Hop on these tips for a great Easter egg hunt

Egg hunts are a traditional component of many people’s Easter celebrations. Children often delight in searching for eggs around the house or in the backyard. Egg hunts are so popular that they have become a component of many town-sponsored festivities.

There are many ways to make Easter egg hunts more enjoyable and productive for participants of all ages. Try these “eggcellent” ideas.

  • Designate a clear hunting area. Young children can grow frustrated searching for eggs in large areas. Set parameters for the search area that are manageable depending on the ages of the children participating. New Pickens book fuels scholarships

PICKENS — Local author and historian Charles Hood has announced the release of his newest book, a detailed look at the people, places, and events that shaped the community of Pickens. In keeping with his longstanding commitment to preserving local heritage and supporting young musicians, 100 percent of book proceeds will benefit the Ryan Hood Memorial Scholarship Fund, offered through the Young Appalachian Musicians program administered by Preserving Our Southern Appalachian Music, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Baropa Farmhouse Market and Treasures recently held its formal ribbon cutting. The new store offers something for everyone, featuring a wide variety of gluten‑free and dairy‑free products, baking essentials, children’s clothing, novelties, jellies, jams and more. Baropa is located at 120 Ann Street in Pickens and is open Tuesday–Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. Pictured are Greater Pickens Chamber director Bryan Owens, City Councilman Johnathan Baker, Wil Watkins from the Sherri Biggs campaign, Ambassador Jeremy Price, Chamber President Dave Michel, store owners Barbra Grewe and Pam Morton, chamber board member Meechi Green, along with other friends and family.

Scout Food Drive

Scout Troop 51 and Cub Scout Pack 51 recently held the 6th Annual Pickens Community Food Drive which was a huge success.  The scouts collected 1,100 items for the Gleaning House Food Pantry from numerous community organizations, churches and groups. Picture here are the Scouts and Cub Scouts who collected the items at the drop site on March 7. Following the collection, the Scouts volunteered to sort them at the Gleaning House. The winner of the “coveted” Golden Can Award was the newly formed Pickens Methodist Church which was presented with the award being  at a recent Scout Meeting.

• PHS Class of 1976 plan 50th Reunion

The Pickens High School Class of 1976 will host its 50th class reunion from noon-5 p.m. May 9 at the Hagood Mill Pavilion. The Hagood Mill Pavilion is located at 129 Hagood Mill Road in Pickens. arbecue, macaroni and cheese, and slaw will be provided. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Tea and water will also be provided. The Traveling Tap, a local beer truck, will be on hand selling beer and wine. A professional photographer will also be available to take a commemorative PHS 50th anniversary class photo for only $20. The event will be $40 per person. April 1.
