SDPC: Daniel students charged in altercation at FCA football camp

CLINTON — Several Daniel High School students have been charged after “a very serious” incident earlier this month at a school-sponsored football camp resulted in the injury of another student.

The incident occurred July 7 during a retreat at Presbyterian College in Laurens County, where D.W. Daniel High School football players were participating in a summer camp organized in conjunction with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Officials confirmed that the altercation, which involved multiple student-athletes, was recorded on video and widely circulated on social media.

Missing man found dead

LIBERTY — A missing man was found dead in Liberty last week.

Deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office were searching for David Jeremiah Smith, 60, who was last seen the morning of Tuesday, July 22, on Christopher Lane in Liberty.

SCDOT head gives update on bridge collapse, closures

COUNTY — The head of the South Carolina Department of Transportation says steps are being taken “to restore mobility to western Pickens County” following the partial collapse of one area bridge and the closure of another.

Vehicles exceeding the weight limit of one bridge led to the damage that caused its collapse last week, according to SCDOT.

Law enforcement alerted SCDOT to severe damage to a bridge on Crowe Creek Road (S.C. Highway 133) on Monday, July 22.
