Will we follow God or the world?

Christians are accountable to love and pray for their family, and friends, and against evil everywhere, but unfortunately, many have lost the enthusiasm and the burden to ask God to set them on fire for His glory.

If Christian leadership is afraid to declare war against Satan and evil strongholds and principalities, how can they be inspired or have the faith to become a living sacrifice for God? When there is no difference between a spiritually blind world and those who claim to be God’s front-line warriors, society falls deeper into spiritual

Maximizing your meals when the larder is empty

I learned of a neighborhood group, six seniors, who are trying to keep themselves fed against all odds. They’ve come up with a brilliant plan: At the end of each week they pool whatever foods they have left over and have dinner together. They split the leftovers to take home.

The woman who told me about this talked about a website she discovered where all manner of ingredients could be entered, with the machine scouting the internet for recipes that could be created using those ingredients.

Whoever created the SuperCook website (www.supercook.com) did a fantastic job. Meats, grains, fruits, vegetables,

SC Old Time Fiddlers Convention planned Saturday at Hagood Mill

South Carolina State Fiddling Championship will be decided

PICKENS — As autumn approaches and the leaves turn their brilliant colors, it signals the time for fiddle music in the mountains.

This Friday and Saturday, old-time music will fill the hills and hollers around Hagood Mill as the historic site hosts the S.C. Old Time Fiddlers Convention. Some of the best musicians from around the Southeast will gather to compete in a variety of categories, with the top fiddler being named South Carolina’s state fiddling champion. The traditional contest goes back to the 1920s, when Clemson University opened the doors of stately Tillman Hall to the local musicians of the nearby South Carolina mountains for a music competition.

The S.C. State Fiddling Championship will take place this Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at

LIBERTY — Former President Woodrow Wilson once said, “the difference between a strong man and a weak one is that the former does not give up after a defeat.”

Wilson’s quote describes resilience. Anyone who follows sports closely knows that resilience is often the deciding factor in who wins and who loses. After taking two straight losses, and trailing most of its game Friday night, the Liberty High School football team showed

EASLEY — The Easley Green Wave rallied for two touchdowns in the waning moments of Friday night’s game to defeat unbeaten J.L. Mann, 21-14.

On a night when the Easley Hall of Fame inducted three new members, the team provided an ending that people will talk about years from now.

Trailing 14-6 with about three minutes to play, Easley faced fourth and 14 from the Mann 38. Quarterback Kalab Sutton hit receiver Will Patton at the 20. He

CENTRAL — After a dominant first half against Hart County on Friday night, the Daniel High School football team showed signs of slowing down in the third as the Bulldogs cut their lead from 28-3 to 31-17.

The Lions responded like they have for the entirety of their school-record winning streak, scoring once more and holding the Bulldogs out the rest of the way as they won their 27th consecutive game, 38-17.

Blue Flame hoping to keep positive momentum after week off

PICKENS — Despite a loss to Southside in their last game on Sept. 2, it’s hard to imagine the Pickens Blue Flame are unhappy with their standing midway through non-conference play.

Coming into the year, there were plenty of questions about the Pickens offense, with the team having to replace both starting quarterback Ryan Ford and star running back Andon Rogers from last season’s squad. However, those questions have seemingly been answered through three weeks of play, with the Blue

CLEMSON — Clemson’s 35-12 win over Furman on Saturday finished with an expected result, but it took an unexpected journey to get there.

Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei played like the heir to Trevor Lawrence he was meant to be, while the Tigers’ defense was burned by screens and failed to live up to its lofty preseason expectations of total dominance.

The Tigers were playing in their second game in a calendar week after a season-opening win against
