SDPC still working to feed kids
COUNTY — The School District of Pickens County is still offering breakfast and lunch Monday 
through Friday for anyone under the age of 18 and special needs adults up to age 21.
The meals are available from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Central Academy of the Arts, Chastain Road Elementary in Liberty, Dacusville Elementary, McKissick Academy of Science and Technology and West End Elementary in Easley and Pickens Elementary.
In addition, meals are available at the same time at churches around the county, including Shady Grove
SWU changes spring graduation
CENTRAL — Southern Wesleyan University has remained student-focused and open for business by temporarily converting all of its on-site classes to online and has now announced changes to graduation.
Due to concerns related to the COVID-19 outbreak and federal and state bans on larger groups meeting together, Southern Wesleyan University will be creating a variety of commencement opportunities for prospective spring graduates, including converting the already established May 8 graduation ceremony on its Central campus to a virtual event.

SWU easing student financial burdens
CENTRAL — Because of increased COVID-19 disruption to campus residential life, Southern Wesleyan University has taken quick measures to alleviate financial burdens on students.
The university recently issued meal plan rebates to students as compensation for missed meals during the remaining part of the spring semester. Students whose accounts are already paid in full will receive an immediate check. For those with an outstanding balance, the rebate will be applied to reduce or eliminate any debt they were carrying when the campus closed to most residents at the end of

• DAR golf tourney canceled in Easley
Due to concerns associated with the coronavirus, the Tamassee DAR School Golf Tournament planned April 21 at Smithfields Country Club in Easley has been postponed until Sept. 29. Visit tdarschool.org for a player registration form and additional information regarding the tournament.

Governor issues ‘home or work’ order
COLUMBIA — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued a mandatory statewide “home or work” 
order Monday in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The order took effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday and permits travel including commuting for work, visiting family and obtaining essential goods or services. The order will not impact residents’ ability to exercise outdoors or go for a walk as a family, but says everyone should act responsibly and practice social distancing and proper personal hygiene.

DHEC: County may have dozens more virus cases
COLUMBIA — Pickens County had 20 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus as of Monday afternoon, but the county could actually have nearly seven times that many cases undiagnosed, according to state officials.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 183 new cases of the virus across the state on Monday, including the two latest cases that bumped Pickens County up to 20, but a ZIP code breakdown showed nearly 160 possible cases in the county.
“These estimated counts represent those who are potentially undiagnosed,” DHEC said on its website. “By including estimates, we hope to better convey more meaningful information about the risk of disease spread in our community. We encourage everyone to continue to take action to protect themselves and those they love.”
