LIBERTY — When they arrived at work on January 2, employees at the Liberty Recycling Center found a mess.

More than 300 bags of garbage were found piled up outside the gate at the center, partially blocking the driveway. The center had been closed for the New Year’s holiday.
Deputies from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and began an investigation, which has led to illegal dumping charges being brought against 17 individuals so far. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
