GEORGE BONEY

PICKENS — Mr. George Boney, 95, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at his home.

George was born in Cades on Dec. 6, 1926, to the late George and Lucy Bracy Boney. He went to school in Sumter and graduated from Edmunds High School in June 1944.

George served in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force. He worked as a watchmaker at Pace Jewelers in Pickens from 1954 until he retired. George was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the men’s chorus. He also served on the Pickens City Council from 1983-2003.

Mr. Boney is survived by his loving wife, Patricia M. Boney; one daughter, Cynthia D. Boney of Pickens; two sons, George C. Boney (Ellen) of Columbia and Robert M. Boney (Sheila) of Jeffersonville, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Hanna Montgomery, George Boney and Emerson Smith.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by five siblings, William Boney, Robert Boney, Edward Boney, Emily Lee and Alice Amentler.

Funeral services were conducted on Nov. 19 at Pickens Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pickens Presbyterian Church or the Pickens Senior Center.

ROBERT ALTON GIBSON

SALUDA — Robert Alton Gibson, 86, died on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at his home.

Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Harvey Rufus Gibson and Ruby Lee Sanders Gibson.

Mr. Gibson served in the South Carolina National Guard, Battery “B” 2D AW BN (SP) 263D ARTY in Easley. He retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol and was a former employee of Electrolux. His community involvement included membership in various organizations, including the Keowee Masonic Lodge #79, Hejaz Shriners, former constables and an active member of Fraternal Order of Police.

He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church of Saluda and a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens.

Surviving are three daughters, Cynthia Peek (John) of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Lee Bunnells of Saluda and Angela Rodgers (Mike) of Ward; two sisters, Daisy Massey of West Columbia and Sandra Blount of Panama City Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle Gibson and Carl Gibson; and a son in-law, Kenneth Bunnells.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Bethany United Methodist Church, with Rev. Valerie Mireb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

BENJAMIN PAUL FLAUGHER

PICKENS — Benjamin Paul Flaugher, 52, passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at his home.

Born on Feb. 2, 1970, in Massillon, Ohio, Benjamin was the son of Philip Emra Flaugher Sr. and Margaret Agnes Renner Flaugher.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Flaugher is survived by his four sisters, Lisa Greene (Jeff) of Pickens, Heidi Flaugher of Greenville, Holly Daniel (Mel) of Greenville and April McCall (Mac) of Pickens; a brother, Philip Flaugher Jr. (Kathy) of Pickens; an aunt, Rose Mary Renner of Erie, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Benjamin was predeceased by his nephews, Alex Flaugher and Nathan Flaugher.

Visitation and funeral services were held on Nov. 21 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. A private burial followed the service in the Flaugher Family Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Benjamin’s honor may be made to the Camp Spearhead, 4232 Highway 11, Marietta, SC 29661.

WADE NORTON

 

LIBERTY — Samuel Wade Norton, 76, of Lakeview Drive, died on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born in Easley, he was the husband of Faye Durham Norton for 53 years and a son of the late Herman and Erla Hughes Norton.

Wade worked many years for Winn-Dixie and was a long-time member of East Side Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors, going hunting and fishing. He served as a volunteer with the Liberty Fire Department and was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Norton was a United States Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Justin Norton (Ashli) of Liberty; a brother, Austin Norton of Pickens; three sisters, Faye Shelton (Darvis), Hazel Allamon Holden and Allene Durham Crenshaw, all of Pickens; a sister-in-law, Donna Smith (Quinn) of Easley; a brother-in-law, Cecil Durham (Norma) of Pickens; and five grandchildren, Hailey Norton, Aubrey Norton, Tucker Norton, Kalli Nelson and Trace Nelson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hershel Norton.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Norton were held on Nov. 21 at East Side Baptist Church. Private burial was at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

CHARLES EDWARD HOLLAND

LIBERTY — Mr. Charles Edward “Charlie” Holland, 66, husband of Karen Kornfeld Holland, passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022.

Born in East Meadow, N.Y., a son of the late Byron Carl Holland and the late Mary Theresa Smith Holland, Mr. Holland was a graduate of Huntington High School and a retired truck driver. He was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 41 years, are daughters, Tanya Brenner (Jeffrey) of Huntington Station, N.Y., and Cheyanne Holland of Piedmont; a son, Charles Edward Holland Jr. of Liberty; a daughter, Arianna Holland of Huntington Station, N.Y.; numerous brothers and sisters; and seven grandchildren, Cassidy Holland, Brayden Holland, Olivia Stewart, J.J. Jones, Isabella Patrick, Jamie Brenner and Landon Brenner.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Holland was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer Holland.

KAY TROXELL

LIBERTY — Kay Louise Troxell, 61, of Liberty, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Havre De Grace, Md., she was a daughter of the late Anylee “Sonny” Walls Sr. and Shirley McGonigal Deppish.

She loved to spend time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, Greg Troxell of the home; children, Shannon Walls (Troy Woomer) of Liberty and Justin Troxell and Joshua Troxell, both of Chesnee; a brother, Jimmi Walls of Liberty; a sister, Debi Adams (Bobby) of Rising Sun, Md.; and five grandchildren, Jordan Deslongchamps (Hanan Balawi), Michael Gadoury, Devan King, Nikki Troxell and Brooklyn Gadoury.

FAYE E. WEATHERS

EASLEY — Faye E. Weathers, 84, passed away on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, at her home.

A native of Buncombe County, N.C., Faye was born on Aug. 12, 1938, the daughter of the late Cecil Galveston Haynes and Margaret Louise Davis Haynes.

Survivors include her brother, Forrest Haynes of Samson, Ala.; and her niece, Sherry Smoot of Bluemont, Va.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Weathers was predeceased by her son, Kevin McDaniel.

LIZ WILLIMON

EASLEY — Floye Elizabeth Mann Willimon, 79, died on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Mann and Lois Howard Drexel.

She was the owner/operator for many years with her husband of Auto Interiors in Greenville. During her free time, she enjoyed fishing and traveling to the mountains, and she loved to eat out.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Homer M. Willimon Jr. of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Willimon of Greenville; two grandchildren, Chelsea Hicks (K.C.) and Austin Hicks;  and three great-grandchildren, Anslee, Bryson and Carson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Tumblin and Jean Fuquay; and two brothers, Wallace and Gordon Mann.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. Willimon will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Liberty Memorial Gardens. No visitation is planned.

The family members will be at their respective homes.

YNTHIA H. MARCUS

CENTRAL — Cynthia H. Marcus, 66, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at her home.

Born on Jan. 6, 1956, Cynthia was the daughter of the late Raymond Carl Hardy and Doris Virginia Childress. Ms. Marcus attended Jones Avenue Baptist Church in Easley. She was employed for several years at Walmart. She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed collecting pictures of them all.

Survivors include her sisters, Sandra Moore of Easley, Patty Goss of Central and Grace McAlister of Central, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Marcus was predeceased by two sisters, Ann Barrett and Donna Lane.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 18 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

Flowers will be accepted.

HENRY LEWIS SEAY

EASLEY — Henry Lewis Seay, 70, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at his home.

A native of Pickens County, Lewis was born on July 11, 1952, the son of the late James Seay and Bertha Seay. During his life, Mr. Seay was active with the Shriners. He enjoyed golf, yardwork and riding motorcycles and loved Clemson football.

Survivors include his sister, Dot Trotter; nieces, Angie Costner (Roy) and Karen Enderle (Chris); as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Seay was predeceased by a nephew, Art Trotter.

A celebration of life was held on Nov. 22 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

JAMES C. EVATT

CHESTER — James Clayton Evatt, 75, formerly of Liberty, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at the home of his daughter.

Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late Willie T. and Allene Brooks Evatt.

He retired from Davis Electrical, where he worked as an electrician for many years and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sheryl Wade Evatt of the home; a daughter, Anne Faulkenberry and her husband, Rev. Lewis Faulkenberry, of Chester; two grandchildren, Kaleb Anthony Faulkenberry (Raegan) and Samuel Isaac Faulkenberry; a brother, Donnie Evatt of Easley; and a sister, Nancy Anderson of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Evatt.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Evatt were conducted on Nov. 20 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Private burial was at Flat Rock Baptist Church cemetery.
