Daniel dominates county awards

LIBERTY — Out of the more than 100 athletes that travelled to Liberty High School for the Pickens County Track and Field Championships, six were lauded for their achievements and presented with awards following the completion of the meet.

Lions sweep county track meet

LIBERTY — With a little over a month to go until state qualifiers, Pickens County’s four public high schools took to the track at Liberty High School on April 1 for the Pickens County Track and Field Championships.

On a day that saw eight county championship records broken, Daniel High School reigned supreme, taking first in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.

Boasting a meet-high nine county champions, the Daniel girls fit the billing of a state championship contender after a runner-up finish in Class 3A last season.

Azalea Festival is April 25 and 26

Festival committee to donate to Pickens High Backpack Program

PICKENS — The Pickens Azalea Festival gives back to the Pickens community each year once the festival is over. The Pickens Azalea Committee typically chooses a local organization to support with a monetary donation. This year, the group chose to provide assistance to the Pickens High School Backpack Program.

• LOWV set to meet April 15 in Clemson

“How to Run a Troll Farm: The Evolution of Disinformation,” a program of the League of Women Voters Oconee and Pickens Counties, is set to be held at 4 p.m. April 15 at the United Methodist Church at 300 Frontage Road in Clemson.
The presenters will be Darren Linvill and Patrick Warren, co-directors of the Clemson University Watt Family Innovation Center Media Forensics Hub. They will describe the changing nature of how foreign states attempt to influence Western politics. Discussion will include specific tactics countries like Russia and China use to manipulate social discourse, using real-world examples. This program is open to the public.

• Dacusville Lions to host monthly bingo

The Dacusville Lions Club will be hosting Bingo night on the second Thursday of each month at the Lions Building in Dacusville, located at 1384 Thomas Mill Road.
