Landfill may reach capacity next year

EASLEY — Pickens County Council will likely need to make a decision on the future of the county’s construction and demolition debris landfill sooner rather than later.

“Our tonnage at the landfill is at all-time high,” county administrator Gerald Wilson told county council members recently. “We’ve seen an increase of 20 to 25 percent over the last year, which means our capacity is shrinking faster than we thought it would originally.”
