Veterans who receive community care for medical treatment have been required in the past to seek and receive new referrals every 90 to 180 days. Just getting that referral or authorization can cause delays in treatment. Now, with changes at the VA, those referrals won’t be as frequent.

ERIC HOOPER
CLINTON – Mr. Eric Stanley Hooper, 62, on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, received the call to go join the Lord in his room, in the house that Jesus the great carpenter, had finished and prepared for him.
Eric was born in Pickens, on Aug. 31, 1962, to the late Wayne Hooper and Margaret Brittle. Eric enjoyed playing with his spinning tops, receiving arm and back rubs from everyone, looking at Southern Living Magazines, and being the shredder person at the Whitten Center in Clinton.

Grand reopening
The Walmart Supercenter Pickens celebrated its official grand reopening on Friday. The event showcased the store’s recent renovations and updates, all designed to enhance the shopping experience and strengthen ties with the local community. Store Manager Tonya Bovain, representing Store #3191, welcomed guests and highlighted the exciting changes. One standout feature is a vibrant mural celebrating the spirit of Pickens. As part of the reopening festivities, Walmart also made generous donations to local organizations in support of the community. To top off the event, the Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce honored Walmart as Business of the Month.

• Firelocks exhibits coming to museum
The Pickens County Museum of Arts and History will host “Firelocks of the American Revolution” from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 6.
The exhibition will open with a reception. There will be free food and drinks. All are invited to meet collector Ken Nabors and see many reenactors in American Revolution period dress.

All persons having claims against the following estates MUST file their claims on Form #371ES with the Probate Court of PICKENS COUNTY, the address of which is 222 MCDANIEL AVE., B-16 PICKENS, SC 29671, within eight (8) months after the date of the first publication of this Notice to Creditors or within one (1) year from date of death, whichever is earlier (SCPC 62-3-801, et seq.), or such persons shall be forever barred as to their claims.
