ARCHIE ODELL RANEW
LIBERTY — Archie Odell Ranew, 74, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Pickens due to complications from an accident that occurred in February 2026. He was comfortable and cared for by his family and friends.
Born on May 3, 1951, in Aiken, Archie was the son of Lester Odell Ranew and Maude “Margie” Bryant Ranew. Archie graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson, class of 1969. Archie volunteered his service in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Michigan, he met his wife, Cathy Hill Ranew. They were married in 1973 and spent 43 years together. They had four children together, Melanie, Amy, Rose and Lester. Cathy was the best blessing he found in life — she kept things running in the family and was such a fun person! Archie retired from Savannah River Site as a maintenance mechanic. However, he would have rather been a professional pool shark with Red Man tobacco in his back pocket. He also enjoyed baseball and fishing.
Most importantly, in August 2022 Archie made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. On Aug. 2, 2022, he was baptized in Clarks Hill Lake by his son-in-law, John Hicks, with witnesses present. (Archie would have never called Clarks Hill Strom Thurmond Lake — he was old school).
Archie is survived by his daughters, Melanie Moyer (Robert) of Jackson, Amy Robinson (Rodney) of Liberty and Rose Hicks (John) of Jackson; grandchildren, Sara and Abbi Moyer Jackson; sisters, Cindy Washburn of Central and Rachel Duncan of Pickens; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Hill Ranew; his parents, Lester Odell Ranew and Margie Bryant Ranew; and his son, Lester Gary Ranew.
A memorial service will be held in Jackson at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a ministry of your choice or to The Outdoor Dream Foundation, P.O. Box 802, Anderson, SC 29622, (864) 226-8775 and recall a fond memory of Archie.
The family would like to thank Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills in Seneca for all of their support and prayers. Special recognition to our friend Barbara Robinson of Pickens, for making Archie laugh and caring for him with love.
