PICKENS — For the first time since the unexpected death of site manager Ed Bolt last month, the Hagood Mill will open this Saturday, hosting a day of milling, music and memories from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bolt, affectionately known as “Eddie” by those who knew and loved him, will be remembered as the mill’s Music in the Mountains 2014 series kicks off.

A memorial celebration in honor of Bolt is still in the planning stages, but friends and supporters, both old and new, are encouraged to bring guitars, fiddles, spoons, voices or other musical instruments to take part in a jam in Bolt’s memory Saturday.

Other than monthly Third Saturday events the mill site remains closed until further notice as officials continue their search for a new site manager. Until then, however, locals are invited to continue to visit the site to enjoy it as a park for hiking, picnicking and sightseeing.

The Music in the Mountains 2014 series is sponsored by a private benefactor.
