PICKENS — With both teams looking to pick up their first region wins of the season, the Pickens High School softball team hosted Daniel on Wednesday night.

The Lions were able to take a commanding 7-0 lead in the opening inning and never looked back as they picked up a 13-2 win over the Blue Flame.

“We’ve been struggling and we haven’t been able to get all three phases of the game to happen at the same time,” Daniel head coach Tony Qualkinbush said. “Tonight, we did and we set the tone. Overall, this is what we’re capable of. They just have to start

AWL Pro Wrestling returns to the Market at the Mill this Saturday

PICKENS — The stars of the American Wrestling League (AWL) are set to return to Pickens this Saturday for one of the organization’s featured events, “Spring Break 2026.” The AWL has quickly adopted Pickens — and the Market at the Mill — as one of its premier stops, bringing some of the most exciting independent professional wrestling action in the region.

The night’s card opens with a clash between “The Frat Daddy” Bryce Cannon and the always‑tough Jessie Alexander Carter, a matchup expected to deliver plenty of hard‑hitting intensity. High‑flying action follows as Chris Young squares off with Alexander Moss, promising fast‑paced aerial offense.

The enduring hope of the empty tomb

April is the month of new beginnings when the grass turns green, trees begin to sprout their leaves, and flowers emerge from the ground to express their beauty. This is also the time when Christians celebrate the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

God’s infinite love for us is the foundation of the Christian faith, for without Jesus being raised to conquer death, hell, and the grave, there would be no sacrifice sufficient to forgive us from our sins. You see, His perfect blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat of

Don’t mess with our lakes

Dear Editor,

Pickens County is considering a proposed ordinance establishing a Lake Keowee and Lake Jocassee overlay district to protect water quality, provide a safe environment for wildlife, conserve natural resources and safeguard our drinking water by preventing excessive development within 1,500 feet of the shoreline. This applies to any commercial or industrial construction within the buffer.

Do you enjoy visiting the lakes? Swimming, fishing or boating on these lakes? Most importantly, do you believe it is important to protect the source of our drinking water? If so, you need to attend the meeting on April 2 — details below — to let officials know

Don’t fall for scam emails

I received an email from a company that I use for computer repair and malware protection. No surprise there; they’ve sent me annual emails over the years when it was time to renew the service. I opened the email and it was an invoice indicating they would be charging my credit card several hundred dollars today!

But I took a closer look. The area code of the phone number at the bottom of the invoice was not for the state where the real company is located. The address at the bottom of the invoice was for yet another state. The

Is there no way to uncover fraud?

How is it a scammer can impersonate a veteran for over 30 years and not get caught?

Not only did this thief collect Social Security under the veteran’s name, but he got medical care from the VA. And he didn’t exactly behave during all those years — he was convicted of multiple serious crimes along the way.

When he was finally nabbed, he was living in VA-provided homeless/transitional housing and getting

How to dye eggs like a professional

Many families will soon be partaking in a springtime tradition that has spanned generations: coloring Easter eggs.

While eggs once symbolized fertility and rebirth in Pagan celebrations, they have since come to be associated with Christianity. History.com says eggs historically were not allowed to be eaten during the 40 days of Lent. Subsequently, they were painted and decorated to mark the end of penance and enjoyed as a treat on Easter Sunday. Britannica also notes that the
