Can we explain what we believe?

The foundation of the Christian faith, along with the hope of eternal salvation in the next life, is based on the torturous death and glorified resurrection of the only perfect individual we know as Jesus Christ. When we trust that His sacrificial blood is the only payment for our forgiveness and our hope for redemption, we become

Thank God we were poor

Mark 14: 7 “Jesus saith, For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.”

Children in the 1950’s mostly grew up in limited environments. That’s a politically correct way of saying we were “dirt poor.” As a child I did not realize how hard the struggle was for my dad to put food on the table for our family.

There was no such thing as politically correct then because very few, if any, had time to consider being offended by someone’s opinions, beliefs or words. The men worked and mothers stayed home and cared for the house and children. There were no social programs to finance

Getting through the shut down

At this writing, several weeks into the government shutdown, the VA has not been immune to the effects of it. We don’t know how long it will go on, but the VA is doing all it can for veterans. While you won’t be able to access all of their services as long as the shutdown continues, you’re not being left in the lurch.

You’ll still get your education, housing and

What to find at the food bank

I recently learned a few things about my local food bank that I didn’t know. Maybe your food bank has these services as well.

The local food bank has a mobile pantry that goes to the senior housing building once a month for seniors who can’t get out to the regular weekly location. While they don’t carry a large variety on the van, they do have some of most everything, including canned and boxed foods, coffee and tea, some

ANTONETTE RENE MEYER

PICKENS — Antonette Rene Meyer, 56, of Pickens, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 25, 2025, following her two-month fight against a late cancer diagnosis. We take comfort knowing she is now pain free and find peace knowing there are no goodbyes, only “we’ll see you later.”

She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Meyer, and sister, Barbara Clardy, both of whom we know she is elated to be with again.

She is survived by her beloved children, Brittany Arms of Woodruff, Nicholas Pancoast of Pickens and Micheala Chavis of Greenville; her mother, Jane Meyer, and brother, Tony Meyer, both of Pickens; and her cherished grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure, Camden Arms, Levi Pancoast, Kylee Arms, Ethan Mumma, Lexi Chavis, Blair Arms, Lucas Arms, Zoey Chavis, Kara Chavis and Bethany Pancoast. Her greatest joy in life came from her family — especially her grandchildren, who were truly the light of her world.

Antonette had a big, beautiful heart and an even bigger love for the Lord. Her warmth and love will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know her.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at River Hills Baptist Church, 5762 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369.
