It’s a traditional gift to everyone who comes to the tiny old church, and everyone is invited.

For more than three decades, since the abandoned frame chapel was restored by Georgia Chapman in the early 1980s, the old-time pageant, with Mary and Joseph and the Baby Jesus, the angels, shepherds and wise men, the harmonica player and country-bred singers with the classic Sunday School piano, has offered its time-honored message. Long

Boy Scout Troop 51 enjoys 78th birthday

PICKENS — November ushered in the 78th birthday of Pickens Boy Scout Troop 51, and the troop celebrated in typical fashion with a chili supper during a weekend campout.

Lodge pots filled with chili, cornbread and s’mores cooked under the campfire coals while the boys and their families laughed, played football and reminisced about their years in the troop. Since its inception, the troop has been a positive influence in the lives of hundreds of young men, including current Scout Master Perry Gravely, who himself became an Eagle Scout with Troop 51 in 1975.

Invited to the celebration were the members of the Pickens Lions Club,

No party is complete without a cheese platter, and when I think of cheese my mind goes to compotes, especially during the holidays.

Compotes are flavorful and compliment many varieties of cheeses. Not only are they good as an appetizer, but also make a great snack for winter afternoon football games on TV, watched with friends.

You may not like all of these, but odds are you will, so enjoy.
