volleyball team had an away match at Wren, where they defeated the Hurricanes 3-0 by scores of 7, 16, 12.

The Lady Flame, as a team served 96 percent, led by Kaylee Gillespie, Sydney Bolding and Ali Pace, 19, 17, and 12 respectively.  Bolding led in the team in kills with 13, followed by Lexi Wierzbicki with 9 and Abigail Durham with seven.

Gillespie recorded 23 assists in the match. Wierzbicki recorded 14 digs, while Bailee Earnhardt had eight, Savannah Noblitt had 6 and Durham had 5. The PHS JV’s also defeated Wren

by scores of 25-17, 25-17.

Then, on Thursday, the Lady Flame traveled to Walhalla to face the Razorbacks in their second conference match of the season. Pickens defeated Walhalla 3-0 by scores of 13, 6, 12.

“Walhalla had a couple of tall players and a scrappy libero,” Lady Flames coach Rikki Owens said. “But they were no match for the Lady Flame that night.”

The Lady Flame were led in blocks by Bolding, Wierzbicki and Olivia Dow, with 4, 3 and 2 respectively. Wierzbicki, Earnhardt and Sabrina Stewart led in digs with 9, 7 and 4 respectively.

Pickens was also led in serves by Bolding with 19 and three aces. Wierzbicki served 13 times with six aces and freshman Earnhardt served 11 with five aces. Wierzbicki led the team in kills with 12, including an 85.7 percent kill efficiency. Bolding and Durham both had 75 percent kill efficiency with nine and six kills respectively. Gillespie recorded 15 assists and Earnhardt recorded five.

“We played great and the girls had fun on the court,” said Owens. “Everyone got to play again.  I like it when we can empty our bench.”

PHS JV’s were also triumphant on the night defeating Walhalla by scores of 25-14 and 25-10.

PHS looked to take a clean sweep of conference matches for the week as they faced BHP on Monday. The Lady Flame won 3-0 by scores of 11, 14 and 21. The JV’s also won, taking the game 2-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-9.

On Wednesday, Pickens faces another huge challenge as Daniel travels to Pickens High School in battle of undefeated region foes. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m., while varsity starts at 7. The Lady Flame varsity will also compete in the Dorman Tournament of Champions on September 21-22.  Times will be announced later.
