perkins retired from textiles.

Surviving are two sons, William Marvin Perkins of Liberty and Terry Dee Perkins of Cateechee; a daughter, Tina Creasman of Clemson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Perkins was predeceased by two brothers, Ben Franklin Whitaker and Martin Whitaker; and a sister, Lillie Mae Smith.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Margaret Muriel Hutton Oglesby

SENECA ­— Margaret Muriel Hutton Oglesby, 88 of 109 E. North 2nd St., went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017.

She was born Oct. 15, 1928, to the late Ivan and Hazel Lee Mintz Hutton Sr. in Norfolk, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hamilton Oglesby Sr., and two brothers, Ivan S. Hutton Jr and Thomas S. Hutton.

She is survived by two sons, Charles (Kathy) Oglesby of Seneca and Paul (Gina) Oglesby of Seneca; six grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Oglesby of Seneca, Heather (Jonathan) Elliott of Seneca, Lauren O. Wriston of Seneca, Lindsay (Brandon) Mitchell of Anderson, Orry Oglesby of Seneca and Avery (Jarrad) Holcombe of Walhalla; and six great-grandchildren, Brynn and Karis Wriston of Seneca, Robby Harrell and Braxton Elliott of Seneca, and Brianna and Karli Mitchell of Anderson.

The family received friends on Aug. 20 at the Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home in Seneca, followed by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery with Dr. C. Von Reynolds officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity or organization of one’s choosing.

THOMAS “WADE” TOWNES

EASLEY — Thomas “Wade” Townes, 67, of Easley, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Townes; his daughter, Jennifer Belk Foley; his sister, Nancy Townes (Danny) Burrell; and his three grandchildren, Jordan, Cody and Jaxson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Belk Townes; and his parents Ola Mae Crenshaw Townes and Ralph Kirksey Townes.

Wade was known as a front-end alignment specialist at the local Ford dealership for more than 39 years.

Services were held Aug. 18 at Gilead Baptist Church, with burial following at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gilead Baptist Church.

MARTHA S. BOARD

PICKENS — Martha Shuler Board, 76, wife of the late Joseph William Board, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Martha was born in Holly Hill on Dec. 29, 1940, to the late William O’Bryan and Elise Hamlin Shuler. Mrs. Board was a graduate of Holly Hill High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she served as the church organist for over 25 years.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph O’Bryan Board (Laurie) of Huntsville, Ala., and Bruce Evans Board of Pickens; a daughter, Susan Amy Board Stemper (Jim) of Clemmons, N.C.; a brother, William F. Shuler (Elsie) of Wake Forest, N.C.; a sister, Ann Shuler McCoy (William) of Anderson; five grandchildren, Stephanie Elizabeth Board, Kourtney Susan Board, Jack Larson Stemper, Marion Elizabeth Board and Shuler Rose Stemper; and one great-grandchild, Aaron Thomas Board.

Memorial services were held Aug. 20 at Grace United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the music program of Grace United Methodist Church, 309 E. Cedar Rock Street, Pickens, SC 29671 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Hospice of the Upstate and Manna Transitional Care for the love and care they provided for Mrs. Board.

ALVIN L. DUNCAN

EASLEY — Alvin Lee Duncan, of Heath Circle, won his battle and went to be with his Lord and Savior Aug. 16, 2017.

A member of Georges Creek Baptist Church, he was a member of the Abundant Life Sunday School class and served on several church committees through the years and also served as a deacon. Alvin was a founding member of the Crosswell Fire District Board of Governors, where he served as treasurer. The vision he had for the Crosswell community came to fruition. In 2017, the board of governors bestowed the great honor to him of naming the Crosswell Fire Station the Alvin Lee Duncan Fire House.

After serving as a South Carolina state constable, Alvin was a reserve sheriff’s deputy with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Officer for 15 years and was awarded the honor of being named Reserve Officer of the Year on three different occasions.

Alvin’s love for community service also showed through while serving as Worthy Patron of the Easley Chapter No. 200 Order of the Eastern Star, being a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Bates Lodge No. 189, and a member of the Hejaz Temple of the Shriners.

Having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict, Alvin retired from an electrical distributing company. He went on to found Foothills Process Serving Company, which he owned and operated for many years.

Alvin never met a stranger and was always there for those who needed a helping hand or just someone to listen. He loved his Lord, his church family, his family and traveling dearly. Many memories were made with his wife of 53 years, Nancy Robertson Duncan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, LeAnn Fulmer (John) of North Augusta, Julie Duncan of Easley and Janet Myers of Atlanta; grandchildren, Austin Fulmer (fiance Deanne Wirth) of North Augusta, Mallory Fulmer of Clemson and Katherine Myers of Atlanta; sister, Bonnie Brookshire (Alvin) of Taylors; and many loving and devoted nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends, along with brother-in-law Charles Robertson (Venice) of Easley.

Alvin was predeceased by his father, Thomas Leroy Duncan, his mother, Lena Pearl Duncan, and two sisters, Lorene Hall and Mildred Vaughn.

A special thank you to the Crosswell Fire Department, Pruitt Health Hospice, Dr. Steve Freeman and loving friends and family for their loving care and thoughtfulness.

Funeral services were held Aug. 20 at Georges Creek Baptist Church, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

PICKENS — Geneieve E. Farrell, 77, wife of the late Bobby Farrell, passed from this life Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Irene Evette, a member of Griffin Baptist Church, she found joy and contentment in serving her Lord in her church. Mrs. Farrell also ministered to others by visiting shut-ins, and to her family as she enjoyed cooking homemade meals for them.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Rev. Stewart) Hendricks and Diane (Rev. Robert) Fowler of Easley; grandchildren, Andy (Susanna) Fowler of Liberty, and Jacob Fowler and Matthew Hendricks of Easley; a great-grandchild, Jase Fowler; two sisters, Leola Pace (Grover) of Pickens and Pauline Ellenburg of Easley; and a sister-in-law, Doris Evette of Pickens.

Mrs. Farrell was predeceased by her parents, her husband, an infant son, a brother, Dwight Evette, and a brother-in-law, Tony Ellenburg.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Griffin Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Burnshausen, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

MICHAEL S. JONES

LIBERTY — Mr. Michael Scott Jones, 45, husband of Lynne Williams Jones, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017.

Born in Pickens County, the son of Joseph Edward and Mandy Arnold Jones of Pickens, Mr. Jones was employed with Alice Manufacturing with 29 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 26 years and his parents, are a daughter, Brandi Jones Bigham (Cody) of Six Mile; a brother, Eddie Jones of Pickens; a sister, Sandra Jones Czarnick of Pickens; and one grandchild, Sawyer Mason Bigham.

The family received friends Aug. 19 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

MATTIE N. ANDERSON

PICKENS — Mattie Norris Anderson, 90, widow of Walter Elijah Anderson passed from this life on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017.

Mrs. Anderson was born in Abbeville County a daughter of the late William Rollie and Myrtle Maness Norris. She was retired from Southern Weaving in Easley and she was a member of Glassy Mountain Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Donnie J. Anderson (Paula) of Easley, and four grandchildren, Ricky, Tommy, Sandy and Susan.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by a son, James R. Anderson, granddaughters, Tina and Kim, and four sisters.

Services were held Aug. 20 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

ELIZABETH W. MARTIN

LIBERTY — Elizabeth Whitlock “Leah” “Lib” Martin, 93, formerly of Liberty, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at National Healthcare in Anderson.

Born in Liberty, she was the widow of Clayton Martin and a daughter of the late Luther and Tallie Gillespie Whitlock.

Mrs. Martin retired from Swirl of Easley after many years of service. She was a long-time member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She was a delight to all her many nieces and nephews, and she befriended everyone she met.

Surviving are two sisters, Evelyn McAlister of Pendleton and Sara Perry of Liberty; and a brother, Harold Whitlock of Easley.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Martin were held Aug. 20 at Flat Rock Baptist Church, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park

 MARTHA STANCIL

LIBERTY — Martha Ann Smith Stancil, 80, of 1005 Robinson Bridge Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Pendleton Manor in Greenville.

Born in Six Mile, she was the widow of Melvin Eugene Stancil and a daughter of the late Charles Leonard and Ethel Merck Smith. She retired from JP Stevens’ Clemson plant and was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Grace Hedden of Donalds and Gretta Hawkins of Travelers Rest; a son, Ronald Stancil of Liberty; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Stancil were held Aug. 22 at Gap Hill Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.

DENNIS GERALD ROACH

PICKENS — Dennis Gerald Roach, 60, of Pickens, passed away on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at Cottingham Hospice House of Seneca.

Born on Oct. 7, 1956, he was the son of Mr. Frank M. Roach and the late Mrs. Louise Turner Roach. Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah Williams Roach; stepmother, Joyce Roach; two sons, Brian Roach (Tiffany) and Jeremy Roach; one stepdaughter, Shawna Young (Tony); one stepson, Anthony Williams (Tanya); three sisters, Debra Masters, Shirley Sloan and Missy Aiken (Bobby); four sisters-in-law, Sherry Gallman (Paul), Jackie Tollison (Ken), Karen Trammell and Lois Burgess; and eight grandchildren, Zach, Grace and Ries Williams, Taylor and Alex Cowan, and Brittany, Danielle and Ethan Roach.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Open Praise Fellowship in Easley, 605 W. 2nd Ave., Easley, SC 29640.

THERESA ELAINE. MORGAN

LIBERTY — Theresa E. Morgan, 62, passed from this life Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Betty Reece and the late Calvin Mann.

Survivors include her mother; two daughters, Tonya Woody (Brad) of Pickens and Stephanie Vinson (Brandon) of Liberty; grandchildren, Hanna Woody, Sydney Woody, Ashton Woody, Savannah Vinson and Anslee Vinson; a brother, Calvin “Buck” Mann III; and sisters, Linda Mann Harrison, Debra Mann Latour and Tina Mann Epps.

Theresa was predeceased by her father, a daughter, Kimberly Chapman, and a brother, Steve Mann.

A graveside funeral service was held Aug. 19 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens conducted by the Rev. Greg Phillips.

CECIL H. MASON

EASLEY — Mrs. Cecil Elizabeth Holder Mason, 89, wife of the late John Paul Mason, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017.

Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Essie Camilla Boyd Holder, Mrs. Mason retired from Mayfair Mills Glenwood Division and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Steve Mason (Lisa) of Easley, Stanley Mason (Vicki) of Liberty, and Larry Mason (Vanessa) and Harry Mason (Kathy), all of Easley; a brother, Furman Holder (Joyce) of Easley; a son-in-law, Bill Stratton of Marietta, Ga.; a special niece, Joyce Ann Holder of Easley; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mason was predeceased by a daughter, Ann M. Stratton; and a brother, W.C. Holder.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Pendleton Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church, prior to the service.
