Don’t touch the thermostat
By the time you read this, many of us in cold-weather areas will be listening for (and dreading) the click sound that heralds the arrival of warm air through the furnace vents. The dread comes in when we mentally calculate just how much it’s costing us to stay warm.

Like on bird’s feet

EASLEY — Sylvia Lande, 85, of Easley, passed away on Oct. 1, 2025.
She was born in 1940, to Libby Shomer in Hackensack, N.J. Sylvia earned her master’s degree in social work from Tulane University in Louisiana and became a licensed clinical social worker, a role she deeply enjoyed as it allowed her to help people in meaningful ways. Upcountry Quilters Guild Quilt show is Oct. 10, 11

PICKENS — Quilters Neighborhood, the 2025 biennial judged quilt show sponsored by the Upcountry Quilters Guild will be held on October 10 and 11 at The Market at the Mill, 225 Pumpkintown Highway in Pickens.
Quilt Show hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Admission is $5 and children under 12 are admitted free. Ample free parking is available.

On October 1, the Greater Pickens Chamber proudly recognized Pickens Savings and Loan as the October Business of the Month. A dedicated and valued Chamber member, this outstanding business has made meaningful contributions to the community and beyond. Pickens Savings and Loan has been trusted in the community since 1920. • Dacusville Lions to host monthly bingo
The Dacusville Lions Club will be hosting Bingo night on the second Thursday of each month at the Lions Building in Dacusville, located at 1384 Thomas Mill Road. The next Bingo session will be Thursday, Oct. 9.There are set to be 10 games beginning at 7 p.m., and proceeds will go toward funding community events and other community needs.
